Lifebuoy and Philippine Red Cross team up for Global Handwashing Month

Maintaining proper hygiene is one of the habits we learned to practice during the pandemic. As the restrictions ease up and face-to-face interactions become the norm, these practices, like wearing masks, frequent hand washing, and sanitizing, among others, should still be at the top of our minds, a collective effort to prevent the spread of diseases.

One of the world’s oldest brands, Lifebuoy has championed the message of health through hygiene for more than a century. The brand continues its commitment this year by partnering with Philippine Red Cross. Starting in 2021, the partnership has been geared towards protecting Filipino families and youth during the pandemic, and this year expanded to reach students through handwashing modules the two co-developed.

“Since 2021, we have partnered with the Philippine Red C    1`ross for a joint pandemic response through the provision of handwash educational materials and hygiene kits to vaccination sites, testing centers, molecular laboratories, and isolation facilities, as well as WASH response and development activities,” says Ann Esteves, Unilever Philippines Personal Care Business Lead. “And as young learners go back to school for face-to-face classes, the new phase of our partnership hopes to empower students and teachers alike to create a safe learning environment through our Lifebuoy x Philippine Red Cross Handwash Program.”

In celebration of Global Handwashing Day last October 15, Lifebuoy and Philippine Red Cross launched their Handwash Program in Schools Program. The initiative gave students access to school-based handwashing activities, essential supplies, hygiene kits, and educational materials regarding the best hygiene practices in combating infectious diseases. The program's goal was to continue spreading the message of #DoTheLifebuoy, and the importance of regular handwashing to protect the community’s health through simple steps. The partnership aimed to reach at least 50 schools and an estimated 10,000 students across the Philippines, including areas like Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Baguio, Nueva Ecija, Albay, Palawan, Southern Leyte, Davao del Sur, and Davao City. "We should make handwashing a habit so that we would not be vulnerable to diseases usually caused by bacterial infections," said Philippine Red Cross Secretary General Gwen T. Pang.

“Proper hand hygiene should always be taught in our schools. Children in our country are at a greater risk of suffering from diarrheal infection and intestinal worms, not only because of improper hygiene but also due to substandard sanitary facilities in our public schools," added Philippine Red Cross Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon. Currently, the Handwash Program has visited schools from Bataan, Kalinga, Pangasinan, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Batangas, Baguio, Palawan, Rizal Province, Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasig-Pateros, Paranaque, as well as Leyte, with a total of 22,000 pieces of Lifebuoy handwash and soaps provided.

As we go back to face the world, we should continue to #DoTheLifebuoy and uphold proper hygiene habits.

5 Jolly Recipes that are Sure to be Your Next Family's Favorites

Do you know what your love language is? For those of you not familiar with it, love language refers to the ways that we prefer to give and receive affection. There are five different types of love languages—words of affirmation, receiving gifts, quality time, physical touch, and acts of service. All these are very different, which can also make one think: is there one particular love language that can encompass all these five and roll them into one?

Well, the answer is yes. Shockingly enough, this type of expression of love is something you might be doing on a regular basis. What is it, you might ask?

It's cooking, plain and simple.

For a culture so centered and grounded in family and community, Filipinos have always used food as a direct way to show their care for their loved ones. Cooking is so ordinary and mundane that it can sometimes come off as routine, but you can see how love is woven through every step. When you think of an excellent recipe to make for your family, that’s a sign of love. When you put the time and effort into making a dish healthy and delicious, that’s a show of affection. When you put great food on the table for the rest of the family to enjoy, it’s a gift. And finally, when your loved ones let you know how much they appreciate all of it, that’s affirmation.

One brand that perfectly encapsulates this love language is Jolly. As a consistent leader in the packaged vegetable category, the brand has made it easier for homemakers to be more creative with their cooking by making freshly packed ingredients accessible to everyone. Now in its 25th year, Jolly offers a wide range of kitchen pantry favorites, from their best-selling canned mushrooms, corn, and packaged fruits to their canned soups and other condiments.

