5 Tools Every Planner Girl Needs to Have

Anyone who claims that planners no longer have actual use has not met a planner girl. They exist and they have a community.  We exist and yes, we have a big community.

These days, more and more people are slowly becoming more interested in how they can keep their memories or moments intact. This is where becoming a planner girl comes in. You see, planner girls are nost just about noting things down on their planner. It's also a way for them to remember what happened on a certain date.

To do these and more, a planner girl needs to have 5 tools.

1. A Planner

This can either be a digital planner or a manual one. I personally prefer an actualy physical planner over a digital version. For me, there's still something different when you write things down, when you keep little mementos, and when you can actually hold something in your hands. My Happy Planner is my planner soulmate.

2. Pens

It's nice to have colorful pens. They can help you keep track of different things you need to monitor in your life. I normally use green for money matters, red for delayed or urgent things, blue for normal daily tasks, and black for work notes.

3. Printer

It's really important to invest in a good printer when you're a planner girl. This is one of the best ways to save money because you can easily print photos and stickers from the comfort of your home.

You can also easily print little notes and background for mementos if you have a planner at home. I do this a lot and it has saved me countless trips outside. My Canon Pixma G3020 is definitely something that makes plannering easier for me.

4. Stickers

I actually have a cabinet full of stickers and it has been so wonderful being able to use as many as I want to anytime. Mind you that this is not something that I bought overnight but something that I slowly collected over 20 years.

5. Paper Cutter / Trimmer

Having a proper paper cutter makes a big difference. It doesn't seem like it but when you are cutting a lot of things for your journal, it's very important to have one.

I hope that this little guide helped you if you are a planner girl or planning on becoming one. I would definitely recommend becoming one because it's therapeutic and helps to keep things in order. Let me know if you decide to be one. I'd love to read your thoughts.

NutriAsia and Del Monte team up to donate upcycled school chairs under Share-A-Chair initiative

Keeping with its advocacies of helping Filipino communities in need and minimizing the impact of plastic waste, NutriAsia, Inc. and Del Monte Philippines, Inc. partnered together to donate upcycled plastic school chairs to several public elementary schools.

This was done through the Share-a-Chair initiative, a program started by NutriAsia and Del Monte in which the companies collect single-use plastic waste from their different offices and plant sites to turn them into school chairs and other needed furniture for the underprivileged public schools and communities. It is the culmination of the two companies’ partnership forged to help the Department of Education address the perennial shortage of school chairs.

NutriAsia and Del Monte collected 19.3 metric tons of plastic waste from their offices and plants for a period of six months. Part of this collection went to the Share-a-Chair donation of 600 school chairs and teachers’ tables distributed to 12 different partner schools in Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, and Davao that NutriAsia and Del Monte have chosen for the program.

NutriAsia and Del Monte then partnered with Envirotech Waste Recycling, Inc., a local company with ground-breaking technology to upcycle the collected plastic waste into the furnishings. Upcycling is the process of transforming waste and discarded materials into useable items which are Envirotech’s field of expertise.

Through the Share-a-Chair program and their spirit of resourcefulness, NutriAsia and Del Monte aim to continue upcycling plastic waste and creating more school chairs to be donated to various partner schools across the country. This way, the companies can fulfill their goals of assisting underprivileged Filipino communities and reducing the negative environmental impact of plastic.

World Vision: PHINLA Earth Day Forum

After a year since COVID-19 hit the Philippines, the pandemic continues to pose enormous risks and challenges across many levels of society. Waste management is no exception.

Since safety is the topmost priority, people opt to use disposable products as an added layer of protection.

The Philippines has already been recorded as one of the world’s leading waste contributors. Approximately 15 million tons of wastes are generated in the country each year. This figure does not yet reflect the waste generated during the pandemic.

Studies show that billions of face masks, plastic gloves, and disposable personal protective equipment (PPE) sets are being produced and used globally during the pandemic. Unfortunately, many of these end up in waterways, in the oceans, and in open seas.

