Fet Boys introduces the First Ruby Chocolate Cookie

Chef Kirk Ngo of Fet Boys is indeed a trailblazer. After making the first-ever Coffee Butterscotch Cookie, he is now launching his newest creation, the Prettier than Pink Cookies. This is the first Ruby Chocolate Cookie in the Philippines and it is gorgeous!

Derived from Ruby Chocolate, the Prettier than Pink cookie is the first of its kind. Ruby Chocolate is the 4th type of Chocolate that is accepted as "real chocolate." This is derived from Ruby Cacao beans which gives it its natural pink color.

What makes Ruby Chocolate unique is its taste characterized by fruity notes and a pink color which is all-natural. After Dark, Milk, and White chocolate, Ruby is the newest chocolate in the market and it is about to become the next big thing.

In 2020, Chef Kirk of Fet Boys launched his Too Much Chocolate Chip Cookies that were as big as a regular guy’s palm and it was a hit. In the last quarter of 2020 alone, he made over 5000 pcs of his giant creation.

He also invented the Coffee Butterscotch Cookie which was an instant hit with all the coffee lovers because it is best when paired with their favorite morning drink, a cup of joe. However, what truly sets apart the Fet Boys cookie is that it is best eaten chilled. Unlike other cookies that are tastier when heated, the Fet Boys cookies are even better after being chilled in the ref.

on learning to truly let go, loving oneself, and waiting for God's best

Paubaya.

Let Go.

I watched Moira's new MV for her song Paubaya and it reminded me so much of my past loves. Men that I thought loved me but simply needed me. Men that used me but made me think that they loved me. Men that were wrong from the very beginning but I thought I could make right.

It didn't.

They just needed me.

They just used me.

They were just wrong.

When you love someone that's wrong for you, it will always be a struggle. There will always be fights that you just can't seem to fix. There will always be doubts that you will try to squash.

It will always take so much time. It will always feel like "I need to do this" vs "I want to do this." It will always be a feeling of "you and me against the world" instead of "the world celebrates our love." It will always be "why am I doing more, why am I hurting more, why am I feeling more?"

You see, when love is wrong, even the Universe will conspire against you. When it's not God's will, no amount of praying will help. I know because I have prayed so hard to God before. I prayed I begged, I threatened, I begged some more to make this guy the right one, to make him love me, to make him choose me. I begged and prayed and begged and prayed and still, nothing.

I lost the guy. I got my heart broken into a million pieces. I cried buckets of tears.

And so I let go. I had no choice really. Every single time, it was either the guy was never really there from the start or has left without fair warning. So I let go. I had to.

It wasn't easy. Sometimes, it took years. I would play scenarios in my head. What if I did this? What if I had done that? What if, what if, what if?

Then, I truly let go.

I let go of my constant quest to be loved and started learning to love myself.

It was hard.

I was so DAMN hard.

I didn't know where to begin. I even asked people, "how do you love yourself?"

I didn't know how to but I started by taking baby steps.

I did things I wanted to do. I laid in bed and did nothing. I watched that series I have always wanted but never had the chance because my partner didn't like it. I wore that dress I wasn't allowed to. I took that hobby I have always wanted to pursue but couldn't because it took up too much time.

I wore makeup just because. I didn't wear makeup because I didn't want to. I spent time with friends. I spent time with family. I spent time with ME. I did things with ME. I nurtured ME.

I forgot about finding the one. I forgot about needing to have someone. I forgot about the eternal quest of having someone to complete me and I completed myself.

I became whole.

Then I met him and though there were struggles, it was easier too.

It was easier to hold on. It was easier to fight for. It was easier to forgive. It was easier to choose each other every single day. Even in our darkest moment, it was easier to remember why we wanted this to work.

That's how I knew this was it! He was God's best for me.

It took 40 years but I finally found God's best and it only happened because I let go of the men who didn't love me, the men who didn't want me, the men who only needed me, and the men who only used me.

I let go.

I loved myself

and I waited for God's best.

Now, I have him and I am never letting go again.

Khali turned ONE

My youngest child turned one yesterday. This marks the end of his being a baby and now, he steps into the world of toddlerhood. I feel like I am not ready which is silly really.

He used to want to be lulled to sleep. I would hate the nights where he would want me to dance and sway and hold him in my arms till he falls asleep. Now, I do that and he squirms like a worm wrapped in salt. He just wants to lie down, toss and turn, then fall asleep.

I miss holding him in my arms and lulling him to sleep. Weird right?

Yesterday, he turned one and we had a small celebration. We were lucky enough to book an entire restaurant to hold our big families.

We had a Coco Melon themed party because he loves Coco Melon.