For Jolly, love can be felt the most in actions. ‘Yan ang Jolly Love’ is when you take the time to cook delicious and healthy dishes for your family. It’s when you take the extra mile to ensure that you never run out of ideas in the kitchen and when you use your creativity to create the most amazing recipes. As a kitchen favorite, Jolly wants to help every homemaker who wants to express affection by providing products they can turn into delicious expressions of love.

And since we’re already talking about food as the best way to touch someone’s heart, here are some recipes you can create for your family to show affection. Fair warning: they are so easy to do and delicious that they will most likely be your next meal favorites!

6 Ways to Protect Yourself Against Rising Inflation Rates

One of the tell-tale signs of inflation is when you start paying a higher price for the same goods and services you used to afford at a lower cost. This is most evident in the prices of goods when you go to the supermarket. You may also experience a similar trend when you pay for gas, transportation, education, utilities, or medical bills.

As a result, you may have a lower disposable income and fewer funds to spend than you want or need. This situation can make fulfilling your more challenging even if you’re employed. In some cases, increasing your income or applying for quick cash loans Philippines lenders can approve will help keep you afloat, especially if the budget is tight. Still, this is a short-term fix for dealing with rising inflation rates. If you want a long-term solution, consider these six recommendations:

Assess Your Spending

One of the best ways you can manage the effects of inflation is by evaluating your spending and removing any unnecessary ones. For example, you can reduce your nonessential spendings, such as travel and entertainment. Even if you reduce these parts of your expenses by just 5%, it can positively impact your purchasing power.

On the other hand, be sure to be strategic when it comes to your necessary expenses. Choose generic brand products and prescriptions when shopping. You can also use store loyalty programs or membership cards to trim your expenses and take advantage of special discounts or promos.

Look for Opportunities to Save

Aside from evaluating your spending, you should also be more active in looking for ways you can save. This may mean waiving your credit card or bank account fees, like annual membership charges. As much as possible, withdraw money from your bank’s ATMs to avoid withdrawal fees. It also helps pay your credit card bills on time and in full to ensure you won’t be charged late fees or higher interest.

Another way you can save some money is by reducing the number of subscriptions you have. See which ones you don’t use as often and consider canceling them. Also, routinely audit your subscriptions, as some might sneak in a price increase after some time. While these little adjustments may feel like minor savings, you’ll realize their effects on your finances once they accumulate.

Put Your Money in the Bank

If you want to soften the blow of rising inflation rates, keeping your money in the bank rather than storing it in your closet or wallet is a good idea. Depending on your bank, your money has the potential to grow from 0.10% to 0.25% a year when you deposit it in a savings account. This allows the value of your money to continuously earn instead of remaining stagnant.

Additionally, maintaining a savings account can encourage you to keep pooling your income in one place. This way, you will worry less about funding emergencies like home repairs, hospital stays, or temporary loss of income.

Consider Learning High-Paying Skills

Another way you can protect yourself from inflation is to acquire skills that will keep you relevant. A skilled worker in an industry with high demand opens more job opportunities. It also allows you to negotiate a more competitive salary because the people in charge will put more value on your expertise. If you don’t know where to start, consider researching emerging fields and skills with growing demand, like programming or data analytics. There are also recession-proof skills like accounting or healthcare servicing.

Explore Other Sources of Income

Increasing your cash flow is an intelligent way to keep up with rising inflation rates. If you’re currently employed, it’s a good idea to seek additional sources of income. It can also serve as a safety net if you lose your job. You can look for a side hustle to help increase your earning potential. You can find part-time jobs, invest in stocks, or explore small business ideas.

Start Investing

If you have some funds saved up, consider protecting your wealth from rising inflation rates by investing it. Talk to a broker or financial advisor and find out how you can make your money work for you. Your financial advisor may suggest trading in stocks or investing in mutual funds, depending on your risk appetite. Alternatively, you can invest in companies that can keep up with inflation rates. Typically, these are companies in the healthcare and energy sectors.

Like most individuals, you’ll feel the effects of inflation through the higher costs of goods and services. Although you can’t control inflation, you can manage its effects on your finances through these recommendations. Aside from protecting your current funds, these suggestions can also help you prepare for further events affecting your purchasing power.

