inside the mind of a pregnant woman ...

I never thought that I would be pregnant at this stage of my life. In all honesty, I thought that as I neared my 40s, I would just be counting down the years till B graduates and then I'd be free to do what I want.

Raising another baby was not in the plan at all. EVER.

But it happened. It's happening.

When I was pregnant with B, I had worries but I was also young back then. I was 24. It's a big difference from now that I am 38.

When you're 24, life is still an adventure, a mystery. You're still naive, optimistic, and you have a lot of inner strength because you still believe that life is fair. Chances are, there's not yet a lot of tragedy that has happened in your life at 24.

When you're 38, life isn't much of an adventure anymore especially when it's a life like mine. I'm no longer naive, optimistic, nor have a lot of inner strength because I know now that life isn't fair. There's been a lot of tragedy in my life such as surviving a wife beater, cheater, swindler, mental abuse, almost getting killed, physical heart problems, brain problems, and deaths.

I've survived all these and have learned to go with the flow, weather heartache, and just plain survive. I never thought that I had to survive a late pregnancy.

Or moving in with someone. Or thinking of getting married again. Or maintaining a relationship because now it's a different thing and one can no longer be wishy washy.

I never thought that I'd have to worry about giving birth, hospital fees, raising another child while B is in high school. I never thought that I'd have to think about the costs of raising a child, wondering if I'd still be alive by the time the kid is in high school, or if I'd even survive childbirth.

So many worries. Too little brain space.

I never thought that I'd be suffering from hormones so crazy even I am starting to wonder if I'm still normal. I never thought that I'd have sleepless nights simply because the baby inside doesn't want to sleep. I never thought that I'd have days where I won't eat anything regardless of how hungry I am because my palette has become messed up and my stomach refuses to accept food.

I never thought that I could feel so much love, hatred, pain, sorrow and a lot more all within a span of minutes.

Sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy. Sometimes I know that I am going crazy. Sometimes, I don't even feel pregnant. Other times, it's all that I can feel.

I fall asleep when I don't want to. I stay up when I want to sleep. My entire back hurts, NONSTOP. My legs feel like it's weighted down even if I stand for only a few minutes.

Sometimes, I just don't want to move. AT ALL. Sometimes, I want to do something and then I'll be hit with nausea. Sometimes, I'm halfway through eating when I suddenly lose all appetite.

Sometimes, I just flip and I can't stop myself no matter how much I try.

I wish someone did a study on this. Not just the physical aspect of things but the emotional hits a woman goes through. It's worse than a monthly PMS because this could last for 9 whole months.

I don't know how to survive the rest of the months.

Avel x Alden: Meeting of Two Stars

What happens when one of the top fashion designers in the country collaborates with one of the hottest young stars in the industry?

Well, AvelXAlden happens and it was Zilingo who actually made this collaboration a possibility.

Zilingo, the leading commerce platform for fashion and lifestyle, announced its partnership with world-renowned designer, Avel Bacudio, and multiple award-winning actor Alden Richards for their latest capsule collection of affordable limited edition athleisure wear. Part of the sale proceeds will benefit children from the Northern Luzon Association for the Blind in La Trinidad Benguet, Philippines.

The collection was launched at an exclusive fashion show last Auugust 22 at Xylo Club in Bonifacio Global City. Some of the items sold out in less than 10 minutes but don't worry, Zilingo will be restocking the items soon.

The AvelXAlden collection brings to Zilingo’s customers an affordable line of clothing that combines comfort and functionality, suitable for different occasions.

Ed Lorenzo, PR and Influencer Marketing Head
“We are extremely excited to work with Avel Bacudio and Alden Richards to showcase and carry their very first collaboration on Zilingo,” says Edryan Lorenzo, PR and Influencer Marketing Manager, Zilingo Philippines. “Inclusivity is part of our DNA and we are pleased to have Avel and Alden onboard to provide our customers with fashion options from a collection that embodies the same values,” Ryza Dipatuan- Razo, Marketing Director, added.

The collection will feature jackets, tracksuits, pullovers and joggers in shades of black, maroon, navy blue, off-white and gray. These colours were specially chosen as they were the first colors Avel Bacudio could see after being afflicted with temporary blindness for a period of time.

“I’ve always been a fan of Avel Bacudio’s designs. He’s been a good friend of mine for the longest time. As such, I am really psyched to have my very first fashion collaboration with Avel Bacudio,” Alden Richards shared.

“With this collaboration, we go beyond providing affordable fashion options to our customers - we share the opportunity to contribute to the social fabric with the Northern Luzon Association for the Blind on-board as our beneficiary, a cause close to me heart,” Avel Bacudio said.

