A pioneering event promoting the Philippines as a world-class health and wellness destination will have a rerun on January 26-28, 2024, at the SMX Convention Center at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

Dubbed the Health & Wellness CONFEX 2024, the three-day event will gather under one roof the stakeholders of the multi-trillion-dollar health and wellness industry – from award-winning wellness resorts to globally accredited hospitals that provide medical tourism packages, all the way to organic farms and specialty shops that offer a wide array of innovative, sustainable and eco-friendly health and wellness products and services.

With the theme “Go & Get Better,” the event highlights the promotion of regenerative tourism, which, in essence, is a strong call for making the places we visit better than we found them and pursuing economic growth while managing the social and environmental impacts of our visit. The event is, in fact, the centerpiece of a global multi-media campaign that aims to showcase the country’s many health and wellness destinations and will feature an exhibit, a conference, business matching sessions, and various experiential activities. It is the only trade fair in the Philippines promoting health and wellness tourism, products, and services.

The ConFex will also launch its innovative television travel show-vlog that will allow viewers to explore the fascinating world of health and wellness amid the breathtaking natural wonders of the Philippines. Called OTW, the acronym for “On Travel & Wellness,” it will take viewers on a virtual trip to the country’s many tourist spots while highlighting, at the same time, the importance of wellbeing, of keeping healthy and safe while leading an active lifestyle. The 13-episode show will provide stunning views of the sun-kissed beaches, magnificent dive sites, towering mountains, and verdant woodlands that the Philippines is famous for, and it will also provide an in-depth look at the country’s diverse wellness practices – including traditional healing arts – through compelling anecdotes and discussions with regional experts. OTW will air on GMA 7’s GTV.

On its third day, the event will likewise hold a Wellness Festival called Masigabo with various programs and activities that pay tribute to the industry and sacrifices of the migrant workers, better known as overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). On-hand activities are designed to make them feel better, relaxed, and loved. Health and wellness experts will also deliver talks about financial health, physical wellness, beauty, sustainability, environmental protection, government regulations, and more.

Health & Wellness CONFEX 2024 is co-presented by the Department of Tourism (DOT), in partnership with the Department of Health DOH), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), Duty Free Philippines (DFP), and Tourism Promotions Board (TPB).

Coca-Cola Philippines Accelerates Efforts to Achieve Circular Economy on Plastic Packaging

Coca-Cola Philippines concludes 2023 with significant progress in its commitment to environmental sustainability and enters 2024 with an increased resolve to accelerate its efforts. This year, the company continued to strengthen its initiatives to meet its World Without Waste targets and launched “May Ikabobote Pa”, a brand-led initiative aiming to inspire behavior change among consumers regarding recycling. This includes expanding partnerships with organizations sharing a commitment to advancing a circular economy for plastic packaging.

The Coca-Cola Company also unveiled its 2030 Water Security Strategy, which aims to achieve 100% circular water use across 175 facilities globally. Additionally, the company plans to partner with like-minded organizations to enhance the health of 60 critical watersheds and return a cumulative total of 2 trillion liters of water to nature and communities between 2021 and 2030.

“We are grateful for all our projects this year, which demonstrate our dedication to conducting our business more sustainably and empowering the communities where we operate and serve,” said Tony del Rosario, President of Coca-Cola Philippines. “We recognize our responsibility to continue making a positive impact in communities and the environment and acknowledge that we still have a long way to go and that we cannot do this alone. We encourage everyone to join us in these efforts.”

Advancing a circular economy on plastic packaging

Coca-Cola Philippines took another significant step toward a circular economy for plastic packaging by introducing more bottles made from 100% recycled PET plastic (rPET), excluding caps and labels. In September this year, the company introduced rPET packaging for Coca-Cola Original in 190ml and 390ml and Wilkins Pure in 500ml, in addition to Sprite 500ml, which was introduced in 2019.

The announcement came on top of the launch of “May Ikabobote Pa,” the company’s new consumer engagement initiative aiming to inform and engage consumers about the actions they can take to recycle their empty plastic bottles.

"May Ikabobote Pa" is brought to life by new rPET labels featuring a call to action, ‘Recycle Me Again,’ and a QR code that directs users to the Coca-Cola Sustainability Hub. This hub provides information about the company's recycling program, including a map displaying the locations of over 2,800 recycling drop-off points across the country, in collaboration with more than 60 partners. The hub also provides relevant updates on the company's waste management initiatives. Moreover, "May Ikabobote Pa" offers enhanced consumer recycling experiences, digital-led communications, and partnerships within selected 7-Eleven and Shel outlets.