The waste management problems posed by COVID-19 beset LGUs, many of whom still struggle to implement the provisions of Republic Act (RA) No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

“With total lockdowns and the closure of the majority of business establishments in the country to enforce physical distancing, there was a surge in demand for home delivery services of food and groceries, which has led to an increase in the generation of common packaging plastic wastes,” shared Joben Asuncion, Project Coordinator of PHINLA (Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka) Global Program. “Due to reduced recycling activities as a result of coronavirus outbreak, management and handling of plastic waste have become a huge challenge for the waste management particularly in our communities,” Asuncion added.

Based on the 2018 figures from the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC), there are only more than 10,000 materials recovery facilities in the country catering to the more than 40,000 barangays in the Philippines. These challenges call for more proactive responses not only from the government but from all sectors.

The lingering waste management concerns require intensified education campaigns to raise the public’s understanding that everyone has a role in solving waste management problems. “Education is the key to success and it opens opportunities, making it possible for each of us to contribute to a progressive, healthy and sustainable society. The effects are already visible and will be catastrophic unless we act now,” Asuncion explained.

In helping to achieve this goal, PHINLA, a partnership project of World Vision Development Foundation and EcoWaste Coalition, carries out a series of advocacy campaigns among household members, LGU officials, waste collectors, and students across the country as part of the project’s aim to assist LGUs and other stakeholders to improve waste management systems, livelihood opportunities to waste collectors, and raise the public’s active involvement to address the waste problem in the communities.

“Through waste management education, innovation, and adherence to our commitments, we can make the necessary changes to protect our planet,” Asuncion added.

Earth Day Forum

As part of its advocacy campaigns, PHINLA held an online forum during the Earth Day celebration to showcase how the LGUs of Quezon City, Cagayan de Oro City, and Davao City respond to the ever-present challenge of managing solid wastes, now aggravated by the pandemic.

In the said forum, Cugman, Cagayan de Oro Chairman Wendelyn Escobia shared that the LGU is implementing the "no segregation, no collection" policy and has designated a segregation bin and material recovery facility for collected wastes.

However, garbage collection in their village paused for a while during the implementation of community quarantine. Garbage piled up, and collection was made even more challenging because they were using only one mini dump truck to collect their wastes. As a response, the LGU intensified its information drive about solid waste segregation through house-to-house campaigns. The local government also passed an ordinance for the proper disposal of PPE and encouraged urban container gardening through the help of the bio shredder donated by PHINLA.

“Through the help of PHINLA, our waste collectors in Cugman no longer spend a lot of time segregating wastes because it’s being done already in the household level. The pedicabs and motorbikes donated by PHINLA also made their jobs easier,” Escobia shared.

In Quezon City, several activities are being done to manage the city's solid wastes, including a weekly cleanup drive, tree planting activities, and declogging operations. The city is also implementing the "no segregation, no collection" policy. Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City Chairman Wilfredo Cara said “I would like to thank World Vision, EcoWaste Coalition, and PHINLA for the assistance they provide to our barangay especially in this time of the pandemic.” Through the program, Bagong Silangan received waste collection vehicles, face masks, gloves, and other protective equipment for their waste collectors.

Meanwhile, Chairman Rey Amador Bargamento of Barangay Mintal, Davao City shared that as early as 2013, Mintal has already been intentional in intensifying segregation at source. There was high compliance, but logistic limitations took a toll on their campaign. They had no clear collection schedule and had only one mini dump truck catering to 23 areas.

"When we started, we were lacking knowledge, equipment, and personnel. That's why we are grateful that PHINLA partnered with us. We had training activities already. We have the tools that we need. Our partnership with PHINLA helps us in making segregation at source an ultimate goal in Barangay Mintal. It makes our dream for a clean barangay closer to reality,” said Chairman Bargamento.

