Netflix debuts exclusive content at AsiaPop Comicon 2018

Netflix returned to AsiaPop Comicon Manila 2018 with its biggest presence in three years - featuring an immersive booth, star-studded panels, global announcements and a special screening of upcoming Netflix film Next Gen - all inspired by and designed especially for Filipino fans.

Netflix hosted super-powered panels for over 1000 fans at ‘Hall N’ featuring Marvel’s Luke Cage series star Mike Colter (Luke Cage), joined by showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, and this season’s villain Mustafa Shakir (Bushmaster). Finn Jones, who stars as Danny Rand/Iron Fist on Marvel’s Iron Fist, joined showrunner Raven Metzner (Sleepy Hollow, Falling Skies) to tease season two of the fan favorite.

As part of the NETFLIX❤ANIME panel fans heard from the creatives behind Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle (TOHO producer Takashi Yoshizawa) and Castlevania co-executive producer Adi Shankar, who debuted the season two trailer of Castlevania.

M attended the Hall N session and came out with a happy smile on his face. It seems that fans learned a lot of information from the stars that were there and he got to see the star of Luke Cafe, a Netflix series he has been binge watching for over weeks now.

Bone Thugs and Harmony in Manila

M has been crazy happy about this news. It seems he is a big fan of this group and has been waiting for them to visit and hold a concert. Apparently, his wish has been granted.

Grammy winner Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is scheduled to perform at the Mall Of Asia Arena on September 5, 2018 produced by Ovation Productions. The popular American hip-hop group worked their way into the music industry from the Glenville section of Cleveland, Ohio.

Pinoys reigned at the Reign of Kings

Last night, our Pinoy fighters showed why we are the most resilient race in the world. All 4 Pinoy fighters came out on top of their bouts giving the MMA fans reasons to feel an overwhelming sense of pride.

Catalan started out with a win then Pacio followed with a unique way to make his opponent submit then Folayang showed the crowd that there was definitely a lot more to expect from him. Finally, Bellingon had the crown going when he won against Nguyen, ending Nguyen's dream of owning 3 belts all at the same time.

In the main event of ONE: REIGN OF KINGS, Filipino dynamo Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon derailed Martin Nguyen’s goal to become a three-division world champion by outclassing the ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion with his striking superiority. With his hometown crowd cheering behind him, Belingon effortlessly picked Nguyen apart in the stand-up, jolting the two-division titleholder with stunning left hooks and perfectly-executed spinning back kicks. In the end, all three judges scored the bout in favor of Belingon to win by unanimous decision after an intense five-round affair, bringing home the ONE Interim Bantamweight World Championship.

Kevin Belingon, ONE Interim Bantamweight World Champion, stated: “I can’t explain this feeling, I’m the happiest athlete tonight. Thank you to all the people who came out to support me, and of course to ONE Championship, my team, my coaches and trainers, and my teammates. To Martin [Nguyen], it was an honor fighting you. You’re such a great athlete and champion. I trained very hard for this fight, just to get this belt. I’m proud to be a champion representing the Philippines. My friend Bibiano [Fernandes], I respect him as a champion, but we’re in the same weight class and I’m the top contender. So there is no escape in facing me. I hope you recover fast and we can make the fight this year.”

Hometown hero Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of Baguio City, Philippines turned in another complete performance, earning a unanimous decision win over previously unbeaten Aziz Pahrudinov of Russia. Folayang operated behind a relentless stream of leg kicks that left Pahrudinov hampered throughout the three-round contest. Connecting on his combinations with laser-like precision, Folayang dominated the bout as the three judges sitting cageside awarded him the victory.

Former ONE World Title challenger Joshua “The Passion” Pacio of the Philippines notched his third-straight victory, authoring a spectacular submission victory over rising Thai superstar Pongsiri Mitsatit in the first round. After an emphatic slam to the canvas, Pacio finished the job with a straining armlock, leaving Mitsatit with no other choice but to tap.

Filipino martial arts veteran Rene Catalan emerged as an early crowd favorite, bringing the Mall of Asia Arena crowd to their feet with a rousing performance. Over the course of three rounds, Catalan exhibited dynamic striking, feints, sweeping low leg kicks, and a powerful left hook that had highly-regarded opponent Stefer Rahardian of Indonesia in trouble on multiple occasions. In the end, all three judges scored the bout in favor of Catalan to win by unanimous decision.

I can't wait to see what the rest of 2018 has for our Pinoy fighters. One thing I know is that they have just started. Soon, they will rule MMA.

Voice dubbers at the AsiaPop Comjcon 2018

One of the main highlights of the AsiaPop Comicon is the panel of voice dubbers in the Philippines. I did a photo recap of Day 1 and now, we feature the voice dubbers that has lent their voices to characters we've come to love.