Leveraging partnerships for effective waste collection and capacity building

Since the launch of The Coca-Cola Company’s World Without Waste global strategy in 2018, Coca-Cola Philippines has formed strategic alliances with the government, non-governmental organizations, and civil society to help establish a circular economy for plastic packaging in the country.

One of the company’s goals is to make recycling easier and more accessible for consumers by expanding its over 2,800 recycling drop-off points across the country through increased partnerships with like-minded organizations and institutions. This includes enabling the participation of micro-entrepreneurs, particularly carinderias and sari-sari stores, through the Tapon to Ipon and Tindahan Extra Mile Balik PET Bottle programs. Both programs help create a community-backed circular economy for plastic packaging while promoting economic empowerment among micro-retailers.

For 2024, the company aims to expand the number of its partner carinderias and sari-sari stores to 2,400 in Metro Manila and nearby areas. Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Philippines' bottling arm, Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines (CCBPI), has inaugurated over 700 Tapon to Ipon store hubs in 170 cities and municipalities across the country. CCBPI has also partnered with the provincial governments of Iloilo, Davao del Sur, and Camiguin for the large-scale collection of recyclable plastic bottles.

Coca-Cola Philippines also helps improve the welfare of informal waste sector workers by supporting the work of social entrepreneur Plastic Bank. Since 2021, the partnership has so far activated 38 waste collection locations and 651 collection community members in the South Luzon area which has resulted in the collection of 546,000 kilograms of post-consumer bottles for recycling.

Helping preserve and improve water resources

In the Philippines and around the world, people are experiencing the impact of a warming planet through changes in water—from floods to droughts to rising temperatures in oceans. These changes adversely affect farming communities, create challenges in food production, and make it difficult for hundreds of communities to access safe and clean water for drinking and sanitation.

With a presence in more than 200 countries and territories, The Coca-Cola Company recognizes its responsibility to protect local water resources and help people who live in places that face water scarcity. Coca-Cola gives priority to communities near its facilities, urban hubs where its products are sold, and rural farming areas where it sources and grows its ingredients.

In the Philippines, Coca-Cola champions water security through efficient water use in manufacturing, improving watershed health and helping communities access safe and clean water.

Bottling partner CCBPI has improved its national water use efficiency across 18 manufacturing plants throughout the country through stringent water-saving initiatives. From 2015 to 2022, CCBPI saved approximately 11 million cubic meters of water, equivalent to about 4,400 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines prioritizes nature-based solutions as a way to conserve watersheds using natural processes such as reforestation, wetland restoration, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture.

Through the Foundation, Coca-Cola Philippines collaborates with more than 25 partners nationwide to return the same amount of water used in producing finished products to nature and communities. This collaboration aims to enhance access to water for drinking and sanitation in the most impacted communities.

"The Coca-Cola Company has been in the Philippines for the past 111 years. We stay true to our company’s purpose of refreshing the world while making a difference through loved brands, done sustainably, for a better-shared future," said del Rosario. "As we look ahead, we are dedicated to serving Filipino consumers their favorite beverage brands and building a thriving and sustainable business that will endure for many more years."

Filipinos can do More with Natural Energy-Boosters

Every moment counts in the pulsing beat of the city, where the dreams of Gen Zs and Millennials soar high. These ambitious go-getters—be they students burning the midnight oil, young professionals mastering their craft, or creators diving into passion projects—have a story. And it's one of juggling, striving, and pushing boundaries.

For the modern Filipino youth who wears multiple hats and is ever eager to excel, slowing down isn't in the playbook. A survey by Deloitte paints the picture: with 71% of Filipino millennials and 65% of Gen Zs taking on extra jobs to make ends meet. Their days aren't just filled; they're bursting at the seams.

However, the challenges of balancing work, studies, personal pursuits, and a buzzing social life — all the while trying to stay on top in this fast-paced world — can be draining. That’s why it’s important to tap into energy that keeps you productive and going throughout the day.

“Ensuring consistent and sustainable energy means keeping the momentum, staying sharp during a brainstorm, acing that presentation, or even managing back-to-back meetings without faltering,” Christopher Michael Del Rosario, Enature’s Director, shared.

