3 Things I Learned about Underwear and being a Mom

A few weeks ago,  I was able to get my hands on Avon's Body Illusion Underwear which promised to be seamless and would feel like second skin. I immediately gave it a try and it really does feel a lot different from the normal underwear I have tried on in the past.

A few key differences are the lack of wire and clip on straps that cut through your skin. Ladies, you know what I'm talking about. It cuts through your skin and you are left feeling like being tied the whole day and you just feel helpless because you can't take off your bra in the middle of the day while you're out and about so you suffer.

Another one is that this bra absorbs sweat but doesn't make you feel sticky. Living in a tropical country, it can be very irritating if your bra ends up wet and sticky and you still have meetings to go to. Thankfully, this absorbs body sweat easily and seems to instantly dry it up.

The last one is that it does feel like second skin. It doesn't make an appearance if you're wearing a thin top or skirt that hugs your body. There's no visible panty line and you can freely move without worrying that everyone can see your panty through what you are wearing.

In the last two weeks, I have been having a silent debate whether to post a photo like the ones above and my main struggle is my son. You see, I have a 13 year old son and I need to consider his well being when I post something.

He has classmates that sometimes pick on him because they think I'm some sort of a minor celebrity and if I pose in underwear, they might use it against him. This is just real talk guys. I know that ideally, kids should be understanding and kind but let's face the harsh reality.

Teenagers can oftentimes be the most cruel and so I chose not to give these kids further ammunition. I think that learning to choose my battles when it comes to posting on social media and the like is the mature decision.

What I can show you is this video though of me in an event where I wore the bra and panty from AVON's Body Illusion line. As you can see, I had an awesome time and did not have a care in the world because I was able to move freely and not worry about my undies.

So what are the 3 things I learned?

1. Always pick the right clothing, starting off with your underwear. You don't need to go with the times because the classics will always work and these underwear from AVON Body Illusions will definitely be a classic.

2. Choose your battles. Know your priorities. This time around, my being a Mom won and when my being a Mom wins, everyone wins.

3. When you know what matters most, making the right decision will always be easy to do. The process of getting there might be hard but the final decision will lift a burden from your heart.

AVON vows to help End Violence Against Women

A woman can easily fall prey to an abusive man regardless of how powerful, beautiful, and successful she is. Predators need to be spotted a mile away which is why I wrote about the 5 Red Flags any woman should be aware of.

I know these because I have fallen victim to being abused physically, mentally, emotionally, and psychologically not one but TWICE.

Even with a lot of warning signs, violence continues to affect millions of women around the world – we have witnessed it, and some of us may even have experienced it. In the Philippines, harassment cases continue to rise alarmingly, and are not at all limited to the physical kind of abuse.

Take a look at these numbers: 1 out of 4 married Filipinas have experienced abuse from their partners; 3 in 5 Filipinas have been sexually harassed in their lifetime; while online harassment has victimized mostly women aged 15 to 35.

With the international community celebrating Women’s Month, Avon Philippines, a company that has long supported women’s causes, renews its Promise to Help End Violence Against Women and Girls, as part of the company’s recently launched global plan Stand4Her, which aims to improve the lives of 100 million women by advancing their earning potential, freedom of expression, and ability to live a safe and healthy life.

Ruffa Gutierrez and her daughters Lorin and Venice Gutierrez are serving as celebrity ambassadors for the campaign, helping shine a light on the different forms of abuse, and encouraging everyone to join the crusade against violence through their own stories.

In a series of online videos by Avon Philippines, Ruffa and her daughters share their personal experiences and insights on catcalling, online harassment, and abusive relationships – encouraging women to stand up for each other and to never tolerate such behavior.

As part of the Promise to Help End Violence Against Women and Girls, Avon has also created the limited edition Free as a Butterfly jewelry set to help fund partner NGOs that empower abused victims and survivors through support, guidance, and inspiration with proceeds of the collection sales.

Available starting March through an Avon representative or online at http://www.avonshop.ph for P299. This purchase for a purpose gives P50 from each sale to the programs of partner organizations, which positively impact the lives of hundreds of Filipino women.

If you’re experiencing abuse or suspect someone who is, contact any of Avon Philippines’ partner NGOs: Luna Legal Resource Center for Women and Children in Davao at (082) 306-5761, Gender Watch Against Violence and Exploitation (GWAVE) in Dumaguete at (035) 422-8405 or 0915 259 3029, Women’s Care Center, Inc. (WCCI) in Manila at (02) 514-4104 or 0999 577 963, and Ing Makababaying Aksyon (IMA) in Pampanga at (045) 323-4750.

