Nothing beats whipping up something sweet from the heart. Make your love language food. Make this utterly #Madalicious treat, Cerveza Negra Chocolate Balls, made with Magnolia Devil’s Food Cake Mix combined with Cerveza Negra. It will pleasantly surprise your taste buds too.

Baking/Cooking Time: 25 min

Main Ingredient:

Eggs

Flour

CERVEZA NEGRA CHOCOLATE BALLS

Ingredients & Preparation HH Measurement Measure

1 (550 g) pack MAGNOLIA DEVIL’S FOOD CAKE MIX

3 (50 g each) pc MAGNOLIA BROWN EGGS

1 (330 mL) bottle CERVEZA NEGRA

1 (120 mL) cup coconut oil

COATING & DÉCOR

1/2 kg dark chocolate, chopped

100 grams pistachio nuts, chopped

1 (120 g) cup cocoa powder

1 (80 g) cup desiccated coconut

100 grams white chocolate, melted (optional)

Procedure:

1. Preheat oven to 176.7°C (350 F). Meanwhile, line and grease one (1) 12x16 inch square pan

with baking/wax paper. Set aside.

2. In a bowl, combine cake mix, eggs, cerveza negra and oil. Mix until smooth in consistency.

Pour into prepared pan.

3. Bake for 25 minutes. Let cool and then crumble cake and form into 1-inch balls.

4. Prepare dark chocolate by melting it for 10-15 seconds in a microwave oven over a high

setting.

5. Dip each ball in melted dark chocolate and then roll each ball in pistachio nuts, cocoa

powder or desiccated coconut. Drizzle with some melted white chocolate placed in a piping

bag, if desired.

Makes 40 pieces.

ABS-CBN partners with Viu to bring Philippine adaptation of Flower of Evil across 16 markets

ABS-CBN and Viu,  PCCW’s leading pan-regional OTT video streaming service, announced today the expansion of their partnership to adapt the hit South Korean thriller drama Flower of  Evil in 16 markets across Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa. This much-anticipated series is the first Viu Original Adaptation from the Philippines which stars  Lovi Poe and Piolo Pascual. It will stream simultaneously on Viu 48 hours before its domestic television broadcast. 

ABS-CBN Entertainment’s Chief Operating Officer for Broadcast, Cory Vidanes, and  Viu Philippines’ Country Manager, Arianne Kader-Cu, shared their excitement for the  series, which will be Lovi’s first Kapamilya teleserye since joining ABS-CBN and  Piolo’s first drama series after four years.

Over 2,000 stores of the Jollibee Group join Earth Hour 2022

Over 2,000 stores nationwide from the different brands of the Jollibee Group participated in this year’s Earth Hour, the world’s largest movement that promotes carbon footprint reduction to stop climate change. 

Participating stores of Jollibee, Mang Inasal, Red Ribbon, and Greenwich turned off the lights in their stores and signages for an hour. Billboards and other out-of-home ads of Jollibee Group brands were also switched off for an hour during this period.

“Participating annually in the Earth Hour is part of our efforts in the Jollibee Group to demonstrate the commitment to helping protect the planet as an organization. Efforts like Earth Hour are important in raising more awareness among our people, our customers, and the public on the realities of climate change and the need for individual and collective action to protect the environment,” said Pepot Miñana, Chief Sustainability and Public Affairs Officer of the Jollibee Group. 

First started by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007, Earth Hour has grown into one of the world’s largest grassroots movements for the environment today. Held every year, on the last Saturday of March, the movement engages around 190 countries and territories, all acting in ensuring a sustainable future for the planet and its people.  

Federal Land helps drive socio-economic activity in Marikina, Manila, and Manila Bay Area with new properties

Real estate company Federal Land, Inc. is on track with its 2022 targets with new properties that are seen to help drive socio-economic activity in Marikina, Manila, and the Manila Bay Area in Pasay City. 

“We are optimistic that the sector will see a significant rebound this year. This is the reason we remain aggressive in introducing new properties in key areas in the metro. As more people resume their previous routines, we shall provide them with living options that will fit their needs and respond to their demand for a holistic, sustainable lifestyle,” Federal Land, Inc. sales group head Margarita Saenz-Resurreccion said.  

This position supports the findings of the recently released Colliers Property Market Report, which listed “improvement in consumer and business confidence” as among the key market enablers for the sector.    