As modern consumers take charge of their futures, Enature, a brand new energy drink, is at the forefront of providing a better way to fuel up for the day. A naturally-caffeinated energy drink thanks to guarana and Vitamin B12, Enature empowers the daily grinders to embrace each day with renewed energy and sustained functionality.

Sourced from the Brazilian guarana seed, guarana offers a steadier, more sustained release of energy. Combine that with vitamin B12. Known for its ability to contribute to the body's natural energy-generating processes, vitamin B12 synergizes with guarana to allow individuals to conquer their day with a renewed focus.

“By harnessing the power of natural nutrients, options with naturally-sourced ingredients like Enature can encourage people to achieve their goals with more sustained energy,” Del Rosario added.

Hong Kong Disneyland teams up with Make-A-Wish, treats critically ill kids to 'Summer Snow Day' at new World of Frozen

For the first time in forever, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) teamed up with Make-A-Wish® to grant life-changing wishes at the all-new themed land World of Frozen.

Eleven  children living with critical illnesses and their families from around the world traveled to Hong Kong to visit the World of Frozen and have their wishes granted. They are among approximately 130 guests traveling from local Make-A-Wish affiliates including the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan to join the Summer Snow Day Wishes Celebration.

“Making wishes come true is some of the most important work we do at Disney,” said Jill Estorino, President and Managing Director of Disney Parks International. “In fact, Disney is the largest wish-granter in the world for Make-A-Wish. Hong Kong Disneyland joined that journey when it opened in 2005, and has been bringing Disney magic to the local community and beyond ever since.”

The entire event was inspired by one child’s wish to meet the Imagineers involved with the all-new World of Frozen.

Dominic, a wish child from Singapore, was diagnosed with hemophilia seven days after birth. Despite facing an incurable condition that requires a lifetime of treatment, he remains steadfast in his pursuit of knowledge, fueled by a passion for mathematics, science, engineering, and space.

After watching the documentary “The Imagineering Story” on Disney+ during the pandemic, Dominic was deeply inspired by the Imagineers’ creativity and innovative use of technology to build Disney parks and attractions.

“While many Disneyland guests may only see what is presented, I am drawn to explore the rationale behind the scenes,” he said. “The work of Imagineers combines robotic techniques, architecture, engineering, and other disciplines, turning imagination into reality through numerous trials and experiments. I am thrilled to meet them to learn more about their work.”

Jo Phoa, Director of Creative Development of Walt Disney Imagineering Hong Kong, and Angus Chan, Principal Ride Control System Engineer of Walt Disney Imagineering Hong Kong, were touched by Dominic’s thirst for knowledge and excitement about Imagineering. They designed a special exploratory tour for Dominic, guiding him through the new attraction Frozen Ever After, which utilizes state-of-the-art Audio-Animatronics technology.

Additionally, Dominic learned about the electric motion simulator system of Iron Man Experience – the first at any Disney park and had the unique opportunity to witness the design process.

Dominic, who visited a Disney park for the first time, expressed his thrill at exploring the new World of Frozen and learning about its technology and operations. His conversations with Phoa and Chan reaffirmed his passion for science, inspiring him to become an Imagineer.

Rhianne, a wish child from the Philippines, had her wish captured by the end of 2019. She was ready to travel in early 2020 but then the pandemic hit. During the wait for travel to be safe, Make-A-Wish Philippines continued to engage with her for over three years through Disney-themed care packages, a surprise birthday party, and a special invitation to the first Wish Ball to give a testimonial. Throughout the last three years, Rhianne has been bravely going through her medical treatment while patiently waiting for her wish to come true.

“This is my first visit to Hong Kong Disneyland and also my first trip abroad, which is so exciting. I can’t wait to visit World of Frozen and experience Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs,” Rhianne said.

“This is a remarkable day for Make-A-Wish. For the first time ever, we are granting wishes from the Southeast Asia region at Hong Kong Disneyland,” said Dr Kevin Lau, Board Director of Make-A-Wish International. “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Hong Kong Disneyland for inviting us to this special event celebrating the power of wishes at the kingdom of Arendelle and joining hands with Make-A-Wish in bringing hope to children from all around the world.”

To commemorate the opening of World of Frozen and the 25th anniversary of Make-A-Wish Hong Kong, the resort will donate HK$10 for every transaction made at Tick Tock Toys & Collectibles in the kingdom of Arendelle to Make-A-Wish Hong Kong from today until Jan 10, 2024. Combined with the proceeds from the recent “Wish Upon A Chocolate Cake” charity sales at the resort, HKDL plans to contribute a total of HK$600,000 to support the development of Make-A-Wish Hong Kong.