PHINLA is set to carry out series of training activities for waste collectors, LGUs household members, and students this year. More units of pedicabs and motorbikes will also be donated to its partner LGUs.

From being the partner of the country’s gifted kids, PROMIL continues its legacy of nurturing child’s gifts with the launch of its first online talent search this April.

Dubbed as “Search for the next PROMIL Kid”, kids will now have a chance to bring into center stage their gifts such as singing, dancing, art, vlogging, podcasting, and more.

“Two years ago, we launched Sheena Bentoy as the new PROMIL Kid. What she has achieved at such a young age is also attributed to her mom, Irish, who has given her unwavering support, love, and has continued to nurture her gift. With our “Search for the Next Promil Kid”, we hope to inspire parents to spot and nurture their child’s gifts because their child, just like Sheena and countless others before her, could be the next PROMIL Kid,” shares Maria Carmela Gabunada, Associate Marketing Director - GPM, Promil Original and Organic for Wyeth Nutrition.

The search is open to moms with children aged 3-7 years old.  All they need to do is go to Promil Four’s official Facebook page (www.facebook.com/promilfour) and click the “Search for the next PROMIL KID” post to sign up.

Once signed up, wait for the confirmation email from PROMIL FOUR with details on the required audition videos and supporting documents to send to promilnurturethegift@gmail.com.

Moms can just use a camera phone to shoot the required virtual video audition from the comfort of their homes and show the world what their gifted kids can do.

Video entries will be judged this May and will go through various levels of eliminations until only the most exciting and exceptionally gifted kid will be crowned the winner and announced as the new Promil Kid.

As the parent’s partner in nurturing their child’s gifts, PROMIL® FOUR is filled with essential nutrients like Lutein, Vitamin C, Zinc, DHA, Choline, Vitamin D, and Calcium. These nutrients can help them learn new gifts, bring out the best in them, and support them from shining at every stage.

UnionBank holds 10th E-TalkTales focusing on ‘People Tech’ advocacy

Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) held its 10th E-TalkTales media event last April 21, wherein the Bank talked about its people-centric digital transformation and how this has helped not only its employees but also external stakeholders in line with the Bank's goal of enabling inclusive prosperity in the country.

UnionBank Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer Michelle Rubio opened the discussion by talking about the Bank's successful digital transformation, which she attributed to its people. She then said that for digital transformation to succeed, organizations must focus more on equipping their workforce with the right skills and helping them become more agile, as this can give them more mileage than just investing in the latest software and equipment.

"Contrary to popular belief, digital transformation is less about technology and more about people. You can pretty much buy any technology but our ability to adapt to an ever more digital future depends on developing the next generation of skills, closing the gap between talent supply and demand, and future-proofing your own and others’ potential," Rubio said.

Rubio underscored the importance of continuously upskilling employees because of the possibility of skill sets becoming obsolete in a few years as a result of the rapid advance of technology, citing a recent study by the multi-national advisory firm Deloitte that reported that many skills are expected to become obsolete in five years and may even continue to shrink as the world becomes increasingly more digital.

"UnionBank continuously upskills employees true to its commitment of growing and developing its talents and the talent community," Rubio said. "Holding on to its purpose of co-creating innovations for a better world, UnionBank was able to forge a strategy that could accelerate talent at any point of interaction with the Bank. This is called People Tech: people at the core, technology at the fore. Aligned to the Bank's purpose of co-creating innovations for a better world, UnionBank focused on People to make the transformation happen."

"People Tech advocates digital delivery to build capabilities and bring it to hyperspeed, allowing accelerated talent development and capability building inside and outside the organization," Rubio added.