It seems that there is a scarcity of English dubbers. As of the moment, only 20% of the dubbers at present are able to do English dubbing. They also feel that since there's an abundance of job opportunities, the possibility of hosting another workshop to be able to discover new talent has become quite hard.

They do believe that there will be more job opportunities for dubbers in the future especially since we have gone from Chinovela, Mexican soap opera, Kdrama, Jdrama, and the like to dubbing movies as well. This gives our dubbers more opportunity and it also opens the door to newbie dubbers.

Since it's a little bit hard to break into voice dubbing, these 4 experts recommend constant practice and putting yourself out there so you can be noticed. The industry is alive and kicking, you just need to be ready to grab the chance the moment it gets presented to you.

Day 1 at AsiaPop Comicon 2018

The day has finally come and as early as 8am, lines were already seen outside SMX Mall of Asia. It seems that the craze for AsiaPop Comicon has not waned in the last couple of years. Today was also the day that Jollibee first released it's Funko Pop and all 500 units were sold out in less than 2 hours. To be honest, if they could have processed the payment asap, it would have sold out in less than 30 minutes.

After you score yourself this Funko, here are a few things that you can expect. I thought that the Netflix booth was much better last year than this year but I may be biased since I was more familiar with the shows featured last year than this year.

Overall, this is probably one of the most fun Comicon I've been to. Day 2 is still happening and Day 3 is tomorrow so make sure that you head over to SMX Mall of Asia and get your geek on.

PS. I have a Harry Potter bag now. Eeek.

Hawker Chan opens in the Philippines

Finally, authentic Singaporean hawker has made it's way to Manila.

Last year, I was able to visit Singapore and did my coffee tour, Singapore eats, and of course, showcased how IG friendly Singapore is. One of the things that left a mark on me was the hawker food. Cheap, tasty, and accessible, it is found all over Singapore, ensuring that even tourists with small budget can have a taste of everything that Singapore has to offer.

Today, we were lucky to have a bite of Hawker Chan before it officially opens to the public. Can you see how happy I am?

Hawker Chan promises to have the same taste as it's original counterpart. For appetizers, we were given the Fried Tofu with Chili Sauce. The tofu was actually quite tasty since the sweet chili sauce already seeped in. The apple slices helped to take out the bite of the chili and the shallots and peanuts complemented the overall taste.

Hawker Chan Philippines has 4 primary dishes. The Soya Chicken, charsiew, roasted pork, and pork rib.

So we decided to try out all of the dishes so we can give a good verdict. Note that when you do order a two meat sampler or 3 meat sampler, there will be no rice or noodles that will go with it. Ours had it for tasting purposes only.

Okay. Let's do this one by one.

The roast pork is good. The skin is crispy and the meat is tasty. The roast pork, I'm not a fan of. The chicken is delicious albeit a bit oily. It is big though so definitely bang for your buck. The one that I truly loved the most is the char siew. (photos below are from their Facebook Page.)

Roast Pork

Egad! It is delicious especially paired with noodles or rice. I actually finished one entire rice and one entire noodle. Some people said that it's not good but for me, I liked it. It's simple. It's delicious. It's affordable. Check. Check. Check.

Tomorrow is their opening day and they have something for their first 100 customers.

So if you are looking for your next date place and you are on a budget, Hawker Chan is definitely a must try. As I said, it's tasty and affordable.

Olay’s #FearlessAtAnyAge Campaign empowers Women

You can't teach old dogs new tricks!
I'm too old to learn something new.
I'm too old to take risks!
I'm not young anymore. I have to be stable.

These are things you would often hear women in their 30s would say. A survey conducted by Olay Philippines has uncovered that Filipinas are often burdened by the expectations that society puts on them whether they are in their late 20s, 30s or even 40s. These expectations range widely from what she should be doing to who she should be.

These unfair “age-pectations” about their behavior, career and marital status that come with negative comments about their looks, leave Filipinas feeling constantly judged and labeled based on their age.

Among the key findings of the survey is that 69% of women aged 30-39 years old are afraid of the expectations they know will come with aging. About 91% of Filipinas between the same age bracket also receive mean and negative comments about their age.

Another finding is that 83% of Filipinas are pressured to get married by the time they are in their thirties while 93% of them also feel the pressure of being financially independent by their thirties as well.

Genuinely knowing the strain these expectations can bring at every point in their lives, Olay is encouraging women to live their lives in their own terms, no matter their age through its new campaign #FearlessAtAnyAge. With the campaign, Olay wants women to know that no unfair expectation and no age label can limit them or stand in the way of who they want to be or what they want to do.