For over 40 years, Disney and Make-A-Wish have together fulfilled more than 150,000 Disney-inspired wishes around the world. The bravery, tenacity, and optimism displayed by the wish children are an inspiration for all cast members at HKDL, and the resort will continue to work with Make-A-Wish Hong Kong and other Make-A-Wish International affiliates to support the wishes of wish children living with critical illnesses and their families, creating magical memories that last a lifetime.

6 Imaginative Ways to Give Old Furniture New Life

Bringing home new furniture or decorative pieces can help liven up a space and make it more functional. However, not everyone has the budget to purchase a new piece or two. In this situation, repurposing an old piece of furniture might be considered. When you’re doing a furniture makeover, it can involve reupholstering, refinishing, or repainting the piece. The objective can be purely aesthetic, but in some instances, the result can be a complete functional transformation.

Aside from being a cost-efficient solution, transforming old furniture helps breathe new life into them. It adds a personal touch that store-bought items often lack. This kind of DIY project is also an eco-friendly alternative compared to throwing out the old piece and replacing it with a new one.

If you’re looking into sprucing up old furniture, consider these creative ideas as inspiration.

But First, Assess Your Furniture Pieces

Before you rejuvenate an old piece, take a moment to assess your furniture's condition and style. Is it a sturdy piece with good bones, or does it need a bit of repair? It’s also a good idea to consider the piece’s design elements and let those influence the direction of your creative endeavor.

At times, some furniture may have reached the end of their lifespans, and there’s no longer any practical means to repurpose them. In such a case, the next best thing to do is to find somewhere you can sell old furniture. Some online marketplaces also allow people to buy and sell pieces like bedroom furniture. There, someone who has more advanced skills might find interest in your old pieces which they might be able to repurpose or upcycle. Consequently, you can earn from the transaction and use the money to fund your other home improvement projects.

1. Try Creative Painting Techniques

One of the simplest and most impactful ways to revive old furniture is through the transformative power of paint. Ombre, distressing, and stenciling are just a few techniques that can breathe new life into a tired, old piece. You can take that old wooden chair with peeling paint and give it a fresh coat of vibrant color using an ombre effect. This involves starting with a deep shade at the bottom and gradually fading to a lighter tone at the top. The result is a visually stunning, modernized chair that can become among the focal points of any room.

2. Explore Decoupage and Fabric Magic

For a touch of whimsy and personality, consider decoupage to give your furniture a new life. It involves decorating surfaces with paper cutouts and applying layers of adhesive. This technique works best on even surfaces like an old coffee table. Instead of discarding the furniture, revitalize the tabletop with a decoupage collage of vintage maps or magazine clippings. Then, apply a clear sealant for a glossy finish or varnish for a worn charm. Either way, the sealant protects the decoupage from wear and tear.

Another idea is to use fabric or wallpaper instead of paper cutouts. This helps add texture and visual interest to the piece. In the case of a simple wooden dresser, you can give it a chic makeover by covering the drawer fronts with a bold geometric-patterned wallpaper. This adds depth and style, transforming the dresser into a statement piece.

3. Create Functional Transformations

As mentioned previously, repurposing furniture isn't just about aesthetics. It can also be about functionality. For example, you can convert an old dresser into a charming kitchen island. Remove a few drawers and add a countertop. Then, apply a fresh coat of paint with a color that suits your kitchen design. This kind of furniture transformation not only enhances your kitchen but also provides additional storage and workspace.

Another creative idea is turning a discarded door into a unique headboard. This project requires sanding and painting the door to match your bedroom decor. Once you’re satisfied with its new look, mount the door behind your bed for a striking focal point.

4. Revive Furniture Upholstery

If you have a chair or sofa with good bones but worn-out fabric, consider re-upholstering it. Simply choose fabrics that align with your current style. For instance, you can take a vintage armchair with faded upholstery and reupholster it in a vibrant, patterned fabric. Then, finish the upcycling process by adding a contrasting throw pillow for an extra pop of color. This decorative technique updates a beloved piece, so you can appreciate it even more.

5. Incorporate Personal Touches

One of the best things about repurposing old furniture is that you can infuse it with personal touches. Some ideas you can try include adding family photos to the back of a bookshelf or the inside panels of a cabinet. You can also incorporate your favorite quotes by stenciling them onto a repainted tabletop or chair seat. Adding these details makes the piece uniquely yours. At the same time, it contributes a sense of nostalgia and warmth to your home.