Ian Veneracion headlines Studio Three-Sixty action series for Prime Video, ‘One Good Day’

Time and time again, Ian Veneracion continuously proves he is one of the most brilliant and established artists the country has ever produced. Started out his impressive showbiz career as a child and teen actor, Ian at some point eventually became a sought-after action star in the ‘90s and early 2000s with movies such as “Zaldong Tisoy,” “Halang Ang Bituka,” “Sgt. Bobby Aguilar: Isa Lang Ang Buhay Mo,” “Ben Balasador: Akin Ang Huling Alas,” “Bastardo,” “Armadong Hudas” and “Totoy Hitman,” among many others.

Proving he is more than just that, Ian’s passion for acting flourished even more as he expanded his range from drama, romantic comedies, horror, and suspense which Filipinos across generations have come to love.

Driven by his unmatched dedication to his craft, Ian remains at the prime of his career. So to celebrate his four decades in the entertainment industry, Ian is all geared up for his much-anticipated return to action via Studio Three-Sixty action series “One Good Day,” set to stream November 17 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

“This series will surprise our Filipino viewers in terms of quality. With the recent availability of current technologies, the level of image and sound quality, non-linear storytelling, and creative and fast-paced fight scenes, of which would certainly make us proud to showcase the Filipino talent in the art and science of filmmaking,” shared Ian.

In "One Good Day," Ian plays the role of Dale Sta. Maria, a strong-willed mobster, left the Rodrigo Organization after discovering that he had a brain tumor and that death was upon him. However, with the death of his loved ones, he is drawn out of retirement and is forced to go on a final mission before calling it a day.

“The role requires a delicate balance of internal ‘order and chaos’ for any actor. A sensitive man, trapped in the complexity of having to embrace violence to gain the peace and simplicity that ultimately is his end goal,” Ian explained.

Making this heart-pounding series a reality is notable action director Lester Pimentel Ong – best known for “Panday,” “Lastikman,” “Imortal,” “La Luna Sangre,” “Indio” and “Bagani,” to name a few.

“It gives me great pride to create action content for the region – something that I feel is critical to growing the industry. I am fortunate to be doing this with Ian, who is not only a brilliant actor but also a martial artist and an athlete – a true professional who has given Studio Three Sixty his trust,” Direk Lester enthused.

Joining Ian in the star-studded cast of “One Good Day” is Rabiya Mateo as Sandra, Andrea Torres as Alex Sandoval, Aljur Abrenica as Kyzer Catillo, Justin Cuyugan as Roman Rodrigo, Nicole Cordoves as Anne Rodrigo, Pepe Herrera as Joey Rodrigo, Robert Seña as Atty. Bobby Miclat and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo as Gloria Marquez.

Also with them in this six-episode series are equally impressive talents Claire Ruiz as Mayor Beatrice Marquez, Louise Abuel as Lucky, Joe Vargas as Agent Renz Cruz, Marela Torre as Agent Kona, Lance Pimentel as Lando, and Pontri Bernardo as Governor Paulo Simon.

A story about family, love, greed, and power in the beautiful dark backdrop of kingmakers in the Philippines, stream “One Good Day” on Amazon Prime Video beginning November 17, 2022, with new episodes dropping every Thursday.

BingoPlus adds smiles to MassKara Festival

BingoPlus, the first live-streaming bingo in the Philippines, added more life and gaiety to Bacolod’s MassKara Festival, one of the country’s biggest festivals that came back with a vengeance after an absence of two years.

From October 1 to 23, BingoPlus was in the mainstream of the celebrations as a sponsor of the Festival. With the celebration theme of “Balik Yuhum” (comeback), BingoPlus joined hands with the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation to pull out all the stops in staging a memorable and super-fun return to revelry in Bacolod City.

BingoPlus brought its signature feel-good mission to the month-long celebration of food festivals, beauty pageants, concerts, racing competitions, football games, and dance contests capped by a colorful, glittering night parade and street party, making this a Festival remembered for a long, long time.