Zilingo is proud to be supporting the collaboration between two talented individuals with unique styles of their own. This is the first time a fashion line will be rolled out on stage and simultaneously made available for sale on the Zilingo website and app.

Fashionistas across the country can purchase AvelXAlden collaboration on the Zilingo website and app starting August 22, 7PM and have them delivered to their doorstep at no extra charge. Customers can also enjoy the convenience of multiple payment methods including cash-on-delivery.

Citibank Global Wallet and it's 8 currencies

Finally, a global wallet is being launched with 8 currencies in it from one of the most trusted banks in the Philippines. The Citibank Global Wallet was launched today at The Grand Hyatt Hotel in BGC.

Since international travel has now become a common thing among millenials and businessmen, Citibank has decided to launch the Citibank Global Wallet. This is a new feature which will allow Citi customers to make purchases overseas at point of sale or online as well as withdraw cash from Citibank ATMs without incurring additional currency conversion charges.

Citibank is the pioneer in introducing this feature which is linked to the CitiGold and Citi Priority Debit Mastercard. Citi customers will now have access to 8 foreign currencies: US Dollar, Australian Dollar, Euro, Sterling Pound, Japanese Yen, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar, and the Philippine Peso.

With the Citi Mobile App or Citibank Online, existing Citigold and Citi Priority bank account holders can turn on Citibank Global Walley and open an account in any of the 8 foreign currencies in an instant. To fund their newly opened foreign currency account, they just need to transfer funds online from their existing US or Euro account.

Everything is automatically switched to the relevant currency.

Citi Philippines Consumer Business Manager Manoj Varma (2nd from left) with Citi Philippines Retail Bank Director Therese Chan (left most) shows world travelers Ingrid Chua Go (middle),
Stephanie Kienle Gonzalez (2nd from right)
and Marie Lozano (rightmost) how they can access eight currencies with
one debit card with the new Citibank Global Wallet.

Citibank is also offering a welcome gift of up to $5000 cash credits for customers who open a banking relationship today.  You can learn more about it by visiting this link.

BGC Eats

One of the hardest things to do in BGC is deciding where to eat. You don't just decide where to eat. You need to consider a lot of things.

Is the food great?

Is it reasonably priced?

Is the ambiance wonderful?

Will the place be instagrammable?

Is it easy to get to? Will there be parking?

You see, eating in BGC or any other busy metropolis is not just about eating. You need to think of everything which is why I decided to create a list of places where one can eat and not worry about the things listed above.

I'll list 3 places in BGC that I highly recommend going to because:

1. food is awesome
2. It is definitely bang for buck
3. Ambiance is wonderful.
4. The place is definitely instagrammable.
5. There are parking spaces if you have a car and can be easily walked to from any point in BGC.

I'll be recommending the best food to order as well per restaurant so if you try it out, let me know via the comments below.

Motto Motto in Serendra

This fluffy Japanese souffle pancakes is one of the signature dishes of Motto Motto. It's fluffy, decadent, and a true treat. If you haven't been to Japan, this is one of their signature dishes.

When you shake this plate, the pancakes are so soft that it actually wiggles. It also melts in your mouth which is something that is unique to Motto Motto.

Izakaya Sensu in Net Lima

This rainy season, the unli hotpot of Izakaya Sensu is absolutely perfect. You can get your fill over and over again until your tummy bursts which is what I did when I ate there a couple of weeks ago.

The broth is rich and the meat tender. It's comfort food especially on a rainy weekend. Perfect for those who want to recuperate from the hassle of the weekday traffic.

This is located across Fort Strip, in Net Lima.

Providore in SM Aura

If you are a meat lover, this is absolutely perfect for you. The Bone Marrow Burger from Providore hits the spot if you are looking for something heavy and filling.

I don't think any meat or burger lover would be able to find fault in this. Juicy, tasty, and big enough to fill you up. The fries are also bigger than your average french fries so it complements everything.

They also serve it with an actual bone marrow so it's really a must try.

I hope this helps you trim down your choices whenever you are at the BGC area. If you've eaten at any of these three places, what's your favorite?

Grumpy Bird Picture Book Soared High

Hailing all the way from Canada, children’s book author and illustrator Jeremy Tankard tickled funny bones all around with his ‘Grumpy Bird Collection’ picture book series at the National Book Store’s 2019 Philippine Readers and Writers Festival.

In a special session entitled ‘Telling A Story with Pictures’, kids were treated to a laughter-fest in a special read-aloud, followed by a live drawing demonstration by Tankard. Featuring a talk from Tankard’s own life experiences, the session also aimed to empower kids with dreams to become an author and illustrator. At the same time, the session offered a fun learning opportunity about the making a picture book and a day in a life of an author.