While it may take some time and creativity, repurposing old furniture allows you to turn them into cherished elements of your home. They also bring a fresh take to your interiors without costing too much. So, the next time you’re thinking of discarding furniture, consider repurposing it and trying out any of the ideas mentioned here. You might just be able to transform outdated pieces into something new, vibrant, and unique.

Beating the holiday rush: Here’s how 3 business owners winged it this season with these “delivery hacks”

Christmas is upon us, and you know what that means: traffic, crowded malls, with everyone rushing to buy gifts and prepare for parties. For business owners, this season is great news, but the heightened demand for products and services can be a double-edged sword.

But three business owners are ready to face the holiday rush. Here’s how Aguirre Office Furniture, Bloomingails.ph, and Etiquetta PH are powering through this season:

Aguirre Office Furniture

The orders and inquiries started pouring in as early as October for Aguirre Office Furniture, a national provider of office furniture, services, and office solutions.

According to their Chief Financial Officer Ken Arocena, the holiday season has given them a 50 percent increase in orders.

However, Arocena shared that their operations require additional resources to manage the increased demand.  “Given this, we have to deal with potential shipping delays and managing customer expectations,” he added.

The solution, according to Arocena: Lalamove. He remarked that Lalamove’s wide array of services, especially affordable rates, helped Aguirre Office Furniture keep up and deliver what they promise to their clients, which is the ease of how they do business.

Arocen also noted that their “secret hack” is using Lalamove’s multiple booking feature. He explained, “It’s how we minimize logistics costs and send our orders to multiple locations in one go.”

Bloomingails.ph

For Bloomingails.ph, one of the most trusted flower shops in Manila, the demand is quite high, especially for their fresh mini pine trees, wreaths, and Christmas centerpieces. According to their Chief Executive Officer Abigail Ang-Santander, their event styling business is very robust as well, as this season is a time for a lot of celebrations.

Since part of their business is making sure every special occasion is perfect for their clients, the Bloomingail.ph CEO explains, “We prepare and send out orders very early or after rush hour if the client is amenable to accepting late deliveries. But we make sure we’re on top of our inventory and don’t have to do lots of rush orders for suppliers.”

This peak season, Abigail also heavily relies on Lalamove. She remarked, “With Lalamove, I can book multiple drops and multiple vehicles, especially for our time-sensitive products to reach our clients on time.”

When asked about her favorite feature of the on-demand delivery app, she shared, “We can always rely on trusted partner drivers. This is crucial because we always need to make sure the items are carefully delivered, plus the partner drivers are courteous not only to us but to the recipients – our clients – especially, despite being stuck in traffic the whole day.”

Etiquetta PH

Every year, Etiquetta PH, a souvenir shop, always urges its customers to book in advance to beat the holiday season. “We offer early bird promos as early as August, as well as scheduled pickups of set date of releasing orders, so by the third week of November, we’re already dispatching the items,” shared Etiquetta PH Chief Executive Officer Ria San Juan-Gumaru.

This mompreneur explained that this is their process in anticipation of the major challenges for their business. These include logistics issues, whether it’s delays in the delivery of raw materials or shipping of orders to their customers due to the heavy traffic.

When the peak season ushers in paired with increased demand for logistics, Lalamove always comes to the rescue for Etiquetta PH. According to Ria, “Lalamove’s user-friendly app makes booking seamless and efficient. It’s easy to schedule deliveries, and you don’t have to fill in a ton of information.”

Her favorite, though, proven to help with their business, is Lalamove’s vast fleet of delivery vehicles. “I can choose the most suitable option according to my needs. This flexibility ensures we can adapt to the ever-changing demands of the peak season,” she adds.

“Supporting the needs of the micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) is always a priority for Lalamove, especially during this time of year. Our platform is here to make the holiday season easier for our business owners, one delivery at a time,” remarked Lalamove Philippines Managing Director Djon Nacario.

No need to worry about the high demand during the holiday season. Learn from these business owners and go for their logistics tactics with Lalamove, your trusted delivery partner in Luzon and Cebu.

UN: Gender-responsive migration policies and governance essential for safe and fair opportunities for women and OFWs

Facing challenges such as discrimination, violence, labour exploitation, lack of access to decent work, and major social and economic disruptions in the country and globally, Filipino women and migrant workers are finding stronger partners and strategic opportunities through the Safe and Fair (SAF) programme’s initiatives aimed at creating gender-responsive migration policies, governance and safer labor migration conditions from recruitment, to working abroad and until return and reintegration.