Keep the promise to end violence against women and girls — and speak up to support the cause. Learn more about Avon’s promise to end violence against women and girls, and join us as we make a stand for women today by checking out this video: http://bit.ly/Avon-End-VAWG.

7 Ways to Save Money on Lazada's Biggest Online Shopping Party

As you know, one of the things that I have been advocating on my blog has been growing your money. I've shared tips on how you can save money as well as shared tips on how you can stop shopping incessantly.

However, there are things that we do need to buy and thankfully, Lazada makes things a lot easier for us so this time around, I am sharing 7 ways that you can save money and maximize your spending capacity during Lazada's biggest online shopping party.

Tip # 1 - Buy only what you need.

Even if items are on sale, if you don't really need it, then you are not saving money.

Tip # 2 - Buy by the bulk. Items such as cat litter, cat food, and other consumables tend to be cheaper when you purchase by the bulk. Also, during the biggest online shopping party, further discounts will be given so you get to save more!

Tip #3 - Double check if items you need to buy at the store are available through Lazada. SM, Pet Express, Maybelline, L'Oreal all have official stores in Lazada so you can just purchase it directly. There is no need to go out and spend on gas, commuting fee, as well as parking.

As a Mom, this is such a huge convenience for me because I tend to juggle so many balls in life.

Tip # 4 - A lot of stores offer free shipping when you meet te minimum amount required. Check the stores you are buying from and see if they are offering anything else that you would need so you can avail of the free shipping.

Tip # 5 - Shop your Stash and then buy the toiletries and make up you would need for the rest of the year during the sale. This allows you to maximize everything and avoid being swayed by offers that would come later on. When you know exactly what you have, you will not be tempted to get more than what you already have, only what you need.

Tip # 6 - Be first. When the sale starts at 12 midnight on the 27th of this month, make sure that the items you already want to purchase are already added to your cart. Refresh and then check out. The discounts are automatically applied and you can be guaranteed that you wouldn't miss out on the biggest online sale.

Tip # 7 - Partner Discounts

Shop with your BDO Visa card and get up to Php 5,000 off on LazMall gadgets.
Pay with GCash and PayMaya for instant discounts on quick purchases.
Be the first in the country to purchase real estate online! Revolution Precrafted and Robinsons Land will be giving their reservation fees at 50% off on March 27 only.
Get a chance to win travel packages care of Sunlife.
Win yourself a discount voucher when you play Lazada’s very own Facebook game called Over Easy: Laz Edition.
Get a free Shakey’s pizza when you shop on March 27.
Don’t forget to download the Lazada 7th Birthday Sticker pack on Viber.

Tune in as well on March 26 and witness the in-app livestreaming of the “Super Party” concert as Grammy and Brit Awards winner and British popstar Dua Lipa shares the stage with some of Southeast Asia’s brightest stars, including the Philippines' “Multi-Media Princess” Nadine Lustre, “Absolute Performer” Sam Concepcion and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.

With all these celebration and perks, it’s really going to feel like it’s your birthday instead! Double Burden of Malnutrition: Malnutrition Traps

One of the things that has started to become a worry of mine when I started working from home and supervising my son's breakfast habit was the lack of it. I realized that when I was busy working and relied on the help to prepare his food early in the morning, he would choose not to eat.

I talked to him and told him of the importance of breakfast and why it matters. This video validates that concern of mine but sadly, there are still a lot of students out there who do not eat breakfast; some because of lack of budget while others, do not realize that it's important.

The country has been facing the rise on the number of underweight and overweight Filipinos for more than 20 years.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defined this phenomenon as the “Double Burden of Malnutrition” or the “prevalence of both undernutrition and overweight in the same community, nation, or region.”

To address this problem, our government launched the Pinggang Pinoy® campaign in 2014. Pinggang Pinoy® is an easy-to-understand food guide showing proper food group portioning on a per-meal basis. This reflects the principles of MOderation, VAriety and BAlance (MOVABA) to promote healthier eating habits.

Solving the Philippines’ Double Burden of Malnutrition should be a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors as it is not an easy feat. With this, Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation partnered with government agencies to conduct education programs to raise awareness and promote the practice of Pinggang Pinoy® in malnutrition hotspots, where incidences of
Double Burden Malnutrition are high. This training was given to homemakers/mothers who have malnourished (underweight, stunting, wasting, overweight and obese) school-aged children.

