I'm in a bit of a hurry since I'm just sneaking in to let you guys know that I have read all of your wonderful comments and how very much it warms my heart. Thank you everyone.

This week has been fantastic. We got a lot of things to do. And later we're gonna go trick or treating. It's a first for my lil tornado so Mommy's all giddy. My lil sister will also be doign it for the first time.

I just feel so blessed. My birthday is tomorrow and I'm gonna be 26. 2 years of laughter, pain, tears, memories, lessons learned, and people who've been there eversince I was a kid.

So here's my list of blessings for the week:

1) You guys. Your comments were just so wonderful.
2) The people who've linked to my site. You make me feel that what I'm writing is actually worth reading. Hugs to all of you. Hugs hugs hugs!
3) The store where I got Tornado's costume. He will no longer be the fool that shall be laughing at us. Haha! We will be laughing at him too. I got him the most adorable costume.
4) Hubby for going trick or treating with us later.
5) My brothers for buying me the books I've reserves at Booksale. Whee! I am such a geek.
6) Most of all, the fact that were all safe and sound and in good health.

Thank you. Hugs to all of you.

B's 1st Wound =(

B and Lolo were walking inside the village when Bt started running and tripped. Lolo was not able to get to him on time, hence, the wound in the picture. Good thing it was just a scratch.

B's 1st Halloween Costume

Here's B looking SO adorable ... ain't he sweet?

Jellibean Vase

Want to spice up your clear vase? Put jellybean candies in it or colored stones, make it the same color as the flower and voila! You got yourself a "new" nice vase .. and it's a conversation piece as well.

If you have multicolored flowers, then go for the most dominant color and get stones or jellibeans of the same color. Or get multicolored stones as well.

how we get B to fall asleep real quick

here's Ate Vangie massaging him ... note that in this picture, B is wide awake

after 2 minutes, B is fast asleep ... the massage soothes his tired body and feet from all the running and playing he did the whole day.

finally, fast asleep ... sweet dreams lil one ..

Friday Feast # 117 Ed. 17

Create a new candle scent.
- It would have to be a combination of apple, citrus, and lavander. Something refreshing, yet relaxing.

Name one way you show affection to others.
- I create things for them. It may be a small thing but it's gonna be handmade. Or hugs! Hugs work.

What is your favorite writing instrument?
- I'm not sure I get this. Instrument? My computer. Style: Free writing.

Main Course
If you were given $25 to spend anywhere online, from which site would you buy?
- Amazon or a scrapbook site ...

Are you dressing up for Halloween? If so, what are you going to be?
- Yes, I am ... I'll be a witch and my lil sister is my Familiar and my son will be the fool laughing at us. Lol!

SPH # 5: Safe

Since I'll be real busy tomorrow with a wedding to attend and a basketball opening as well, I'm gonna be posting ahead of time for my Saturday Photo Hunt. Don't want to miss out on this one coz I got the perfect picture for the theme: Safe.

That is my hubby's hand holding our baby's lil hand. I want my baby to know that as long we are holding his hand, he will be safe. As long as we are here, may it be physically, mentally, or spiritually, he will be safe. Our love will protect him.

Here's Brent fast asleep on my tummy. There is a story behind this picture. H and I were lying in bed with B and we were trying to get him to sleep. He didn't want to. He tried to fight it off. He'd play with us. Stand up. Squeal. Shake his head. Anything but lie down and sleep. So , we let him be. After an hour and a half, he suddenly sat beside me and put his head on my tummy. Then he fell asleep. It was so funny because he just couldn't fight it anymore. I asked H to take this picture because it was just a precious moment.

shooting stars

here is my son, shooting the stars in his toy...

Gift Wrap Idea

I know I got this from Good Housekeeping and I thought it was such a quaint idea. Pick a page from your favorite book or a quotation or a scary story for Halloween ... have the page enlarged then use it to cover your gift.

Wrap a ribbon around the finished product. Isn't that cool? =)

Thursday Thirteen # 3

13 things that scares me

1) ghost stories ... I love listening to them but afterwards, my imagination runs away and I imagine every nook and cranny filled with monsters or ghouls
2) roaches, spiders, centipeds ... all insects basically ... I will scream like hell when faced with one ... then I go Baygon crazy and spray the entire house
3) dying in a fire
4) death by drowning ... I don't know how to swim so I know that no matter how much I flail around, I'm just gonna go straight to the bottom and become fish food (eeekkkk!)
5) going in a room that's real dark and I have no idea if there is anyone there or not
6) fear of the unknown
7) capiz windows in provincial houses
8) forests at nighttime gives me the chills
9) big jars ... there was a movie shown when I was young wherein this woman was sold by her husband to a tribe and they buried her alive in a huge jar, she vowed to avenge and in years, turned into a monster that would grab people near the jar and kill them
10) becoming really big ... like 200lbs and up ... I'm already 160lbs and not losing any no matter how much I try =(
11) omens scare me as well ... i go for better safe than sorry
12) scary films ...
13) losing the people I love

Goodie Basket

I can't remember where I got this, either from Smart Parenting or Good Housekeeping. The idea here is to make a gift basket without too much effort and be able to personalize it.