In line with its People Tech advocacy, UnionBank has been successfully implementing various programs aimed at equipping people with the necessary skills for them to thrive in the digital workplace. One of these programs is the Xcellerator series, which offers accessible education not only to UnionBank employees but also to anyone outside the Bank who wishes to learn more about topics that are relevant in the digital world. Since introducing the Xcellerator series, the Bank has helped thousands of learners become more knowledgeable in different topics related to digitization, including blockchain, application programming interface, project management, digital marketing, data privacy, coding, and fintech, among others.

"Through Xcellerator, we advocate digital delivery through capability building, so that innovations may happen to ensure no one gets left behind. We 'tech-up' the Philippines by educating and mentoring our community members in emerging technologies, contributing to the higher purpose of co-creating innovations for a better world, possibly opening up opportunities for Filipino tech talents," said Special Projects Head for UnionBank's Fintech Group and Xcellerator Program Lead, Nix Syjuco.

Another highlight of the discussion was UnionBank's numerous initiatives aligned with the People Tech advocacy that have benefitted various external stakeholders, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among these are the GoBeyond Communities initiative, which encourages UnionBank employees to join community-centric activities that are in line with their personal advocacies; the HEROES 2021 initiative in partnership with Thames International School that aims to train educators on how to conduct classes online; and the Climathon Online Ideation initiative which encourages people to help in the creation of solutions that address the most pressing issues today.

Speaking about the Bank's efforts to help enable inclusive prosperity in the country, UnionBank Vice President for Sustainability Dave Devilles said that the goal is to continuously change the way people see technology, and help them realize its potential to create lasting positive impact and how it can be used for the greater good.

"It's really about changing the mindset and moving the behavior, and we have witnessed how UnionBank has evolved from our desire to build capabilities internally, to share these, and to help communities and ultimately our country," Devilles said.

Bayad and Traxion Tech partner to offer fintech solutions for SMEs and cooperatives

Recognizing the need for digital financial services in view of continuing quarantine restrictions and disruptions in business operations due to the ongoing pandemic, the newly rebranded Bayad, the country’s biggest and widest multi-channel payment platform, recently joined hands with Traxion Tech, a blockchain-powered system integration company.

Ultimately, both companies aim to bring financial services closer to marginalized sectors and bridge the digital divide among consumer groups. Bayad is powering the bills payment capability of Traxion Tech’s products such as DigiCoop, a digital platform developed for cooperatives and its members to achieve financial freedom; Baiyarin, a billing and payment platform for billers and consumers; and Traxion Pay, a payment platform for small and medium enterprise (SME) owners aggregating numerous online and offline payment facilities.

Under the partnership, users of DigiCoop products and services will now be able to pay over 1,000 types of bills and have access to Bayad’s extensive network of partner billers. Together, the two institutions endeavor to ensure that the most underserved segments of society get to harness the benefits of transformative technologies. They believe that going digital is the way to weather the ongoing crisis and build resilience for a post-pandemic world.

“This is great news for cooperatives and SMEs. On top of delivering payment convenience and security, we want them to appreciate and get comfortable with fintech solutions and learn how to maximize their full potential.,” Traxion Tech Chief Executive Officer Ann Cuisia shared.

We know it is imperative to ensure business continuity so we are giving them means to digitalize key business aspects and leverage opportunities using online platforms,” said Lawrence Y. 5 fun activities you can do with your doggos at home this summer

With all the anxiety and stress brought about by the pandemic, for many of us, pets have been a huge source of comfort to help endure this challenging time. Although it took a lot of effort to distance ourselves from others totally disrupting what we were used to, the social distance gave way for us to get closer and create more heartwarming moments filled with boops, wet kisses, and playtimes with our furry friends. The care and attention we give them during this new normal is our simple way of reciprocating the unconditional love they give us throughout their life.

Here are five fun examples if you’re looking for activities to do at home with your pupperino, woofer, or floofer this summer:

1. Set up an obstacle course. Active dogs will surely love the thrill of a homemade obstacle course. Set one up using pillows, furniture, boxes with both sides open, and laundry hampers to create tunnels and jumps. Put their favorite treats around the course so they are encouraged to explore.