“I can personally identify with the challenges that many women face on their own personal journeys”, says Chandana Sunder, Olay Philippines Country Leader at Procter & Gamble. “We want women to realize that age is just a number and should not dictate what they can and cannot do. At Olay, we want to encourage women to live life fearless of ageing and any societal expectations that come with it, to not feel restricted by what’s expected of them at a certain age, or limited by what is deemed right ‘at your age’.”

The #FearlessAtAnyAge campaign video entitled 30! So What? captures the life lessons of being fearless by a woman on the brink of a major change in her life at a time when everyone around her expects her to have an established career. Despite the expectations of those around her, the heroine in the video defies all odds and pursues her dreams.

Watch the video on Youtube and learn what it means to be #FearlessAtAnyAge. Olay is committed to encouraging women to overcome these societal expectations and live their life regardless of their age. Join the Olay movement today by sharing the video and your own personal story on social media with the hashtags #FearlessAtAnyAge and #Olay to let other women know that age really is just a number.

Are you ready to be bold with J. Cats?

I've always been the kind of person who goes for nude and safe make up. Maybe it's because I have never been a fan of make up before and now that I have learned to play with it a little, I still try to stay on the safe side because I'm not too good with blending and being bold.

This all changed one night when I attended the JCats #TurnUptheVolume event where everyone was dared to be bolder with their make up look.

J. Cat knows that real beauty comes from within, but what sets J. Cat apart is its ability to help makeup junkies and newbies transform and express all their many facets.
Influencers and celebrities from all over the world have continued to rave about J. Cat and its inventive campaigns. Online stars like Desi Perkins, Michelle Phan, and Tati Westbrook plus big-time celebs like our very own Arci Munoz are fans who love how J. Cat has finally found the perfect way to give high-quality product without breaking the bank.
This year, though, J. Cat invites a bigger and more fearless approach to makeup with its newest campaign called Turn Up the Volume. While their staple products still enable you to nail every and any look that fits your fancy, J. Cat wants you to make 2018 the year you start your new makeup adventure as they give you the tools and inspiration to take charge and have the choice to be as bold as you want.
Turn Up the Volume invites makeup lovers from all walks of life to take a step out of their comfort zone by making their everyday bolder. Whether that’s a new addition of a pop of color on your neutral-shaded lids, a full-blown rainbow lip for your evening out, or a versatile look that will easily transform and take you from day to night with just a few strokes and dabs of daring hues—J. Cat can elevate your go-to looks and dial up the boldness.
J. Cat’s newest campaign underscores the uniqueness within us all and encourages users to let out their inner J. Cat kitten—the undeniable club chic life-of-the-party who isn’t afraid to explore the different volumes of bold beauty that J. Cat beauty can take them to.
Turn Up the Dial with Five Volumes of Beauty
Each of our five MUAs have their own stations. Within these five stations, you’ll get millions of colors, and countless makeup inspirations as a live model gets the full treatment with each makeup artist.
Volume 1- "Pop of Color": At Teena Arches’ station see how you can control the dial on your everyday makeup by learning how to play with those colors that you might normally intimidate you. This look can take you from day to night and will make brown and hazel eyes pop!

Volume 2- "Dare to Sparkle": The 2nd featured MUA, Hanna Pechon will demonstrate how to incorporate glitter into your go-to look. With inspo coming straight from cats with eyes of different hues, this’ll give the windows to your soul a whole new spirit.

Volume 3- "Color Me Bold": With Jherome Ramos will showcase a look based off the J.Cat girls’ essence: the fearless, loud, and bustling life of the party. A play on the some of J.Cat’s greatest hits; a medley of smoky burgundy colors and deep lip shades that’ll be perfect for every night out on the town and out of your comfort zone.

Volume 4- "Hologlam": Katchie Mejias will be dedicated to all things holo! As a nod to the early 70s, this look combines the past with a futuristic twist that is also partly inspired by the multi-dimensional iridescence of the sea.

Volume 5- "Full On Club Chic": Last but not the least, Min Ortiz, see how to nab that mermaid-inspired look that’s been all over the Net, with edgy holographic accents and dark seductive lips that will have you looking beat to the gods!

Each station placed the spotlight on how to use some of J. Cat’s most popular products like; Lipfinity Matte Lipsticks, Eyeshadow Palettes, Liquid Highlighters, Flash Metal, Holo Toppers, Rock Glitz Eyeliners, and many more.

“Forget that makeup is meant to disguise flaws, instead start looking at makeup as a way to highlight your unique personality and creativity,” said Bwelle Madera, president of Bwelle Store Enterprise, Inc., the official distributor of J. Cat in the Philippines. “Why stay stuck in your comfort zone when you can turn up the volume and enter a whole new world of color and self-expression?”
My personal fave was the cat blush and the bronzer. There's just something about bronzers that make you look healthier immediately.