Tankard is the author and illustrator of several laugh-out-loud children’s books, including ‘Grumpy Bird’, ‘Boo Hoo Bird’, ‘Hungry Bird’ and ‘Sleepy Bird’, published by Scholastic. A family-friendly occasion, Tankard also shared his inspiring life journey; from a boy who did not enjoy reading, to the author-illustrator that he is today. Initially a reluctant reader in his childhood years, as a boy, Tankard first found joy in picture books -- and hopes that young children today can discover the love of reading through his stories too.

An instant international bestseller, Grumpy Bird tells the story of a bird who is too grumpy to fly and goes for a walk instead. Along the way, his newly-found companions eventually cheer him up and help him shake his bad mood. The hit picture book gave way to more award-winning books featuring the endearingly dramatic bird character, in Boo Hoo Bird, Hungry Bird and Sleepy Bird. Adorably illustrated with bright colors, the series also highlights bird’s helpful friends who are always there to make the day better (often in very silly, funny ways)!

‘Authorstrator’ (author and illustrator) Jeremy Tankard was born in Cape Town, South Africa, before starting a new life in the United States. A graduate of Alberta College of Art and Design, he continues create and illustrate children books until today, and now resides with his family in Vancouver, Canada.

The Grumpy Bird Series featuring ‘Grumpy Bird’, ‘Boo Hoo Bird’, ‘Hungry Bird’ and ‘Sleepy Bird’, is available for P315 each at selected book stores nationwide.

As a parent, I'd definitely recommend this book for kids 3 years old and up. It's a great way to introduce kids to reading because the pictures will be attractive which will make them interested in getting to know more about books.

I did the same thing with B when he was a kid and he is now a voracious reader. He actually has an entire bookshelf of books which he reads over and over again.

Be healthy inside and out with Max International’s

A healthy body is a beautiful body.

And beauty that is literally beyond skin deep, according to Max International Vice President for Asia Joey Sarmiento, is what Filipinos should aspire for, given today’s fast-paced lifestyle that has likewise accelerated the aging process.

“Health should be our barometer for what is beautiful. Pretty features can do very little if you are unhealthy or are suffering from a chronic disease,” Sarmiento said.

Sarmiento knows fully well where he is coming from – Max International which has been in the country for a decade now, after all, is known as THE Glutathione Company, and glutathione has become synonymous with achieving fair skin.

“Achieving fair skin is probably the least of the benefits that glutathione has to offer. It can provide far more significant health benefits,” he said.

Glutathione is known to strengthen the immune system, neutralize many different types of free radicals, and protect against oxidative stress.

According to clinical research, glutathione, chemically known as GSH, is the “most important” antioxidant produced within body’s cells, playing a key role in tissue building and repair and in supporting the immune system.

It is, however, difficult to supplement the glutathione already present in one’s body the way vitamins or other nutrients can be easily taken. The digestive process breaks down GSH into unusable components before it can reach the cells, making oral consumption almost impossible.

Taking glutathione intravenously, on the other hand, is costly and can only be done at a doctor’s office. There is also general concern in the medical profession whether this even allows the glutathione to reach the cells where it is needed.  An example of this concern is in the emergency room treatment for acetaminophen overdoses which is typically intravenous N-acetyl  cysteine to allow the cysteine to generate natural glutathione which protects the liver from damage.

Max International has solved this conundrum with its proprietor and patented technology RiboCeine™, which has been shown to be in oral dosage 300% more effective than the traditional N-acetyl-cysteine formula in raising glutathione levels in the liver.

RiboCeine™ was the end-result of the years of research done by Dr. Herbert T. Nagasawa, who, through the 1960s and 70s, saw how the Second World War left veterans in despair and dependent on alcohol, including his own brother who suffered from cirrhosis.

This prompted Dr. Nagasawa to develop a way to better prevent alcoholics from developing fatty livers, thereby reducing the risk of cirrhosis and liver failure. He and his team sought to boost the body’s natural production of GSH through RiboCeine™, which, once ingested, enters the bloodstream and delivers cysteine and ribose direct to the body’s cells, not only supporting glutathione production but also providing D-ribose an important provider of natural fuel and energy for those cells.

Today, RiboCeine™ is the keystone ingredient in several of Max International’s products, including Cellgevity and MaxOne.

MaxOne, in particular, is purely 100% RiboCeine™, which means it is safe even for people with allergies to shellfish and mushrooms as there are no additional active ingredients.

