SM Prime taps Citicore Renewables for the supply of Clean Energy

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime) and Citicore Renewable Energy Company (CREC) signed a Memorandum of Agreement on 11 July 2023 as a joint commitment to champion renewable energy. 

Through this partnership, SM Prime will source its energy requirements of up to 90-Megawatts (MWac) from CREC’s upcoming Lumbangan Solar Power Plant in Tuy, Batangas. The long-term agreement will commence in the first half of 2024. This is in line with the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) policies of the Department of Energy. 

This development further strengthens both CREC and SM Prime's commitment to the Department of Energy's program of moving up the renewable energy supply component of the Philippines to 35% by the year 2030. 

“This partnership marks our strong commitment to providing sustainable operations in our developments nationwide. It is aligned with SM Prime's target of achieving net zero by the year 2040. SM Prime ensures that its risk-informed investments catalyze sustainable development and positive change in the communities where it operates,” said Mr. John Ong, SM Prime Chief Finance Officer.

The agreement with SM Prime adds to CREC’s long list of blue-chip company partners, attesting to the company’s solid performance and service excellence.

SG Hassan Pasco receives a Plaque of Recognition from CDRRMO

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office award SM City San Pablo guard SG Hassan Pasco a plaque of recognition for his selflessness and courageous efforts in saving a life during a critical and life-threatening situation on June 25, 2023.

While conducting his regular rounds, SG Pasco noticed a 74-year-old customer experiencing difficulty breathing due to something stuck in his throat. Fortunately, as a trained guard in first aid rescue techniques, he performed the Heimlich maneuver (Abdominal Thrusts) right away, saving the customer. 

SG Pasco is trained in first aid rescue techniques and regularly undergoes refresher courses with the assistance of a Certified First Aid Trainer from the Philippine Red Cross. These training sessions are conducted every morning before the mall opens.

CDRRMO Management Council in San Pablo, Laguna said that his quick thinking, decisive action, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the preservation of human life have made a remarkable impact on the community. SG Pasco also received P10,000 from the city Administration Office.

P&G's aid reaches Albay communities stricken by Mayon Volcano heightened unrest

Procter & Gamble (P&G) Philippines, the multinational consumer goods company behind trusted brands like Safeguard, Ariel, Tide, Pantene, and Oral-B, extended support for communities affected by the recent heightened unrest of Mayon Volcano in Albay. 

A community alert level 3 is still in effect in Albay, which means there is relatively high unrest in the volcano and an increased tendency toward hazardous eruption. Communities near the volcano have been relocated to Guinobatan, Ligao, Daraga, and Sto evacuation centers. Domingo, Camalig, Legazpi City, Malilipot, and Tabaco, Albay. 

P&G, in collaboration with the Manila Water Foundation and the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, P&G donated Safeguard bar soaps, laundry powders, and hair care products for over 5,700 displaced families. The donation supports the need for basic sanitation measures in evacuation centers and provides evacuees with the comforts of home and a sense of normalcy amidst their situation. 

Albay Representative Joey Sarte Salceda expressed gratitude for P&G’s swift response to their request for assistance. 

"Within days of our request, P&G and Manila Water Foundation were ready with a support package for Albay. WASH products and facilities are essential to maintaining human dignity in evacuation centers, and human dignity is central to our culture in Albay. So, we are very grateful for partners like P&G and their unhesitating response to our call for help," says Salceda. 

Albay Governor Edcel Lagman also shared his gratitude for the Company.

The Travel Madness Expo is one of the largest travel fairs in the Philippines. It attracts thousands of people who want to learn more about travel destinations, and also look for deals from different airlines, travel agencies etc., as well as various freebies. Visitors were encouraged to participate in the freedom wall, a wall of posts for anyone to read or leave behind a thought. The facilitators also held a memory game to play, these activities kept people interested in the booth and got them primed for a trip to Japan.

In the Visit Japan Pavilion, several Japanese organizations were involved and were also giving information on their destinations and/or products, giveaways, and souvenirs to interested visitors. The co-exhibitors included The Prefectures of Toyama and Okinawa as well as the West Japan Railway Company (JR West) and J.CLAIR.

One of the prefectures on display was Toyama. Located at the very center of Honshu, the main island of Japan, Toyama Prefecture faces the Sea of Japan to the north and precipitous mountains in the other three directions. Toyama is full of nature's offerings such as beautiful sea and mountain landscapes and natural delicacies.

It is one of the few places in Japan where you can see glaciers and has many national parks to explore. There is a glass museum that is very popular and worth the visit. The true experience of Toyama, however, is the seafood. Situated on one of Japan's most beautiful bays, Toyama is the place to get local seafood.

The four REMASTER BLACK watches feature a band imprinted with the model names of past milestone G-SHOCK models, whose innovations have forged the evolution in the unending pursuit of toughness. 