The brand’s presence was felt in significant events such as the Electric MassKara, the MassKara Street Dance & Arena Competition, the Miss Bacolod MassKara beauty pageant, and the Dance Off Competition. The competition, where participants donned colorful costumes and smiling masks while dancing to festive music, was the highlight of the Festival.

From October 1 to 22 BingoPlus also ran the MassKara Raffle Campaign and awarded Php100,000, Php 75,000, and Php 25,000 to lucky winners.

The annual festival, first held in 1980, showcased Bacolodnon’s joyful spirit and creative talents. MassKara made Bacolod the “City of Smiles,” which became a catalyst for the city’s development in tourism, crafts, arts, and services. It eventually became one of the significant annual tourist attractions of the Philippines.

“We see the passion shared by MassKara and BingoPlus in bringing entertainment that gives rewarding experiences and added value to participants and audiences,” said Jasper Vicencio, AB Leisure Exponent Inc. (ABLE) President. “For this reason, we find our support of Masskara as a significant CSR initiative for BingoPlus.”

Since its launch, BingoPlus has supported numerous local talents and sports events. It is the official bingo partner of the PBA’s 47th season and is the official gaming partner of the Premiere Volleyball League.

In September, Bingo Plus held BingoPlus Day, an online celebration for its loyal supporters. Maine Mendoza was introduced as its newest celebrity endorser, who will work alongside its first endorser, the most sought-after host, Luis Manzano.

BingoPlus also plans to grant scholarships to lucky dreamers who will be given a chance to take a technical course in one of the schools in Metro Manila.

BingoPlus is licensed by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and is the flagship brand of Leisure & Resorts World Corporation (LRWC)’s subsidiary, AB Leisure Exponent Inc. (ABLE).

Zone V Camera Club Goes Beyond Creativity

Since its founding in 1978, Zone Five Camera Club (ZVCC), a guild of aesthetes who share a love for photography, has become one of the country's most renowned fine art photography clubs today.

Having gained recognition at local and international photography competitions, its membership has combined its passion for photography as an art form with a passion for creating a difference in people’s lives.

For years, ZVCC has been holding exhibits and fund-raising activities to support the advancement of the education of underprivileged students at an annual charity event fittingly called: Images of H.O.P.E. (HELPING OTHERS PROSPER & EXCEL).

In 2021, the charity event’s beneficiaries were scholars from the Assumption Development Foundation (ADF), a non-profit organization dedicated to learning and developing select youths at Sapang Palay, Bulacan.

Despite COVID-19 constraints, ZVCC was able to pivot and hold the event online. It was a first in the guild’s storied history.

But it is not without irony that Images of H.O.P.E.’s seamless transition into the virtual space starkly contrasted the plight of many ADF students.

Schooling for the underprivileged was disproportionately impaired during the pandemic.

“This is not only because of an absence of a reliable internet connection in their homes but more importantly because of the unlikelihood of them owning laptops and computers,” said ZVCC Vice President Angela Panlilio. “Both are obvious staples in the shift to distance learning.”

Perhaps as an unbearable coup de grace, the cramped quarters and raucous environs typical of indigent neighborhoods do not facilitate proper studying.

It is to this end that, through Images of H.O.P.E., ZVCC was able to raise funds to buy computers for ADF scholars; and, in partnership with PLDT/Smart’s fiber connectivity, build The Learning Hub.

A fully-functioning digital learning center equipped with 10 desktop computers and 600 Mbps internet speed, The Hub addressed ADF scholars’ needs to find an environment conducive to studying.

For 4th-year college scholar, Miranella stayed at The Hub for three months as a “refuge to survive online classes,” somewhere to concentrate and intensely focus on her lessons. The setup allowed the engineering student to “host a webinar efficiently” and eventually finish her thesis paper.

Clucking chickens and chattering neighbors were Jasmine’s interruptions at home. In her 2nd year of taking Office Administration, the non-stop commotion made it hard for her to work on school projects. But The Hub was “a peaceful place for people who are easily distracted by noise.”

Still, to some, The Hub even became a place they could call “home.”