The pilot run resulted to improvements of the knowledge; attitudes of households related to the practice of Pinggang Pinoy® within target areas. However, behavior changes towards healthier eating habits remains to be a challenge. The program uncovered a number #MalnutritionTraps that some Pinoy households easily fall into. The following #MalnutritionTraps

To provide a picture of how unhealthy eating habits may lead to Double Burden of Malnutrition:

1. Overconsumption of carbohydrates: Voracious rice eaters can easily fill half of their plates with rice. Others have pandesal noodles as regular meal deprived of other nutrients derived from a well-balanced meal.

2. Under consumption of vegetables and/fruits: It is common for some to be content with rice; meat to satisfy their hunger and skip/take insufficient amount of vegetables/fruits. Fact is, the variety of colors found in Glow foods are important sources of vitamins & minerals to sustain our energy; keep us from getting sick.

3. Overconsumption of protein: Typical Filipino “SILOG” meals include double serving of proteins (e.g. Tapa+Itlog, Tocino+Itlog, Longanisa+Itlog, Bangus+Itlog). Eating different kinds of protein is fine for as long as they are taken in moderation. We must also avoid protein dishes served high in fat, cholesterol and sodium.

To help Filipinos break free from #MalnutritionTraps, Ajinomoto’s Culinary Nutrition Team prepared Healthy & Delicious Pinggang Pinoy® Recipes, downloadable through https://bit.ly/2HIsfkj.

Busy and budget-restricted homemakers will also find these Pinggang Pinoy® recipes useful because all are easy-to-do and affordable (P250/day for family of 5).

Trinoma welcomes the 2019 Lamudi Housing Fair

Summer is already here and the sun is not the only thing that is sizzlin!

Lamudi, the country’s number one real estate platform, is once again holding a series of housing fairs which will kick off this April 6 to 7, 2019 at the Trinoma Activity Center. This year’s Trinoma Housing Fair is Lamudi’s first housing fair for 2019 and is set to offer an extensive selection of property offerings from some of the country’s biggest industry players such as SMDC, Amiya Raya, Taft Properties, Robinsons Communities, and more.

The real estate platform held its most recent housing fair in Cebu last year, where 23 exhibitors from real estate, banking and financial industries, and several key government agencies showcased their property offerings and auctions, services, exclusive discounts, as well as the Lamudi Academy Training sessions.

Trinoma as a gold mine of prospective property buyers

The mall sits on a strategic location within Quezon City where a ceaseless economic activity can be found. With an average of 200,000 of daily foot traffic, Trinoma is one of the busiest malls in the country, allowing for the two-day event to instantly capture a diverse pool of shoppers and potential buyers and investors.

Trinoma is also accessible from nearby business districts such as Caloocan, San Juan, and Mandaluyong, making it a viable location in capturing professionals from these cities. Similarly, its proximity to the North Luzon Expressway provides an easy gateway for potential buyers from provinces such as Bulacan, Pampanga, and Tarlac.
What to expect in Trinoma Housing Fair 2019
Attendees and exhibitors of the two-day event can enjoy a host of benefits.
For one, speakers and industry experts will give interested property buyers various home buying seminars to guide them in the right direction. This is something first-time buyers will find most beneficial.
On top of this, there will be exclusive property discounts from developers and freebies for attendees. Foreclosures are also available for aspiring real estate investors, as they can serve as good investment starters. Some of these properties will also be auctioned off at affordable price points.
For real estate professionals participating in the Trinoma Housing Fair, Lamudi is offering free online real estate marketing seminars to help brokers and agents grow their real estate business as conducted by the instructors of Lamudi Academy.
“These housing fairs are important since these are where property developers, brokers, and buyers converge and find immediate value from each other,” Lamudi CEO Bhavna Suresh said of the Lamudi Housing Fair.
“This year, we plan to make them bigger and better so as to deliver better results to all our partners, exhibitors, and the property buyers wherever the Lamudi Housing Fair will come next, specifically Glorietta, SM Cebu, and MOA. Trinoma will set us off to a great start.”

4 People who NEED the Zenfone Max M2

With so many phones being launched left and right, it can get quite confusing as to which phone fits whom. After all, we buy phones based on what we need it for and how it will serve us in the long run. This is why in this write up, I will not be talking about the specs and what not of the Zenfone Max M2. Instead, I will tell you about the 5 types of people who need the Zenfone Max M2 in their life and how having this phone can make their life so much better.

The Social Media Maven

If you are one of those Filipinos who check their phone at least 150x a day (mind you that this is the average) then you need the Zenfone Max M2. With 4000 mAh battery life, this phone can withstand your incessant need to check for notifications, new messages, tweets, posts, and likes.

You see, when you constantly check your apps, it uses a lot more battery life and if your battery is not the same as the battery life of the ASUS Zenfone Max M2, your phone's juice can easily dry up. Even with a power bank, it will be a hassle having to lug the power bank and cord around.