Weird enough, it was quite hard to look for Coco Melon party stuff. I thought that there would be more because kids love it and would definitely have this theme for their birthday parties but it wasn't the case. Thankfully, we found a few from different stores (we scoured 9!) and so we managed to have a few decent Coco Melon items.

I was happy that my family was there save for my two siblings who are in Singapore and Cebu. We had fun the whole afternoon and the food was overflowing. My best friend from high school also surprised me.

It was a day full of love, fun, laughter, and no drama which is how I wanted things to be. The only surprise of the day was when Khali decided to throw his party hat at the cake soon as we finished singing Happy Birthday!

As always, the food at BIWON was superb. Their belly platter is simply one of the best that you can ever have in a Korean restaurant.

I am also very grateful to the staff because they helped in decorating the place. Till the next one, this is my son Khali, saying goodbye to being a newborn and welcoming being a toddler with a bang!

I love you anak.

Welcome the Year of the Ox with Yee Sang Prosperity

The Year of the Ox is slowly creeping in and as with anything, we all hope that this year will be the year to end the misfortune associated with the year 2020. To help usher in more luck, celebrate the Chinese New Year with Yee Sang.

Yee Sang, also called Yu Sheng, is a dish served during Chinese New Year. This dish symbolizes good fortune, good luck, wealth, abundance, health, and all things auspicious!

The Yee Sang comprises a refreshing mix of veggies, crisps, peanuts, sesame seeds & our premium cut salmon. Enjoy this with our homemade signature plum sauce for that added ooomph!!! Toss as high as you can, say your wishes out loud & enjoy!

Just make sure that the salmon you order is very fresh because it is the most important of Yee Sang. This is why I only order from Salmon HQ. They are tried and tested over and over again when it comes to freshness. Their salmon is always top of the line and melts in your mouth kind of freshness.

For anything that has salmon on it, no one can top Salmon HQ so make sure you reserve your slot now for the Chinese New Year.

PS. You can also order their salmon cake that currently comes in the shape of a heart. It's so kawaii!

Tara?

Review of Sumo Niku in SM Southmall

It was the first time that we ate out since we got married last month. We were on one of our errands when we chanced upon this place. Since we were hungry already, we decided to go and check out the place. Thankfully, there weren't a lot of people inside.

I loved that the place was quite spacious. Nowadays, this is quite important as there needs to be proper social distancing especially when outside. There's also more than enough ventilation because there was absolutely no sign of smoke present in the restaurant.

They also have a pretty extensive menu for Php499. I love that they have a lot of meat choices.

My husband and I ordered almost everything on the menu. I loved the Wagyu Beef, the Pork Belly Thin Cut, the US Beef Thin Cut, US Marinated Beef, the Unmarinated Pork Belly, and the Japanese Fish Cake. These for me were the best.

We finished 3 rounds of almost everything. I think this was the first time that we filled ourselves like crazy. The food was good and the place was great as well. I think the only downside was that the staff seems to be in mourning over something. They were all sad and no one smiled, at all.

Still, our spirits couldn't be dampened because we were doing one of our favorite hobbies which is eating.

Bdw, if you order soft drinks, it comes in 4s. To be fair, it is pretty cheap at Php99 for 4 cans.

New Normal, New Passion with Easy Recipes

The pandemic has brought out the baker in a lot of people. These days, online bakeshops are sprouting left and right. Baking is another activity that has received so much love lately as a result of the pandemic. For some, they’ve even turned it into a thriving business.

Contrary to what others think, making baked goods is as easy as it gets since you only need to follow the right measurements and, of course, use the right ingredients. And unlike other hobbies, you can always easily share your goodies with your family and the special people in your life.

If you’ve been thinking of giving baking a try but do not know where to start, then you’ve read the right piece. Here's an easy recipe you can practice without breaking a sweat.

Fluffy Yellow Cake

Ingredients:

For the cake:

2 ½ cups of Joy of Baking Cake Flour

1 ¼ tsp of baking powder

¼ tsp of baking soda

¾ tsp salt

1 ¾ cup of granulated sugar

1 cup of buttermilk

10 tbsp of unsalted butter

3 tbsp of vegetable oil

2 tsp of vanilla extract

3 large eggs

3 large egg yolks

A pinch of cream tartar

For the frosting:

20 tbsp of unsalted butter

1 cup confectioner’s sugar

¾ cup of dutch-processed cocoa

¾ cup of light corn syrup

1 tsp of vanilla extract

8 oz of milk, bittersweet or semisweet chocolate

INSTRUCTIONS:

FOR THE CAKE: Adjust oven rack to middle. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Grease two (2) 9-inch round pans, then line with parchment paper and grease the parchment paper. Flour the pans right after.