These 40th anniversary shock-resistant REMASTER BLACK timepieces feature a band imprinted with the names and launch years of past G-SHOCK milestone models. From more than 4,200 models launched over the past 40 years, Casio chose 49 G-SHOCK models to represent the innovative advancements in structure, function, materials, and design the brand has delivered over time. These model names are imprinted on the REMASTER BLACK band through a hot-stamping process that impresses the lettering into the band for a textural, indented effect. The overall design is in G-SHOCK brand black accented with gold-colored stainless steel band loop. 

These latest timepieces are based on four perennially popular models: the DW-5600, which inherited the original iconic G-SHOCK shape; the DW-6600, the first G-SHOCK equipped with backlight; the analog-digital combination GA-110; and the GA-2100, with its unique octagonal bezel. The new DWE-5657RE, designed based on the DW-5600, comes with an interchangeable round DW-5700 bezel to deliver the fun of two different looks in one timepiece.

In addition to the anniversary logo engraved on the case back, a star is also engraved on the button on the lower left side of the case for three of the models, and on the watch glass at the 40-minute mark for the GA-114RE. On both the DWE-5657RE and the DW-6640RE, the anniversary logo appears when the backlight is lit.

The bezel and band are made with bio-based resins for less environmental impact. The newly developed modules employed in the DWE-5657RE and DW-6640RE provide a high-brightness LED backlight and battery life of five years. The special packaging for these models is made with recycled paper to help promote a circular economy.

PMCC (4th Watch) Launches Nationwide Bloodletting Activity in Partnership with Philippine Red Cross

With the beginning of the month-long observance of National Blood Donors’ Month, the Pentecostal Missionary Church of Christ (4th Watch) or PMCC (4th Watch) reiterated the life-saving importance of blood donations during its National Bloodletting Activity last July 8.

The blood drive was launched at the Philippine Red Cross main office in Mandaluyong, and was conducted simultaneously across 30 locations in the Philippines, including Cavite, Quezon, Mindoro, Aklan, Bacolod, Davao, and Metro Manila.

Apostle Arsenio T. Ferriol, the church’s Chief Executive Minister, along with Bishop Jonathan Ferriol, Deputy Executive Minister, led the launch of the National Bloodletting Activity with the support of Philippine Red Cross Chairman Richard “Dick” Gordon. Local government units and advocates also expressed their support for the church’s blood drive.

Bishop Ferriol underscored the important duty of the church in uplifting the lives of everyone in the community. “As the PMCC (4th Watch), we firmly believe that churches have a vital role as partners within the community, dedicated to bringing positive change and serving the needs of the people,” he said.

For its part, PMCC (4th Watch) has established partnerships with local governments, community leaders, and organizations such as the Philippine Red Cross to strengthen the church’s outreach efforts across the country. The church has also opened its outreach activities to the general public, regardless of their religious affiliation.

“Our aim is to unite Filipinos in a collective effort to create a healthier and more vibrant community, highlighting the universal values of compassion, service, and solidarity,” Bishop Ferriol explained.

Then-President Fidel V. Ramos declared the month of July as National Blood Donors’ Month under Proclamation No. 1021, signed on June 9, 1977, to spread awareness of the importance of blood transfusions and to encourage more Filipinos to donate blood. 

The bloodletting activity, dubbed “Give Love, Give Blood, Save Lives,”
is a simultaneous event held in several locations in the country.

Bishop Ferriol noted the connection between the life-giving nature of blood donations and the transformative power of the Gospel. “Both endeavors aim to bring new life, whether through the spiritual nourishment of the Word or the physical revitalization through blood transfusions,” he explained.

The church’s blood drive is also part of its ongoing 50th-anniversary celebration, which will include another series of medical missions to underserved communities in the Philippines and a number of prayer and healing crusades around the world. This will culminate in a National Convention and a Golden Anniversary Celebration at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas, Tarlac on August 27.

Bishop Ferriol, however, maintained that the church’s milestone is not a reason to boast. “It serves as a reminder of our responsibility to give back to the community that has supported and collaborated with us over the years,” he said. 

Review of National Classic Tenya Day

I honestly didn't know that there was even such a thing as National Tenya Day but boy am I glad that we were able to see the banner informing people about it since Tenya is actually one of the few places that we enjoy our Tempura from. 

Sadly, I wasn't able to take a photo of the banner because we were busy trying to make our way inside. 

We ordered two of the large classic tendon and one regular classic tendon. The photo below is a regular one. I realized that the difference between the two sizes was just a bit of extra rice. 

We also ordered this cheese dumpling which my husband and youngest son approved of so much so that I wasn't able to have a bite of it. 

We also had the classic tempura maki. This was really good. I ate 4 pieces without feeling any guilt haha. 

I also ordered the spicy spam musubi. This was also pretty good. The kimchi rice gave off a nice kick. 

Our meal costs less than Php1600. It was really great because I thought we'd go over Php2000. This is all because they had a buy one take one for classic tenya day. We ordered 3 and we got 6. Absolute happiness!