To solve her internship struggles, Queenie, a student finishing Business Administration, stayed at the ADF not just for a few weeks but for an entire semester. Quicker access to The Hub made doing research and interviews for her digital project much easier to complete. And as a result, she graduated last September with the award of “Best Intern.”

Following the 2021 success of Images of H.O.P.E., ZVCC is again holding an online photography print sale featuring some of its best works from October 23-31 at www.zonev.org with the theme: “Larawang Likha, Handog sa Kapwa.”

“This year, we have chosen our charity event to benefit Educational Research Development Assistance (ERDA) SaBaNa (for SAnayan ng mga BAtang NAnambakan – which translates to Training Center for Child Scavengers),” said ZVCC Special Projects Head Ruben Castor Ranin.

Founded in 1974 by Fr. Pierre T. Tritz, SJ (Society of Jesus), a Frenchman who renounced his citizenship to become a Filipino national, ERDA dissuades Filipino children from dropping out of school.

The ERDA Foundation helps underprivileged students in Radial Road 10, Tondo, Manila, through the continued support of partners, volunteers, and generous benefactors such as ZVCC.

“ERDA has already assisted more than 800,000 children in their education, and Zone V is hopeful that we can help more,” said ZVCC President Bern Wong. “But of course, we need the public’s support, so we invite our friends, art collectors, and photography buffs to please visit www.zonev.org from October 23 to 21 and join us in this year’s Images of H.O.P.E.”

“With your patronage, together we can blend our passion for works of art with a passion for worthy causes,” Wong closed.

4 Favorite Outfits from the SHEIN Launch

I recently attended the launch of Belle Mariano as SHEIN's first Philippine brand ambassador. It was filled with a lot of media and influencers all decked out in SHEIN outfits. I was too!

I love that SHEIN has fashionable choices for plus-size women like myself. This is so important because it's tough to find pretty pieces for women who are not petite or slim.

Here are 4 looks that I loved during the launch as well as the cute Belle Mariano!

It was so much fun seeing the women sashaying down the stage in their different SHEIN outfits. Next time, I hope that they will also feature plus sized girls.

The SHEIN Pop-up store will be at Ayala Malls by the Bay Ground Floor until Sunday, October 22. Make sure to drop by and shop to your hearts content because that is instant gratification right at the tip of your hands.

Ready for a Better Future with Tang

The last few years have highlighted the need for better health and well-being for the family. The world has become difficult for children to flourish; kids miss countless opportunities to create rich and meaningful experiences, so vitamins that support kids’ holistic health have never been more critical. Moms need that extra reassurance for their kids to stay strong and face the world, so children can actively go out and participate in meaningful moments that prepare them for a better future.

The Tang Approach to Refreshing Nutrition

The #1 Powdered Beverage Brand – Tang, finds ways to permanently address the consumers’ needs. The NEW and IMPROVED formulation of Tang, fortified with Vitamins C, D, and Zinc, will be available in all 22 flavors–with Orange, Pineapple, Dalandan, Mango, Grape, Calamansi, and Strawberry already available in the market. Sik Sik with Vitamins C, D, and Zinc, Tang’s newest formula, helps moms gain confidence in knowing that they’re able to give their kids the right drink at the right moment, made the right way.  By helping kids become holistically solid and healthy, their adventurous nature can thrive–allowing them to actively participate in worthwhile moments that help prepare them for a better future.

“Tang is always testing new ideas to innovate the way we snack. We invest in understanding our consumers’ needs while exploring opportunities in broader snacking categories,” shares Chelsea Chu, Brand Manager for Tang of Mondelēz International in the Philippines. “For five decades, Tang has been a beloved household beverage enjoyed by moms and kids. It's no longer enough that powdered beverages are delicious, but they must be nutritious too,” Chelsea adds. “Tang is the product of understanding consumers’ needs and preferences. What we consume plays a massive role in our daily lives. It’s important to give families peace of mind in consuming products they trust,”

“To lead the future of snacking, brands like ours must grow. We want to continue to win in this space, which starts with being agile and critical innovators who listen and empathize with the consumers,” she concludes.