In a mixing bowl, whisk in Joy of Baking Cake Flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and 1 1/2 cup sugar together in a large bowl. Then in a medium bowl, whisk together, oil, vanilla, and egg yolks.

Using a stand mixer fitted with the whisk on medium-low speed, whip in egg whites and cream tartar for about 1 minute. Then, increase speed to medium-high and whip whites to soft billowy mounds for about another minute. Gradually add remaining 1/4 cup sugar and whip until glossy, stiff peaks around 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.

In a separate mixer bowl, add flour mixture.

Using a rubber spatula, stir one-third of whites into the batter, then add the remaining two-thirds of whites and gently fold into batter until no white streaks remain. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans, smooth tops with a rubber spatula, and gently tap pans on the counter to release air bubbles.

Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean 20 to 22 minutes, rotating pans halfway through baking. Let cakes cool in pans on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove cakes from pans, discard parchment, and let cool completely, about 2 hours, before frosting. (Cakes can be wrapped tightly with plastic wrap and kept at room temperature for up to 1 day. Wrapped tightly in plastic, then aluminum foil. Cakes can be frozen for up to 1 month. Defrost cakes at room temperature before unwrapping and frosting.)

1. FOR THE FROSTING: Process butter, sugar, cocoa, and salt in a food processor until smooth, about 30 seconds, scraping down the bowl as needed. Add corn syrup and vanilla and process until just combined, 5 to 10 seconds. Scrape down the bowl, then add chocolate and process until smooth and creamy, 10 to 15 seconds (Frosting can be kept at room temperature for up to 3 hours before frosting cake or refrigerated for up to 3 days. If refrigerated, let stand at room temperature for 1 hour before using.)

2. Line edges of the cake platter with 4 strips of parchment paper to keep the platter clean. Place 1 cake layer on the prepared platter. Place about 1 ½ cups of frosting in the center of the cake layer right to the edge of the cake. Place the second cake layer on top, making sure layers are aligned, then frost top in the same manner as the first layer, this time spreading frosting until slightly over the edge. Gather more frosting on top of a spatula and gently spread icing onto the side of the cake. Smooth frosting by gently running the edge of spatula around cake and leveling ridge that forms around the top edge or create billows by pressing back of a spoon into the frosting and twirling spoon as you lift away. Carefully pull-out pieces of parchment from beneath the cake before serving. (Assembled cake can be refrigerated for up to 1 day. Bring to room temperature before serving.

Salmon HQ's Valentine Offering

Valentines is fast approaching and with the ongoing pandemic, a lot of people are still looking for an alternative as to what they can do for Valentines since a lot of people are choosing to stay home.

For me, one of the best options would be to order the Salmon Sashimi Cake from Salmon HQ.

I mean, just look at that! Does it not call out your name? The freshness can actually be felt right through the screen and when you grab a slice and put it in your mouth, trust me when I say it literally just melts. SOOOO GOOD!

The husband actually loved the idea of a Salmon Cake for Valentines because it's healthy, it can be consumed, and it's not pricey. It's every man's dream of what they can give someone special in their life who loves sashimi.

Salmon HQ is offering for the very affordable price of Php1,000 a Salmon Cake that comes in heart shape. If that isn't enough to make you kilig, then the fact that this Salmon Cake is completely edible and healthy should be. After all, these days, the gift of health is far more precious than any flower bouquet ever will be.

If you still haven't found the perfect gift for your loved one this Valentine's, I strongly recommend this heart shaped Salmon Cake. Sprinkle a bit with lemon juice and it's good to go. You have the perfect gift and the perfect appetizer for your dinner date at home!

Let them Be Wrong

Sometimes, you just need to allow people to be wrong.

When people judge you without getting to know you, let them. Don't exert effort to correct them in their preconceived notion of who and what you are. Let them be wrong.

When people say bad things about you without any basis just because someone else said so, let them. Don't beat yourself up with their opinion that you know has no basis. Let them be wrong.

When people break friendships because they believed someone without verifying with you first, let them. It may hurt because you are already invested but if they don't think your friendship worthy of being fought for, don't fight for it either. Let them be wrong.

When someone you love breaks your heart for no good reason or because they think you did them wrong, let them. When someone has decided they are done, it's never a good idea to beg and force them to stay. Even if you love them, let them be wrong.

Let people be wrong. It won't take away anything from you because you know you. You know your value, you know your worth, and most of all, you know the truth.

You know what you are capable of, what you did, what you didn't do, and what you can become and achieve so let them be wrong. Let them think what they want and continue to be great.

Let them be wrong. Eventually, they will realize that all along, you were right and they were wrong.