The report, released on February 9, mentioned the overall Metro Manila vacancy rate is expected to go down to 16.2% by the end of 2022, from 17.9% in 2021. “This points out to a healthy supply pipeline,” it said. 

Colliers also see a gradual recovery in rents and prices and expect an increase of 1.7% and 1.5%, respectively, as demand grows. It also cited data from the BSP’s latest Residential Real Estate Price Index (RREPI) report showing nationwide home prices increased by 6.3% YOY in Q3 2021 due to stronger consumer demand for residential property.

The group also encouraged residential developers to “continue lining up projects, both condominium and house & lots, in line with the anticipated recovery of the economy and as more professionals return to traditional offices located in central business districts.”

New developments

Federal Land is set to launch new residential towers in Marikina with Siena Towers, Manila with Quantum Residences, and in the Manila Bay Area with Mi Casa.

Ajinomoto Launches Sustansarap, Sustansaya! Online Nutrition Classes

Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) recently launched Sustansarap, Sustansaya!, a series of online nutrition classes and cooking demonstrations, through a Facebook Live on Cookmunity by Ajinomoto page. The project aims to help Filipinos improve their nutrition knowledge and cooking skills with the help of food experts. It is set to run on a quarterly basis on the brand’s official Facebook page.

LRMC adds more LRT-1 merchants Accepting Beep™ Payments Load

LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation continues to enhance its services for a convenient commuting experience as it formally rolls out its Tap2Pay campaign with more LRT-1 merchants as new channels for beep™ loading and payments services.

Forming part of LRMC’s digitization efforts, this initiative allows for more uses of beep™ for passengers as they can now use it to buy goods at more merchant kiosks at different LRT-1 stations such as Baclaran, EDSA, Gil Puyat, Carriedo, D. Jose, and Balintawak. Passengers may also top up their beep™ cards with any load denomination without a convenience fee versus other beep™ loading partners.

“After the successful roll-out in December 2021 with Master Siomai as our pilot merchant, we were able to engage more partners who saw the real benefit and operational efficiency of incorporating the beep™ device in their operations. Now we are going all out as we officially introduce our Tap2Pay campaign with over 30 LRT-1 kiosks participating. Aside from using beep™ to pay for goods, passengers also have more channels to reload cards in addition to existing ticket vending machines, loading kiosks, and teller booths. What we’re offering are greater convenience and choices for passengers with more uses for their beep™ this time,” LRMC Corporate Communications and Customer Relations Head Jacqueline S. Gorospe said.

Under this project, LRT-1 merchants are provided with a portable Standalone Payment and Loading Device allowing them to process the loading of beep™ cards and payment transactions without the need for any integration with a Point of Sale (POS) or any external processing system.

Some of the LRT-1 merchants with this beep™ facility include Master Siomai, Mister Donut, Yumpanada, Waffle Haus, Turks, Eng Bee Tin, Siomai House, and The Generics Pharmacy, Just Squeezed, Potato Corner, and Waffle Time. Passengers can certainly choose from a variety of products that include siomai, empanada, doughnut, waffle, shawarma, siopao, hopia, pastry, fried noodles, fries, Korean food, refreshers, and medicines which can be purchased with their beep™ card.

K-Pop icon KANGDANIEL marks an explosive return to music-making with the release of his new full-length album, The Story. Featuring 10 songs co-written by the Korean pop superstar himself, the highly anticipated record chronicles stories from his own perspectives and experiences. 

The lead track “Upside Town” is a midtempo tune written by KANGDANIEL, Chancellor, Knave, and composed by Sean Kennedy and MZMC. The catchy new single brims with a clear Rhodes piano and a solid guitar foundation with mixed drums, whistles, and clapping sounds.

The song’s official release is accompanied by a vibrant music video that takes place in various locations, including a neon-lit barbershop, a rooftop car park, and a laundromat. Celebrated American Chef Nancy Silverton’s Osteria Mozza is bringing its unique brand of ingredient-specific, Cal-Italian cuisine to Singapore, showcasing simple cooking that allows impeccably sourced seasonal produce to shine.

The new 120-seat restaurant at Hilton Singapore Orchard features classics from the original one-Michelin-starred outpost in Los Angeles as well as a number of new dishes crafted exclusively for Singapore.