Consumer-driven Growth

According to the latest State of Snacking Report, the top motivator for consumers in relation to snack and beverage choices is finding options that take care of their bodies while serving nutritional needs. A rising appetite for functional snacks that boost immunity and are vitamin rich. Additionally, well-being is a priority for consumers globally. However, many embrace a broader definition of nourishment, particularly areas of physical (80%), mental (75%), and emotional (80%) health. It’s no longer enough that snacks are convenient and delicious. People want snacks that support their healthy, active, and busy lifestyles. Most consumers acknowledge the benefits of both function and indulgence, stating that it’s essential for their diet to include varieties of food that are good for nutrition as well as satisfaction. Nowadays, it’s both a source of nutrition and indulgence, social connection, inspiration, and purpose.

These insights are from the 2021 State of Snacking Report commissioned by Tang’s parent company Mondelēz International, compiled by the Harris Poll and Next Atlas. The report highlights the overall expanding role that snacking plays in the lives of consumers, which supports the company’s Snacking Made Right agenda.

Tang is committed to understanding consumers’ needs and lifestyles. Knowing what they know now, the brand aims to continue being consistent in delivering better quality and taste. The new and improved version of Tang, loaded with more nutrients, was launched in September of 2022 with the goal of helping consumers make better snacking choices. Tang reminds parents to choose nutritious options that help their kids grow up to become solid and ready so they don’t miss out on meaningful opportunities.

#LiveCleanLiveGreen at home for a Cleaner Future

Kindness is a trait parents always try to instill in their children, kindness to people and animals, and of course, kindness to the environment. While we try to teach our kids the importance of recycling, reducing waste, and more, we also try to find affordable and accessible ways to extend eco-friendly habits to the products we buy.

Unilever, through its beloved homecare brands Breeze and Domex, empowers parents like you to #LiveCleanLiveGreen and pass on green habits to your kids. Under its Linis Pilipinas campaign, the company remains committed to create a Clean Future, by providing shoppers with good quality products that are good for the environment, as well as accessible ways to reduce, upcycle and recycle.

Starting with the large packs of Breeze and Domex, Unilever has started creating bottle packaging made from 100% recycled plastic, saving up to 19,000kg or 342,000 pieces of bottles from going into landfills or oceans that contribute to pollution annually. Moreover, Breeze Powder is formulated with EcoClean technology and does not contain any hard surfactant that can damage the environment.

To strengthen their commitment to reduce plastic waste, Unilever has also partnered with The Plastic Flamingo (PLAF). A homegrown social enterprise that collects and upcycles plastic waste to create eco-lumbers and eco-boards, PLAF uses these to build furniture and shelters for communities in need. You can join in by dropping off your clean plastics at the Breeze and PLAF's collection point in UP Town Center.

Shoppers can also participate by purchasing the eco-friendly packed Breeze and Domex via the Linis Pilipinas Sale this coming October 22-24. Enjoy exclusive Buy 2-Take 1, eco bag giveaways and other discounts, deals, and gifts via Unilever Homecare’s official stores on Lazada and Shopee, or shop at any Robinsons Supermarkets, Puregold and Waltermart nationwide to take home a free eco bag when purchasing big packs. A portion of the proceeds during this sale period will be donated to PLAF to fund the collection and upcycling of 16,000 kg of plastic waste into eco-friendly furniture which will be donated to a beneficiary public school. Now, you can get huge savings while helping out the environment at the same time.

Benefits of Using PPR pipes in Drinking Water

A PPR pipe is a form of plastic pipe made from a material known as polypropylene random copolymer plastic. The material is similar to that used in manufacturing water supply materials for household purposes. Still, it can be used to provide hot and cold drinking water as well as for heating systems. So, is it a good investment, especially for drinking water? Let’s take a dive-down look at the benefits of PPR Pipes for drinking water and why it is safer.