So what you would need is a plastic gift basket, the size would depend on you of course. Then gather materials available in the house. It can be ribbons, pieces of paper, cut out from magazines, or what have you. Decorate your basket, fill it with goodies (bath soaps, small perfumes, and a brooch for Mommy maybe or candies for lil sis, it's all up to you.)

Mommy Paranoia

I used to be a carefree, no worries kind of person. I'd hear news about someone being maimed and I'd feel sorry but I quickly forget about it. That was then.

Now, I'm a paranoid mom. Every bad thing I hear on the news or from word of mouth sends me into a frenzy of worst case scenarios playing in my mind in an endless cycle. What if it was my son? What is my son would be this and that? Argh! Take for example the text message I got last night. It said that there would be an intensity 7 earthquake that will happen within the night and this was released by our own earthquake center.

Eeekkk! Of course I freaked out. I thought of all the stuff in my house that could possibly fall on my son. Every.Single.Thing. It was enough to make me age 20 years. Needless to say, I did no have a good night sleep.

Luckily, it wasn't true.

Of course, it's still running in my mind and I can't help but not think about it. What has happened to me? Why have I become a paranoid freak? Where's the carefree woman of before? What has happened to me?

* update: And like a message from heaven, I chance upon this blog entry. Thanks Very Mom. You made me feel better without even knowing how or why.

yey me!

I just wanna give a shout out to Miss Suzy and a huge hug and thank you with lots of kisses for linking me in her blog and putting me under her daily must read. It is so super flattering. Yey me. =) Thank you for thinking that my posts are worth reading. Hugs! Lotsa lotsa hugs!

*check out her site as well ... its worth reading ...

** I also got the following books for only Php980. Chicken Soup for the Soul of America, My First Party Book, the Crafty Diva's DIY Stylebook, and Crafts in Minutes. All of them hardbound. Beat that! I am such a geek. =)

*** for those who have issues with their bosses, here's something to make you smile. It made me smile.

*** more love: The wish I made for a cancer stricken kid came true with the help of so many other people. God is good. Here's the post. It's titled Ask and You Shall Receive. Pyro finally met Batista.

for any woman who feels lost

I am a Mother,
don’t ask me my name,
I’m just one of millions,
created the same.

I give you life,
I nurture your soul,
For I am a Mother
and this is my role.

I am a daughter,
don’t ask me my name,
I’m just one of millions,
created the same.

I bear the traits,
of the Mother who bore me,
For I am the daughter,
of the woman before me.

I am a grandmother,
don’t ask me my name,
I’m just one of millions,
created the same.

I’ve pushed past the bondage,
for my right to be me,
For I am a grandmother,
liberated and free.

I am a wife,
don’t ask me my name,
’m just one of millions,
created the same.

I give you support,
all the love you require,
For I am a wife,
I give all you desire.

I am a sister,
don’t ask me my name,
I’m just one of millions,
created the same.

I fight to be equal,
amongst one another,
For I am a sister
and you are my brother

I am a woman,
don’t ask me my name,
I’m just one of millions,
created the same.

I wear many faces,
fulfill many needs,
For I am a woman
and this is my creed.

being 20 something ...

They call it the "Quarter-life Crisis." It is when you stop going along with the crowd and start realizingthat there are many things about yourself that you didn't know and may not like.
You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or two, but then get scared because you barely know where you are now.

You start realizing that people are selfish and that, maybe, those friends that you thought you were soclose to aren't exactly the greatest people you have ever met, and the people you have lost touch with are some of the most important ones. What you don't recognize is that they are realizing that too, and aren't really cold, catty, mean or insincere, but that they are as confused as you.

You look at your job... and it is not even close to what you thought you would be doing, or maybe you are looking for a job and realizing that you are going to have to start at the bottom and that scares you.

Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing and find yourself judging more than usual because suddenly you realize that you have certain boundaries in your life and are constantly adding things to your list of what is acceptable and what isn't. One minute, you are insecure and then the next, secure.