Silverton believes in cooking with only the best ingredients, using them across the menu in a number of different styles. With her decades of experience as a baker who popularised sourdough and sparked the artisan bread movement across the U.S since the nineties, nearly all of Osteria Mozza’s dishes are served atop, complemented by, or made more complete by bread. 

The standouts of Osteria Mozza are many – its mozzarella bar and housemade fresh pasta; two wood-burning ovens for Silverton’s show-stopping pizzas, meats, fish, and fresh vegetables; and gelato-centric dessert menu; all supported by a stellar beverage program and attentive warm service. 

MOZZARELLA BAR

At the heart of Osteria Mozza is the signature mozzarella bar, a place to start the meal with a selection of five different mozzarellas, burrata, and fresh cheeses, and an impressive array of imported Italian cured meats (speck, coppa, salami sardo, mortadella, and prosciutto di Parma). Silverton and her team source and curate simple Italian ingredients of exceptional quality to create the remarkable antipasti and salads which have cemented Osteria Mozza’s reputation. For example, the restaurant goes to great lengths to source Bianca Modenese – 36-month ‘White Cow’ Parmigiano Reggiano, aged triple the time required for normal Parmiggiano Reggiano. 

Antipasti selections include the signature Affettati Misti. What is different about the dish for the Singapore outpost is the inclusion of butcher’s pate and trotter fritti, as a nod to the popularity of trotter meat locally. Other highlights not to be missed from the mozzarella bar include Nancy’s Favorite Trio of Mozzarella di Bufala, Cantabrian anchovies, semi-dried  tomato, and cruschi peppers with fett’unta; Smoked Burrata & Peas; and Nancy’s Caesar.

HANDMADE PASTAS & WOOD-FIRED COOKING

Almost all of the 10 pastas on the menu at Osteria Mozza are handmade in-house daily. A unique new pasta on the menu and one created especially for Singapore is the Cencioni with Dungeness crab and saffron, inspired by Silverton experiencing the wide array of seafood in Singapore. Every part of the crab is used to create the dish from claws to meat and belly, used either as filling for the pasta or to create stock for pasta-making. 

The Josper Oven is the precision workhorse of the kitchen, turning out perfectly cooked Grilled Calamari and Whole Branzino alla piastra. Farmers’ market quality vegetables are also roasted in the Josper to coax out their flavor and natural sweetness, like seasonal selections of Friarelli Peppers and Roasted Carrots.

A selection of secondi for individual enjoyment or sharing includes the Cacciucco, a traditional fish stew from Tuscany brimming with locally sourced grouper and calamari, venus clams, red prawns, mussels, and red pepper crostone. The dish is another of Silverton’s love notes to Singapore, recognizing the city’s fondness for seafood. Other highlights include whole Grilled Corn-Fed Baby Chicken; and juicy Pork Chop Milanese. 

Pizza at Osteria Mozza is the art of a master bread baker. After extensive testing and enhancement, the pizzas are a reflection of Silverton’s distinctive style and taste. A selection of nine pizzas are cooked in the restaurant’s custom Wood Stone wood-burning pizza oven and will be served exclusively at lunch. Silverton has chosen to cook with California almond wood for its fruitwood flavor, high heat, low smoke, and balanced sweetness. As a result, Osteria Mozza’s pizzas boast a fine crisp base and ultra-high airy and puffy cornicione, with a deep sourdough flavor. 

GELATO-CENTRIC DESSERTS


Osteria Mozza’s desserts sport a distinctly Italian-meets-American flair. While most of the menu is centred around the joy and art of gelato, where local tropical fruits like pineapple and rambutan feature prominently, Silverton classics like Butterscotch Budino and  Rosemary Olive Oil Cakes are not to be missed.

Silverton has created her own brand of gelato called Nancy’s Fancy, which will be made locally using a high-quality Carpigiani gelato machine. Tableside Hot Fudge Sundae Cartservice includes DIY sundaes with an array of toppings, plus signature creations like the  Tin Roof Sundae and Coconut Sorbetto Pie. 

BEVERAGE PROGRAMME

The beverage list includes an impressive selection of Italian wines, including organic and sustainable wines, as well as classic Italian cocktails like negroni, aperol spritz, and espresso martinis.

