Cafe 1771

I was running late so I was rushing in to Cafe 1771. However, when I saw the interiors of the place, I literally had to stop myself and capture the image in front of me. It was so picturesque and charming.

Isn't it quaint? After I had my fill of photos, I headed to the second floor and ordered my drink.

This is the Cafe Grand Marnier (Php270) and before you can actually enjoy it, the server makes a grand presentation for it needs to be on fire before it can be drank. It is freshly brewed coffee with grand marnier and cream. It makes a great combination of orange and coffee flavor.

I personally did not like it because I found the liquor too strong. However, I seem to be the odd one out since the others finished it in one sitting.

Dinner was finally served after a few minutes and I was in for a pleasant surprise because Cafe 1771 sure knows how to fill one's tummy. Amongst the food prepared was this spaghetti with sardines and fried capers. For only Php380, you can feast on spaghetti tossed in sardines, fried with garlic, and topped with capers and toasted breadcrumbs. It was oh so good!

When I initially saw this, I wasn't too happy. I was still reeling from The Burger Project and Zarks so I took only one quarter of this burger. BIG MISTAKE! I should have taken the entire burger because it was just so freakin' good. No, scratch that. It was AWESOME!

The Winebar Burger was served with gruyere cheese and made of 200g certified Angus beef patty nestled inside a homemade brioche bun. They serve it with lettuce, roasted Baguio tomato, grilled onions, a homemade dill pickle, french fries, and a side of bone marrow.

SINFULLY GOOD!

Next was the organic chicken and we all know how much I love chickens. This one gladly did not fail and for only Php560, you get to eat healthy fried chicken. Sounds like an oxymoron right? Still, worth a try!

The orange pork spareribs (Php450) was stewed in long simmered sauce made of soy sauce, orange juice, garlic, and ginger. You'd definitely taste the orange and soy but none of the garlic and ginger which was fine by me. Plus factor: pork was super soft it literally melts in your mouth.

And now, for the desserts. I never expected the desserts to be THAT good. It was actually too good. It was exquisite.

The coffee pie was the house best seller. One bite and you'd understand why. Made of coffee filling on chocolate cashew crust with cream topping and toffee sauce, this was definitely Chateau 1771's signature dessert. It was so creamy but not overpowering. Price: Php220.

The Amandelle costs Php300. Made of milk chocolate mousse in between layers of orange creme brulee and caramelized apricot and almond dacquoise, this one was energizing yet relaxing. The orange eneregizes you but the chocolate gives you that calm feeling. Crazy combination but it actually works.

At Php250, the Gianduja Truffle Mousse Cake was the most tempting of all. Layers of gianduja truffle mousse using a white and dark Valrhona chocolate with homemade marshmallow and brownie fudge, it simply melts in your mouth. You won't even care that it will stay on your hips. You just want more, more, more!

The chocolate excess (Php295) was the most memorable of all though because it was made of chocolate cake with a hint of orange marmalade. It is Valrhona chocolate ganache and chocolate glaze. I know. It's chocolate overload but its the good kind of overloading!

Aside from the sumptuous food and the great ambience, what made last night truly memorable was the FANTASTIC SERVICE! It is now so rare to find a restaurant that has food, ambience, and service in one complete package. I'm really glad that Cafe 1771 delivers all 3 and they do it with style and with grace.

BURP! Kudos Cafe 1771.

* I was invited to review the food. I did not pay for my meal. However, the free meal did not in any way sway my opinion and everything you read here is MY PERSONAL OPINION.