2. Paint with your doggo. If your doggo is more on the chill side, organize a relaxing painting session with them. Get your dog involved by using their pawprint to create shapes, like flowers. Simply dip their paw in paint then press it down your canvas of choice. Add some stems to make it look like a bouquet. Hang it up or stick it to a wall to add a personal touch to your home. Just make sure to use non-toxic paint and wash it off immediately.

3. Create a scrapbook for them. Any furparent will surely have dozens of photos of their doggos on their phone. Immortalize your memories by creating a scrapbook. All you’ll need are a scrapbook, a portable printer, and accessories like stickers, washi tape, ribbons, and more. You could have a theme, such as a timeline of their growth, or photos from your favorite trips.

4. Make pupsicles. Even dogs can feel the summer heat so cool them down with pupsicles! Make sure that the ones you give them are dog-friendly. Some easy variants include Greek yogurt and berries, watermelon and pineapple, and peanut butter, banana, honey, yogurt, and blueberries. Simply add the ingredients to an ice tray, freeze, and let your doggos enjoy.

5. Pool party! Cool them down by having a pool party! Get a tub, fill it up with water, add their favorite toys, and let them enjoy splashing around.

To make sure your dogs are ready for any kind of activity, give them the right and proper diet. Maxime is a premium dog food brand that contains all the essentials, such as pre and probiotics, DHA, and Omega 3 and 6 so doggos are happy, active, tough, and smart.

Maxime is available in both adult and puppy formulas containing vitamins and minerals vital for strengthening your doggos immune system, making their coat shiny, and increasing their vitality. Both Maxime Adult and Maxime Puppy are made with highly digestible ingredients and prebiotics for easy digestion and yummy taste for your best furriend.

Meanwhile, Maxime Elite Puppy and Adult variants are made even better with higher levels of prebiotics, antioxidants, and Omega 3 and 6 making them even happier, more active, stronger, and smarter dogs. The Elite variant also contains Yucca extract to help pawrents manage their doggos’ stool odor and even help your doggos reduce possible food allergies. Maxime Elite Puppy is further fortified with DHA to give puppers the boost they need to better absorb nutrients and aid in their brain development.

This summer, Maxime is adding more sizzle and fun to the season as they are turning one. Pawrents, doggos, puppers, floofers, and woofers are invited to join in the fun and celebrate living the best life together with Maxime’s Birthday Celebration packed with promos, sales, activities, and surprises

Messy Bessy's Shop Green Campaign on Shopee

People who know me know that I have become somewhat of a neat freak. I was never messy but I wasn't too much a neat freak. However, 2020 changed that along with becoming a Mom to a newborn the second time around.

Now, it's all about keeping things clean and orderly. This is why it's important to get the right products that not only clean surfaces but are also safe for my one-year-old who loves licking everything right now, including floors and tables.

For my table and my son's stuff, I use Messy Bessy because it is eco-friendly and safe to use. It doesn't have strong scents or harsh disinfectants so I don't worry so much if my son accidentally licks a surface in our room.

I love that when I clean, there's a natural nice odor that comes from the product and not some harmful scent. I also love that it really does the job of cleaning the stuff that I use it on.

Messy Bessy also uses sustainable products so I can reuse the packaging that it comes with. It is a line of plant-derived home and personal care products. They also support Filipino at-risk youth.

Their home and personal care products are free from harmful toxins and chemicals that are bad for your nose and lungs. They are plant-derived, friendly to you, your family, and even pets! Their disinfectants and sanitizers have the US CDC-recommended levels of sugarcane (ethyl) alcohol that fight microbes!

The microphobe in me is very, very happy.

Celebrate Earth Day by buying sustainable products and eco-friendly alternatives from Messy Bessy in Shopee's Shop Green campaign! From April 19 to 25,  get up to 25% off on selected eco-friendly products!