Curated by Osteria Mozza partner Joe Bastianich and General Manager Manu Gandotra, the wine list is an exploratory journey of the great Italian wine-producing regions, including Piemonte, Tuscany, and Veneto. Of the 280 labels, 90% of the list is Italian, including house labels of Bastianich and La Mozza wines, while the remaining 10% of the list  highlights California and New World producers. Meanwhile, 70% of the wine list is made up of red grape varietals. Of the 20 wines served by the glass, premium labels such as  Amarone, Barolo, and Brunello di Montalcino are served by Coravin. 

DESIGN

Conceptualized by award-winning global hospitality design firm EDG Design, Osteria Mozza extends the design narrative of Hilton Singapore Orchard as a modern colonial-style residence, inspired by the past rustic stables and tannery buildings found along Orchard Road — an area once abundant with fruit orchards, nutmeg plantations, and pepper farms. 

Much like a Tuscan farmhouse, with its open kitchen and stacks of firewood, Osteria Mozza’s rich, textural design layers gabion stone walls and flooring, end cut wood, natural brick screening, and exposed nuts, bolts, and fixings. Leather features prominently – in supple caramel-colored leather and wood chairs as well as design elements, like horse buckles, bridles, saddles, belts, and tools. The space is encircled by the glass, with both indoor and outdoor plants lending a mossy, natural, slightly overgrown feel.

A communal, convivial vibe is evident throughout the restaurant. The mozzarella bar seats up to 14, and the spacious indoor dining room seats 61. The spacious and lush outdoor terrace that overlooks the bustling Orchard Road is covered to accommodate the Singapore weather and seats 59. Osteria Mozza’s private dining room seats 10. 

LOCAL TEAM

The restaurant is led by a strong and seasoned team with years of experience in the international dining scene: Executive Chef Peter Birks, who previously worked with Silverton at Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza from 2016-18, Nostra Cucina, and most recently Burnt Ends; Pastry Chef Manaal Syed (CUT by Wolfgang Puck); and General Manager Manu Gandotra (Bread Street Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay, Punjab Grill by Jiggs Kalra).

Crimson Boracay Presents Its Second Group of Young Creatives Under the Arts in Youth Program

As part of its ongoing commitment to becoming both a world-class resort as well as a center for the arts and humanities on the island, Crimson Resort and Spa Boracay recently introduced ten young local artists currently being nurtured under its Arts in Youth program.

Under the tutelage of Crimson Boracay’s General Manager Patrick Manthe and Artist in Residence Eric Egualada, these young artists are being encouraged to make the most of their imagination and creativity to make pieces that are both visually striking and thought-provoking.

"Arts in Youth is a fusion of fundamental ideas and approaches towards art," Egualada said of the program when asked about the impetus behind it. "I would say that [my approach for] part two of the program is more technical, conceptual, practical, scientific, and creative"

With regard to the selection of participants, Egualada selected youngsters with advanced skills in drawing and painting. Several participants have also proven themselves with regard to poster-making, portraiture, and simple landscape painting.

A Different Approach

For this batch, Egualada challenged the young artists to step out of their comfort zones by creating works using a realist color scheme under a number of themes, including Flowers in Watercolor.

He also introduced concepts like the separation of positive and negative spaces in visual art, as well as how to break down and compose organic and geometric shapes in colors and figures.

Egualada also took participants on a live painting activity titled Plein Air at the Katungan Itibajai Mangrove glade at the Bungan-Bungan cold spring in Aklan.

Hopes for Expansion

"Apart from the passionate mentorship of our resident artist Eric Egualada, we also provide the students with a unique space to paint, art materials, meals, transportation, and, not least, an opportunity to showcase their amazing artwork as part of an exhibition," Manthe said of the second batch.

Manthe added: "I would like to congratulate the ten Arts in Youth graduates to the successful completion of this module and the outstanding artworks they created through hard work, perseverance, and hours of practice."

He also expressed his gratitude towards the program's donors and supporters, as well as his hope to expand Arts in Youth further to give more youngsters the opportunity to hone their skills and capabilities.

Formally launched late last year, Crimson Boracay’s Arts in Youth program is the resort’s way of encouraging fresh talents to make the most of their imagination under the guidance of the artist in residence.

The Perks of Having a Water Birth

So, what is water birth? Water birth is a method of delivering a baby while the mother is in a birth tub or pool filled with warm water. A midwife and a doula are often present to assist with the delivery. 