Cellgevity, on the other hand, features an advanced RiboCeine™ formula with 12 synergistic ingredients – including aloe leaf, Vitamin C, broccoli seed extract, resveratrol, and grape seed extract, among others.

“We at Max International believe that you should be healthy inside and out,” said Max International Global President Jim Stevralia. “Glutathione is the most powerful component of our body’s antioxidant defense system. It is even more powerful than Vitamin C – increasing our energy and slowing down the aging process,” he added.

Review of RedDoorz Malaco Hotel

M and I had a quick getaway the other day. It was a badly needed short break because of everything that has been happening. It's been really hectic so when we saw that there was a really affordable room available at Malaco Hotel via RedDoorz, we grabbed it immediately.

Malaco Hotel is very quaint. The published rate is higher so it's really good that this was booked via RedDoorz.

Our room was very basic but it had what mattered most. A really comfy bed, hot shower, and even a small veranda.

They also have a small cafe inside that serves good food. We chose to have breakfast here though they also serve lunch and dinner food.

It was short but sweet. We had a good night sleep and had a good breakfast. The best part is that the price did not break the bank.

RedDoorz really is your affordable travel escape specially this rainy season. It's easy to find partner hotels too such as Malaco Hotel. This one is located 5 minutes away from the Mahogany Market.

Just download the RedDoorz app using this link (https://reddoorzhotel.app.link/aug6) and get 20% off promo when you key in TRAVELESCAPES13.

To stay up to date for more promos, Like and follow RedDoorz on Facebook and @reddoorzph on Instagram.

Cinemalaya comes to Vista Malls

Before, you can only watch Cinemalaya in CCP or Ayala Malls. Now, things have finally changed much to the delight of Southies. Cinemalaya finally comes to Vista Malls and Evia Mall in Daang Hari is one of those choices.

In celebration of the 15th year of the country’s biggest and most successful independent film festival and in light of this year’s theme, “Kinse sa Sandaan: Cinemalaya Wave at the Microcinemas, Cinemalaya brings independent films into mainstream cinemas and microcinemas nationwide. The Cinemalaya Foundation believes that while film showing worked at Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) venues because it provides people with an interactive viewing experience, there is a continuous challenge to reach more Filipinos and get the message of these films across. This led Cinemalaya to look for alternative distribution partners nationwide.

Beyond its home at CCP, it is a first for Cinemalaya to be shown in Vista Cinemas. It is also the first time for independent films to be projected in 4k laser technology which is the pride of Vista Cinemas. With this technology, cinema-goers are treated with the sharpest, brightest, clearest and most vivid digital images, combined with an immersive audio courtesy of Dolby Atmos. It also boasts its luxury and comfortable seating from world-renowned brands, Figueras and Luxos. Through a better cinema experience in Vista Cinemas, Cinemalaya hopes to encourage more people to support independent films.

Cinemalaya and Vista Cinemas also organized off-site gala nights. The first happened last 7 August 2019 at Vista Cinemas Evia in Daang Hari, Las Pinas, signaling the opening of Cinemalaya in mainstream cinemas. The ceremony was led by Cinemalaya Foundation president, Laurice Guillen, who related how Cinemalaya was instrumental in helping aspiring filmmakers over the years and how happy she is that some of them are given opportunities in the industry even after Cinemalaya. Also, present is the General Manager of Vista Cinemas, Christiana Caparas, who gave the welcome remarks

After the festival, Vista Cinemas plans to continue screening independent films on certain days in its serious pledge to support the local film makers and the industry of independent films. Details on the matter will be posted on their social media page soon.

HP New Asian Learning Experience

They say that learning has evolved over the years. Whereas we learned from books and the library before, kids nowadays no longer need to leave the comfort of their room to learn. Everything can be discovered at the tip of their hands.

HP recently released findings from the new HP New Asian Learning Experience Study that showed the different personalities of parents and how it impacts the ways in which children learn.

What's really good about the study is that it proved that most Filipino parents are realists like myself. Filipino parents are aware of the potential obstacles that their children may face and are willing to do whatever they can to ensure that their kids are prepared.

One of the things that I worry about is my son's future. The cost of living, job security, and mental stability are just some of the things that I worry about for B. This means that I am just like any other Filipino parent.

This is also why I make sure that B is exposed to both digital and print. This ensures that he gets the best of both worlds and he is able to maximize what he learns. HP, through it's range of innovative printers and personal computers, such as the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3775 and the HP Pavilion x360, reinvents learning to ensure that students have the right tools to develop their skills and help their practical, creative, critical, and inventive learning.

As a Mom, this matters to me and I'm happy that there are brands that take interests in these things.
