On the celebration of the golden year of the Department of Tourism (DOT), President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., together with Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and other officials, led the unveiling of the country’s enhanced tourism campaign “Love the Philippines” as the highlight of the Department’s 50th founding year celebration at the iconic Manila Hotel, Tuesday (June 27)
Proudly presenting “Love the Philippines” to a crowd composed of former DOT chiefs, officials and employees of the Department's central and regional offices, heads of government agencies including Cabinet Secretaries, house representatives, tourism stakeholders, and the media, Secretary Frasco described the enhanced campaign as timely for the DOT’s golden anniversary celebration.
“As we cap the last fifty years of the DOT and welcome this new era of tourism for the Philippines, it is but right that we welcome this opportunity to reintroduce the Philippines to the world,” Secretary Frasco said.
“Love the Philippines goes to the very heart of every single Filipino with the distinct grace and hospitality with which we welcome every guest that comes to our shores, our communities, and our homes. Love the Philippines is a recognition of our natural assets, our long and storied history, our rich culture and diversity,” she said while noting that there is so much more to the country than “the fun and adventure” that has so far been articulated.
“The Philippines is a powerhouse of mega biodiversity, being only one of 18 mega biodiverse countries in the world, a deep well of culture and history, a profound burst and taste of flavor and gastronomy, a tapestry of indigenous peoples and creative communities by whose work of their hands have safeguarded the dignity and integrity of the Filipino identity. This is who we are. These complexities and nuances of the Philippines have yet to be fully articulated to the world for indeed, the story of the Filipino has yet to be fully told, and we shall tell that story by telling them the story of love. Love the Philippines,” Secretary Frasco said.

Allow me then to express my sincerest appreciation to Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and for the DOT team, because aside from the promotion of the country’s tourist destinations, the campaign that you have conceptualized aims to enhance the overall experience of every travel, including in that list of targets is to promote regional products, build more infrastructure for the ease of travel, and champion green movements, among others,” the President enthused.
Adjusting to the post-pandemic tourism landscape and changing trends
With the everchanging global tourism landscape post-pandemic, and the growing desire of travelers for more immersive experiences in their travels, the DOT viewed the enhanced brand as a timely response to the demands of the industry.
In a recent survey conducted by the United Nations World Travel Organization (UNWTO) among its member countries, market repositioning, and rebranding strategies are among the priorities identified after the pandemic based on its Survey Findings on Member Priorities for UNWTO program of work 2024-2025.
With an enhanced tourism campaign in tow, the DOT’s focus now is to show more of what there is to “Love the Philippines” as it works towards realizing President Marcos, Jr.’s vision for the country to become a tourism powerhouse in Asia.
“Indeed, if we are to compete with our neighbors in our effort as well to partner with them for Asia to become a powerhouse tourism region in the world, the time has come for us to add to the value proposition of the Philippines by telling the world how much more we have to offer,” Secretary Frasco said.
“We have multiple facets of tourism destinations that present a golden opportunity for we have only scratched the surface thus far,” she added.
Rosy prospects for Philippine tourism
According to Secretary Frasco, the world has “the world has noticed that there is so much to love about the Philippines.”
This, is as the Philippines has recorded 2,641,993 visitors from January 1 to June 26, 2023, and is close to breaching the 2.65 million arrivals it recorded for 2022.
Further, the tourism sector is regarded as a stalwart regarding its contribution to gross domestic product (GDP). According to the 2022 Philippine Tourism Satellite Accounts (PTSA) 2022, the Tourism Direct Gross Value Added (TDGVA) share of the sector to the Philippine economy, as measured by the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), was estimated at 6.2 percent and amounted to PHP 1.38 trillion in 2022.
The Philippines is also seeing a boost in tourism-related enterprise employment, with 5.35 million estimated tourism employment last year.
As she rallied their support for the DOT’s vision of showcasing the best of the Philippines to the world under the Marcos administration, the Secretary said: “As we usher in this golden era for tourism, for our fellow Filipinos, for our beautiful country, let us find it in our hearts to have that burning pride of place for the Philippines, to Love the Philippines, to usher us into the continued recovery and vigorous comeback of the Philippines to the world.”