The SAF programme is a regional initiative under the multi-year European Union-United Nations Spotlight Initiative which has invested EUR 500 million in projects throughout the globe to eliminate violence against women and girls. It is implemented through the joint efforts of the International Labour Organization (ILO), UN Women, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) – dedicated to enhancing the labor migration experience for Filipino women.

“Throughout its 5-year implementation, ‘Safe and Fair’ embodies a commitment to transforming the migration journey into a safer, more dignified, and empowering experience for Filipino women," said Rex Varona, National Project Coordinator of the Safe and Fair Programme.

Christoph Wagner, Head of Cooperation of the European Union Delegation to the Philippines added, “The EU is proud to have joined forces with the UN in a pioneer effort to combat violence against women and girls globally through the Spotlight Initiative. Women OFWs are particularly vulnerable to a series of risks and the EU-UN Safe and Fair programme was designed to address many of those risks.”

The programme conducted legal and policy reforms, capacity building, and awareness-raising to respond to the critical issues faced by migrant women such as violence and discrimination, inefficient migration governance, and inaccessible services. Varona added that “by placing women’s voice, choice, and agency at the heart of our strategies, activities, and services, we are setting a new standard for labour migration.”

For instance, the programme contributed inputs to at least 16 key policy instruments to enhance the gender-responsiveness of labour migration governance in the Philippines, particularly the crafting of the law as well as the implementing rules of Republic Act (RA) No. 11641 in 2021 that created the Department of Migrant Workers, and RA No. 11299 of 2019 which created the office of the social welfare attaches. It also supported unions and relevant stakeholders in enacting ordinances in various LGUs to create or strengthen migrant worker resource centers (MRCs) and migration programmes or committees at the local level, and reviewing various laws including RA No. 10361 ("Batas Kasambahay"), expanded anti-trafficking law, expansion of mandatory insurance for OFWs, among others.

According to Lenlen Mesina, Country Coordinator of UN Women, the 5-year programme has been supporting and promoting women migrant’s safe and fair migration in the context of transitions facing and recovering from the pandemic, administration leadership, and the disasters on a constant basis. “UN Women is very pleased to see how policies at global to national level have been adapted and localized, but the completion of this project is something we also hope to sustain when it comes to key actions and promoting consistent implementation of policies and provision of important services needed by women anywhere, they are,” she added.

Since 2019, SAF worked in partnership with the Technical Working Group on C190, as well as the key government departments and tripartite partners in advocating for the ratification of ILO Convention 190, the first international treaty to recognize the right of everyone to a world of work free from violence and harassment. The Senate recently concurred with the ratification of C190 after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s endorsement– making the Philippines the first country in Asia to ratify C190. “This is an important milestone for women and Filipino migrant workers. The C190’s policies will cover any physical, social, emotional, verbal, and even online harassment, and as long as it constitutes any form of violence in the workplace, regardless of your worker status,” Varona shared.

A total of 2,540 women from 4,330 duty bearers improved their delivery of psychosocial, legal, health, or social services, skills development, and reintegration support, among other gender-responsive initiatives, which benefitted 6,403 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families, 4,388 of whom were women. Almost a thousand OFWs including those displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic or their family members (almost 800 are women), have been assisted with technical-vocational scholarships enabling them to earn national skills certification from TESDA.

The migrant resource centers in Negros Occidental and Tabaco City also provided safe migration services to 1,443 women migrant workers. In addition, the Quezon City MRC has assisted more than 1,043 cases up to November 2023.

Carina Cordero, a former migrant worker in Dubai who experienced sexual assault, attested to the responsive and quality services the program could provide when she won a case against her assailant. Upon returning to the Philippines, she dedicated her time to supporting women who experienced violence as an active member of the Center for Migrant Advocacy.

Filipino migrant workers and their families shared their stories in a culmination event in Novotel, Quezon City, where SAF also shared the lessons learned from its implementation with partners from the public and private sectors. The event closed with a cultural show entitled: “Tayo ang Tagahabi ng Buhay Natin”  (We are the Weavers of our Lives) with performances from SENTRO Youth, Talisay City OFW federations, Kabaitan Bautista, Women of Theater, Cooky Chua, and the PETA Choir.

The UN continues to work with different sectors to ensure that women’s needs, whether they are working overseas or in the country, are addressed based on their rights.