First, PPR Pipes have a smooth inner surface. Compared to other traditional types of pipes, the PPR pipes have a very smooth inner wall or surface. Because of the smooth walls, the pipes only have a negligible effect on frictional resistance. Second, it has a long-term service; for over 50 years, the PPR piping system has been functional and still has a wide range of temperatures. Lastly, it is non-toxic, toxic chemicals that come from our water supply is a threat to our health, but pipes and fittings made from PPR are harmless raw materials. Thus, it will not carry toxic substances that will affect people's drinking water health. And it’s not only safe for our bodies, but it is also safe for the environment.

Overall, PPR pipes are safer and have more advantages than metal pipes which is why PPR is suitable for our drinking water. After all, we want our family to be safe and healthy at the same time. If you are looking for a PPR piping system for your next project, you can visit Phildex Page and inquire today. Phildex is one of the leading suppliers of PPR Pipes and Fittings in the Philippines and is known for the quality and good service they offer to their customers.

Conti's 25th Anniversarry

In the late 90s, three women who would later come to be known as the "Conti Sisters" — Cecille, Carole, and Angie — started a humble food business from their garage. It's hard to believe now that they used to serve neighborhood favorites such as Baked Salmon, Garlic Sotanghon, and Ensaymada in a makeshift kitchen in Paranaque 25 years ago.

It turns out that their love for good food has roots that go much further back. Their father was a public lawyer who frequently invited his colleagues to their home, so the sisters watched their parents entertain family and friends by cooking for them. That's how Carole—the central foodie among the three sisters— became interested in cooking and entertaining at an early age.

Angie, the youngest of three sisters, says it was her ate Carole who loved trying new food and was already planning to have a food business with her two sisters back then. Carole lived in the United States in the 1990s, sharpening her cooking and baking skills. She then returned to the Philippines with a cookware collection and a few “hard-to-find” ingredients.

Finally, the 3 three sisters opened a business. Carole was the chef, while sisters Cecile and Angie served as the tasters and order-takers.

Looking back, all it took were some good recipes, a dream to continue bringing together good food and people, and their innate flair for hospitality to create a menu that satisfied the neighborhood's taste for delightful meals and delicacies. Conti’s is building upon a tradition from the Conti sisters’ parents.

Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, Conti's Bakeshop & Restaurant serves more than 150 delicacies to its guests from 70 stores nationwide. It is poised to expand further, reaching more Filipinos with its homegrown hospitality and culinary excellence brand.

The smell of freshly baked cake or freshly served food instantly lifts one's spirits. It takes us back to the happy times spent around the family table, and those memories are hard to forget. Conti’s story reflects the importance of family, tradition, and the love we feel for each other and our guests. It’s a 25-year-old tale of delightful food and service, resilience and perseverance through good and bad times, and the best of the modern-day Filipino family.

Conti's Bakeshop and Restaurant provides delicious food, whether you choose to dine in, take it out, drive through, have it delivered, or reserve a function room for your next event.

Called To Rescue Philippines’ short film, ‘Graduation’

Called to Rescue Philippines (CTR PH) launched a short film yesterday at the KMC Armstrong Cafe. The short film stars famous young celebrities Donny Pangilinan and Nourijune Hooshmand and aims to raise awareness of the recovery and reintegration of human trafficking survivors into society.

Written and directed by international filmmaker Dean Colin Marcial, the film ‘GRADUATION’ is about a young woman, played by Nourijune, who falls into depression after surviving human trafficking. Through the support of her brother, played by Donny, she could slowly get back on her feet.

Beyond Rescuing

GRADUATION was the brainchild of Marcial, CTR PH Advocacy Head Abby Anciano, and CTR PH President Anthony Pangilinan. The three advocates and active volunteers of CTR PH found the need to bring emphasis not only to survivors' rescues but also to their reintegration into society.

“Bakit hanggang rescue nalang? Yung after-rescue rin kailangan. [This project] was out of frustration for me and is one of the reasons I decided to do this,” Anthony explained.

“Our main focus [was on a] survivor’s reintegration into society. It’s something that I drew on, something Donny and Nourijune drew on,” Dean expressed.

From there, the two gathered a team of volunteers to bring the short film to life. With help from family, friends, clients, and donors, Graduation was set out to be one purpose-driven production.