In my experience, this phone can last 3/4 of the day without needing to be recharged and that's with at least 14 apps running all at the same time. Pretty impressive if I may say so.

The Newbie Gamer

If you are just a beginner in gaming, the Zenfone Max M2 will be absolutely perfect for you. The 6.3 all screen 19.9 HD+ Vivid Display is more than enough screen for you to be able to hone your skills in playing Mobile Legends and other games that will pique your interest.

We all know how important a big screen is when playing mobile games which is why the Zenfone Max M2 is the perfect partner for newbie gamers.

The Binge Watcher

If you are the kind of person who watches or streams on their mobile phone, then this phone is perfect for yo. The powerful high-quality audio is meant to entertain you. Imagine being able to watch your favorite show while having an mazing audio experience via 5-magner speakers with metal voice coil and NXP low distortion smart amplifier.

Ugh.

I'd love nothing more than that while watching The Walking Dead or Kingdom.

The Mobile Photographer and Videographer

With advanced AI Scene Detection, you can concentrate on the subject, and get perfect shots every time. This automatically detects the scene or subject and optimizes the photo settings, giving you a simpler, smarter way to capture and share every magical moment.

This means that you can easily whip out your phone and expect to catch the perfect shot. You can also take great videos and easily stitch it together to upload on Facebook, YouTube, or even LinkedIn. It's so easy to hone your skills when you have an amazing phone that won't let you down.

Truly the Zenfone Max M2 is the perfect Battery King. Even if you are on a tight budget, you an easily snag one because this baby sells for only Php8,995. Definitely a Powerhouse King with budget price points.

5 Ways to Grow Your Money

10 years ago, I was broke and in debt. I couldn't afford to send my son to school and I had debts in my name amounting to more than 300k because I trusted the wrong person.

5 years ago, I made the choice to do freelance work. It was a leap of faith but it was a choice that I made for my health and for what I was hoping would be financial stability.

2 years ago, I started to learn ways to save money. Finally, I had enough saved that I could afford to contribute to our Hong Kong family vacation. I could also afford to send my son to school and pay off his tuition fee in one go.

However, it wasn't enough. I would always feel like money just passed by and that it appeared when needed. I needed something more stable. Something better.

Last year, I started monitoring all of my spending. I would list down in a notebook all of the things I spent my money on. It did not matter if it was just Php5. It went on my list.

At the end of the month, I would list down everything in an excel file and then calculate how much I spent. End of the year, I was shocked to see that I have spent so much on miscellaneous things, things that I don't even remember anymore.

I WAS APPALLED.

This year, I started my most ambitious project on how I can save money. I decided that I will do 5 steps.

1. NO BUY YEAR. This means that I will only buy what is essential especially when it comes to skincare and make up which I already had tons of. When you do a no buy year, you set rules and boundaries that you need to follow. Shopping your stash is also a must!

2. INVISIBLE 50 Challenge. Every time I received Php50, it goes straight to Miss Piggy, the coinbank.

3. Paluwagan. I joined a weekly saving scheme in our home. We will give a fixed amount weeky and by the 3rd week of December, we will be given back our money.

4. Always balance my checkbook. This is crucial because a balanced checkbook is a testament to being able to handle and track your finances.

5. Investment and Insurance. I finally got my first ever insurance/investment plan and I even got to convince my 18 year old sister to invest as well.

It took me 38 years to finally have a grasp on how to grow and handle my finances but I am glad that I finally did. I think this is one of those cases where it's better late than never.

dOTERRA, an intro to Essential Oils

I've seen people that I know get into esential oils. They even have a term for it, "oilbularyo" which is a play on the word albularyo which is all about traditional healing without the use of modern medicine.

My family and I, we believe in traditional healing methods. As much as possible, we don't go to the doctor to get a checkup unless it's absolutely needed but essential oils initially failed to make an impression.

I guess this could be because my first bout with essential oils have been the watered down versions or the ones where it's already been mixed together so much that the effects were not that strong. For whatever reason, I couldn't understand before why people were going gaga over essential oil.

Fast forward to 2019 and I've been doing research on slow living as well as the art of hygge which is all about being cozy and in the moment. I've realized that candles are a thing and essential oils are also truly a thing.

My interest was piqued.

When I received an invitation to learn more about dOTERRA essential oils, I immediately said yes. Finally, I was going to understand how essential oils worked, why it works, and if it can really change my life for the good.

This is their AromaTouch Technique Kit. I was able to try all these and I can tell you it is heaven. However, they do have a starter kit as well.