Because of the pandemic, some mothers have opted to deliver their baby via water birth with the approval of their doctors to be safer against the virus. Others have chosen this method for a more relaxed birthing experience. For some who live in residences far from hospitals, such as a tropical house and Siargao lot for sale, giving birth in their home via water birth is more practical and convenient. However, some hospitals also offer water birth, so if you think that it's safer to give birth in a hospital, you may do so, but talk it out with your doctor to know if the hospital has special arrangements for that.

Before deciding if water birth is right for you, it is best to consult with your doctor, as this is generally recommended only for pregnant women with low-risk and single pregnancies. Water birth is also not recommended if you’re below 17 and over 35. 

Take note that there could be rare risks that could happen while water birthing; again, these are rare occurrences:

You and your child could get an infection from the water

Your baby’s temperature could be too high or too low

Your baby could breathe in some of the water

The umbilical cord could snap before your child comes out of the water

If you live in a house and lot located in a busy city where there’s traffic, water birth in your home is more convenient because you don’t need to pack your hospital essentials and drive to the hospital. Instead, the midwife or your doctor will be the one to come to your place. Moreover, since you are in your home, you feel more relaxed, and your family and friends, no matter how many they may be, so long as they conveniently fit in your home, can be there to support you.

You Feel More in Control

Compared to giving birth in bed, floating in water during water birth allows you to relax and move better, so you are more in control of your movements when in labor.

Less Need for Pain Relief

Most mothers who undergo water birth find it less painful to deliver their baby this way. This is because the water’s buoyancy helps the uterine contractions be more efficient. It also helps improve the blood circulation to the mother’s uterine muscles. Additionally, the water helps the perineum be more relaxed and elastic, reducing the risk of severe tears. 

These are just a few benefits of water birth. Again, seek professional advice before considering undergoing this birthing procedure so that you and your baby are both safe and healthy.

Avon Pushes for Planet-kind Beauty

Since its completion, the solar installation has generated more than 250,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy, helping the beauty company lower its carbon footprint by 160 tonnes. It is expected to generate almost 841,100 kWh clean energy in its full year of operations, nearly quadrupling the carbon footprint reduced to 599 tonnes or equivalent to 329,315 trees planted.

We want to highlight that this is the first solar project of Avon, not just in the Philippines, but internationally," says Tirso Antonio B. Pereja, Avon Products Mfg., Inc. With its installation of solar panels, Avon joins the roster of international and local companies that engaged Meralco and Spectrum as part of their sustainability journey.

HIDILYN’S KABABAYANS IN ZAMBOANGA CAN NOW ACCESS NEWLY REHABILITATED HEALTH CENTER

The BDO Foundation, together with the city health office of Zamboanga, successfully completed the rehabilitation of the Mampang Health Center to help improve the health and well-being of its residents.


 According to Mario Deriquito, president of BDO Foundation, the rehabilitation project, which involved the improvement of the health center’s consultation rooms, treatment rooms, and clinics, to name a few, was finished in just two months. He recognized the work contributed by the staff of Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, Zamboanga’s city health officer, in the said initiative. 

Mampang is the town where Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz grew up and discovered her passion for weightlifting. Diaz herself expressed her enthusiasm for the development and even thanked BDO Foundation for its efforts to improve and rehabilitate the center. 

“Napakahalaga ng araw na ito sa mga kababayan ko sa Mampang at isang karangalan na maging bahagi nito. Ang mas pinaganda at pinaayos na health center sa aming lugar ay napakalaking tulong sa aming komunidad, lalung-lalo na sa kalusugan ng aking mga kababayan. Dahil sa aking BDO at BDO Foundation family, mas mabilis na matutugunan ang health needs ng mga taga-Mampang. Talagang you truly find ways. Gracias po,” shared Hidilyn. 

[Translation: “Today is a special day for my fellow residents of Mampang and I feel honored to be part of this event. The rehabilitation of the health center will greatly benefit our community. Through the efforts of my BDO and BDO Foundation family, the health workers can effectively attend to the needs of the people in our community.” 

For her part, Dr. Miravite said, “Thank you to BDO Foundation as this is the fourth health center that has been rehabilitated. We hope that this will not be the last.”

BDO Foundation is the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank. One of its programs is the rehabilitation of rural health units, which is aimed at helping improve the healthcare delivery system in the Philippines. Mampang Health Center is the fourth rural health unit it has rehabilitated this year.