Heeding The Call

The short film centers Cinemalaya actress Nourijune Hooshmand and Star Cinema actor Donny Pangilinan. Donny is a long-time anti-human trafficking advocate, and both are currently active CTR PH volunteers. Director Dean Marcial, scriptwriter, and director of the film, handpicked the two for the starring roles.

When asked about participating in the project, Nourijune and Donny expressed no hesitation whatsoever.

“When Dean accepted to go through this project alongside Nour, it’s not something I had to think twice about,”  said Donny, “I specifically chose to do this. I really believe this is something we needed to do.”

“This [advocacy] is vital work. I’m very thankful that I had this opportunity. I’m delighted to be a part of this,” Nourijune shared.

Everyone Is Called To Rescue

Doctor Cyndi Romine, international director of Called To Rescue, noted: “The film is for everybody because we all know somebody. To assume we don’t know somebody would be an error on our part.”

Though people might wonder who this film is truly for, whether it’s for those rescued or those taking care of the rescued, Graduation is a film made to touch all audiences who view it. It sheds light on the significance of aftercare work and a loving community — a part of healing that is often overlooked.

“Once a person is rescued, you need to meet a lot of people and still go through the journey with the help of people who love you,” Donny noted.

“The bond of family is different, and knowing someone is there for you can really help what you’re healing from,” Nourijune adds.

Through the 5-minute film, CTR PH hopes to draw attention to the post-rescue challenges of trafficking survivors and promote the collective role of the community (especially family members) in addressing their needs, supporting their rehabilitation process, and cultivating a safe space for their ongoing journey of healing.

“It takes a village to raise a child: It takes a village to heal a child,” Anthony shared. Everyone is called to rescue.

GRADUATION was made possible with generous donors: Magic Crackers, Jollibee, Grab Philippines, KMC Solutions, Cabalen, MediCard Philippines, and LabX Corporation.

Viu, PCCW’s pan-regional OTT video streaming service, announced the premier of K-Love, the latest  Viu Original title from the Philippines. Always looking to deliver content from Asia that resonates with Asian audiences, this series is a homage to fans of K-Drama, a  dedication to all who have cried and laughed along with each episode. Iza Calzado,  Jake Cuenca, Isabelle Daza, Sue Ramirez, and Gabby Padilla lead an all-star cast that walked the red carpet for the media conference and screening at the Greenbelt  Cinemas on 8 October.

Kdrama

Mr. Vinchi Sy-Quia, Assistant General Manager of Viu Philippines, shared how Viu aims to bring top-tier local talent to the global center stage, “We are thrilled to start the quarter with a story that will undoubtedly touch Viu-ers’ hearts. K-Love, a  Viu Original from the Philippines, is a testament to our pursuit of working  with the best, contributing to the Filipino creative ecosystem by producing endearing  stories with high standards.”

The award-winning team behind K-Love includes director Bobby Yan, a seven-time  Emmy-award winner, and creator Corinna Vistan, who previously worked at Marvel  Studios as a Content Producer for theatrical releases and lent her expertise to record-setting blockbusters such as Avengers: Endgame and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

During her nine-year tenure at Marvel Studios, she crafted creative content strategies. She produced content such as short films, documentaries, music videos,  featurettes, trailers, and interactive experiences for 19 of the 29 Marvel films released between 2010-2019.

Corinna shared that K-Love is the first concept she pitched when she became Head of Content Development for Viu Philippines, “I came home from the US thinking all my friends were going to ask me about my experience working on Avengers  Endgame, but all they could talk about was their fascination with Korean dramas! I realized that K-Dramas had their own set of hardcore die-hard fans. This  world interested me, so I wrote the concept for K-Love.”

Mirroring these fans, K-Love centers on five friends and their stories: Tish, Jay,  Shiela, Val, and Frances. One thing drives all of them despite leading various lives and facing various challenges – their love for K-drama. There is something about that moment when they are engrossed in K-drama land and staring at the screen that takes them out of the everyday tedium and makes them realize that their life may be just as enjoyable. They will learn how tightly connected and influenced by the world of K-drama their journeys are as they face life's challenges, foster friendships,  and experience “kilig” moments.