Innovation at any Cost
A global annual survey of Chief Information Officers (CIOs) by Lenovo reveals that despite economic headwinds and IT budget challenges, the world’s CIOs are optimistic about the capacity of technology to deliver value to their organizations. Despite their confidence, the risks are real: 83% are concerned about insufficient finances to adequately invest in innovation and digital transformation, and nearly half (48%) are "extremely" or "very" concerned.
The second edition of the annual Lenovo Global Study of CIOs found that CIOs (48%) are also more likely to prioritize innovation in new technologies over-optimizing their current tech stack. The stakes are high, with 60% of CIOs reporting that a freeze in investment to innovation would impact their business at once or within weeks across business automation, business model transformation, data analytics, and environment, social, and governance initiatives. Adding to this, 33% of CIOs do not feel their organization is sufficiently resilient.
According to Michael Ngan, Country General Manager of Lenovo Philippines, the role of the CIO has become extremely demanding. “As the technology landscape becomes more complex, it becomes increasingly challenging for CIOs to implement digital transformation across the organization and prioritize initiatives and investments that yield positive business results,” he shared.
It comes as no surprise that CIOs are turning towards “as a Service" (aaS) offerings for their tech stacks. Deploying aaS solutions simplifies and optimizes everything, enabling IT leaders to focus on innovation and be more agile in responding to their organizations’ changing needs. A pay-as-you-go consumption model – from procurement to deployment and management of infrastructure to hardware and licensing – empowers CIOs and IT teams to focus on innovation or more strategic imperatives, a benefit that most CIOs are aware of.
The vast majority (92%) of CIOs are considering adding new aaS solutions to their tech stacks over the next two years. This is on the back of 71% of CIOs who said between 11% and 50% of their IT is currently delivered on an aaS basis. Software aaS, infrastructure aaS, and device aaS are cited by more than half of CIOs as being much or somewhat more used than in the previous year.
Organic and AI opportunities for IT leaders
The analysis revealed two important priorities. The first is the rise of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) as mainstream IT goals, which is boosting innovation ambitions. The second category is people-related opportunities, which are important for a company's success because attracting and maintaining talent is crucial.
AI/ML has quickly become an urgent priority for CIOs as they strive to stay up to date with the rapid pace of technological progress. No less than 43% feel “urgent pressure” to address AI/ML as a priority, only slightly behind cybersecurity (51%). As many as three in five IT leaders also have experienced pressure to further optimize their companies’ operations.
Talent-related responsibilities including recruitment and retention (59%), managing a remote workforce (59%), managing global teams (58%), and diversity, equity, and inclusion (55%) remain significant challenges for CIOs as they expand their role to digitize operations across departments.

Review of Sweet Tooth in BFRV, Las Pinas
A week ago, we ended up checking this little nook inside BFRV, Las Pinas. It's located along BFRV Drive and the yellow signage outside makes it pretty hard to miss.
I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to have something sweet and good. The milk tea, the coffee, the smoothie, and the overall drinks were just a joy to have. Definitely for the sweet tooth.
For those who don't like sweets, don't fret. They also have soda drinks that were really good to have. They also offer snacks so I'd say this is perfect for merienda, brunch, and late-night runs.

Ifugao Learners Get Access to Knowlege Channel
This June, on its 24th anniversary, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc.,(KCFI) extended its reach and services to 40 public elementary and high schools in Ifugao, distributing Knowledge Channel Portable Media Libraries (KC PML) loaded with Department of Education (DepEd) curriculum-based video lessons for different grade levels and subjects.
"We have high hopes that the children of Ifugao will be equipped with the necessary tools to overcome the obstacles of learning poverty, while also experiencing a more engaging and enjoyable schooling journey,” said KCFI president and executive director Rina Lopez.
KCFI has distributed more than 5,000 KC PMLs to schools, child development centers, and alternative learning system (ALS) mobile teachers and community learning centers with the support of more than a hundred partners. It has trained close to 8,000 schools and CDCs to better equip teachers and other care providers of children.
Since 1999, KCFI has remained at the forefront of digital educational resource provision. It is the only educational cross-media seen on-air, online, and offline. Its most recent outputs include ‘Wikaharian’ for grade 2, a video series on culture-based learning of the fundamentals of reading for Filipinos, ‘MathDali Grade 1’ which focuses on the basics of addition, subtraction, coin, and bills, ‘Wow! Leyte!,’ a two-part series for Araling Panlipunan showcasing the natural beauty and wonders of the province, ‘Heroes of Zero,’ a series aimed against bullying, and on teaching digital literacy, and ‘AgriKids,’ a show on agricultural literacy for K-2 learners.
With its current push on early childhood education, KCFI is also set to bring a month-long free webinar of "TalkED: Early Childhood Series” in November to empower parents and educators on how early childhood literacy plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of children.
KCFI is also set to roll out its '25 for 25' campaign that shines the spotlight on 25 educators from Knowledge Channel-connected schools. The aim is to highlight inspiring stories in teaching, learning, and community building fostered with Knowledge Channel through the years.