This one contained Lavander, Lemon, and Peppermint.

Now, what are the benefits of Essential Oils?

First of all, it is 100% Natural which means that it is safe. It is also more effective than a lot of medications that are available over the counter. There's no side effects and it can work in as fast as 22 seconds.

If ingested or applief topically, it only takes 2 minutes to get into the bloodstream and to penetrate the cell. In 22 minutes, it works on your entire body. Best part? This is also cheaper than traditional medical care.

There are 3 ways to use it: Aromatic which means you can diffuse it and simply smell for it to work, topical which means you can simply put it in the affected area or swipe on your forehead or other body parts, and internal which means it can be ingested. Make sure to always read the label so you know which is which.

Now I was lucky to take home and try some of the essential oils. I figured that I owe you guys to experience this first hand and try it out for a couple of days so I can do a better review and here are my thoughts.

ON GUARD

As one of doTERRA's most popular oils, doTERRA On Guard is a powerful proprietary blend that supports healthy immune function* and contains cleansing properties. I loved the smell of this. For some reason, it's effect on me is to make me feel more pumped up. Healthy and energetic.

LAVANDER

I tried this for 3 straight days. The effect of this oil on me is to make me sleepy in less than 30 minutes. Seriously. It knocked me out cold and it was just really impressive how it worked out.

PEPPERMINT

I loved the smell of this but then again I love anything minty. This oil is also good for digestion problems, clearing one's breathing if you are having a hard time due to cough and cold, and the best part for me is it repels bugs naturally.

I was also able to try out MOTIVATE and it was like MAGIC. I am telling you, I went from sleepy to energized and alive, ready to battle work. It was the weirdest thing because it was like I had an on and off button and the moment I got a whiff of this oil, I was ready to go to work.

I still have a few more that I will be trying out in the next coming days and weeks but I can officially tell you that now that I have met dOTERRA, they will be a permanent fixture in my life.

If you have any ailments and are taking medicines for it, do yourself a favor and give essential oils a try. You have nothing to lose anyway. If it doesn't work for you, you can always go back to western medicine but if it does, you will be doing yourself a huge favor.

I cannot wait for dOTERRA to officially launch in the Philippines this May. We need this in our life.

Sundates with M: Vista Mall Cinema + Hair Clips

My original plan for the weekend was to just laze around and do nothing. I was able to achieve it on Saturday but at night, I was kidnapped by my friend coz she wasn't feeling too good about her work. Since she is the friend I also bother when I'm not in the best mood, I obliged.

Sunday, I had visions of doing absolutely nothing save for watching a series and diamond painting.  This was not meant to be because the boyfriend wanted to watch Captain Marvel.

I'm not really a huge fan but I obliged because for reasons unknown, he does not like watching movies on his own. Go figure. Meanwhile. I've learned to do this on my own way back and I really hope he eventually learns as well.

I love that the leg room of Vista Mall is so big. It's really comfortable, unlike other cinemas which is why M and I prefer it.

I can even stretch my legs and not bump into the seat in front of me.

After watching, we went around looking for hair clips. It's become my thing and I'm glad that M is the patient kind of boyfriend. He literally just went around with me to go and look for some hair clips.Thankfully, we found some.

We ended up grabbing an early bite at his favorite chicken place, Wings and Dip because he was craving for some fried chicken. We also had to go home early because he needed to be up by 2am for an assignment out of town.

I love weekends spent with M as well as my family. I think that's what weekends are supposed to be like.

Rare Food Shop

With traffic so horrible these days, the need for more delivery at home service is on the rise. Most people have groceries delivered while others focus on milk tea. However, when you're a Mom like me, you know that having meat delivered can be tricky at times.

This ends with having to go to the groceries just to be sure that the meat that you get will be fresh all the time. Well, not anymore.

Rare Food Shop is an online delivery store that guarantees fresh meat and seafood will be delivered to your doorstep. For delivery time and other things, you can also visit this FAQ page.

I ordered salmon, oysters, and steak.

The salmon was really fresh. It's pre-sliced and tasted really sweet. It was definitely worth the price.

I also ordered scallops which is a favorite of mine. I was so happy that this one turned out to be really fresh as well.

I dried it and made sure that it wasn't retaining water.

Then I seasoned it with salt and pepper.

After 2.5 minutes on each side, this is the end result.

My Mom also cooked the steak in a slightly different manner but it turned out really good as well. The taste was just amazing.

And here is our final meal. Though this was a home cooked meal, it felt like we were dining in a fancy restaurant because everything was first class in terms of taste and freshness.

It felt so good to have a meal like this without having to go out.