You laugh and cry with the greatest force of yourlife. You feel alone and scared and confused. Suddenly, change is the enemy and you try and cling onto the past with dear life, but soon realize that the past isdrifting further and further away, and there is nothing to do but stay where you are or move forward.

You get your heart broken and wonder how someone you loved could do such damage to you. Or you lie in bed and wonder why you can't meet anyone decent enough that you want to get to know better. Or maybe you love someone but love someone else too and cannot figure out why you are doing this because you know that you aren't a bad person. One night stands and random hookups start to look cheap.

Getting wasted and acting like an idiot starts to look pathetic. You go through the same emotions and questions over and over, and talk with your friends about the same topics because you cannot seem to make a decision.

You worry about loans, money, the future and making a life for yourself... and while winning the race would be great, right now you'd just like to be a contender! What you may not realize is that everyone reading this relates to it.

We are in our best of times and our worst of times, trying as hard as we can to figure this whole thing out.

*** I remember readnig this when I was about 22 and I thought that, wow! This is really something that I can relate to. Unfortunately, I don't know who the author is so I am unable to give the right credit. If you know who wrote this, leave me a comment so I can give proper credit to where credit is due.

And to those who are in their 20's or have experienced this when they were in their 20's, lemme know what you think. I'm turning 26 in a couple of days, hence, the sentimental post about being 20 something. Forgive me my small meltdown.

munimuni # 4

This week started with a well baby check up for my lil tornado as well as a MMR vaccine. Good thing he didn't react badly to it. No eggs for the next 10 days though. Lots of good things that happened. We visited my parents and they got to spend time with tornado. He's becoming really inquisitive, wanting to check out everything in sight. His personality is showing and I can see that he's not the dependent baby. He doesn't have separation anxiety which is good.

Pretty good week if I may say so. Next week marks may 26th birthday. I wonder what God has in store for me. As long as my family is healthy and safe, I know I can forge ahead and face life.

I also got the complete season of FRIENDS. I am so watching it on my days off. And I found 2 craft books dirt cheap as well as a hardbound Chicken Soup for the American Soul.

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I'll try to post tomorrow and Tuesday in preparation for NaBloPoMo. Hugs!

9 Weird Things About Me

I've been tagged by The Wooden Porch to do this. It's my first one (first to be tagged!) and it makes me so giddy. Blogger conked out on me earlier causing me undue stress. I never thought that Blogger could have that effect on me. Hehe. Added you to my sidebar as well TWP. =)

1) I still collect Happy Meal toys and other meal toys given out by fast food chains. I love them and I have a vast collection of it. Don't see myself stopping collecting them.

2) I still color in coloring books. My current fave ones are the Care Bear Coloring Books. But ..... I don't know how to coordinate colors so you're going to see the most abnormal color combination you can find in a Care Bear. I'm talking eggplant colored Care Bears or Magenta Care Bears.

3) My feet peels. The skin on my feet that is. I got it from my Dad and I don't know why it does that but it does and I love peeling it. Lol! It's disgusting I know.

4) I get chapped lips and I peel off the chapped skin. No matter how much it hurts, and it does to the point that I get tears in my eyes, I still peel it. I look like a battered wife at times coz of that but it never stops me. I'd rather that it be bleeding or hurting than to have that chapped skin feeling rough against my lips. See, it is weird.

5) When I like a TV show, I buy the DVD of the entire series and I print out the script of that TV show and have it binded so I can read the script at my leisure.

6) I hate getting my feet when I'm wearing open toed shoes. It irritates me like nothing else can. I also hate getting startled. It makes me irrationally mad.

7) I only eat the marshmallows in Oreo O's. The rest, I let my husband eat coz I don't like the taste of it.

8) I still feel excited going to carnivals and theme parks. I can't wait to ride in the Carousel eventhough I'm over 25 now. I can't get over it. I'm over 25 in a couple of days.

9) I collect way too much stuff. Magnets, pillows, earrings, purple things, holiday stuff, plastic containers, craft books, scrapbooks, bags, shoes, toys, frames ... and so on.

I am tagging WAYA and Mama Duck! =) Just copy and paste this in your own blog and then tag some other people.

Thanks TPW for tagging me. I had loads of fun!

SPH # 4: Dreaming

My son was sick here. I bet he was dreaming of getting well and being able to play and run down the house. I was dreaming he would get well. When this picture was taken, I was unaware since I was just praying that he would get well real soon.

To all those who have lost hope in their dreams, DON'T. Continue dreaming ... and living.

Grab the photo hunt code or join the blogroll.

* I just learned I was Site of the Day last week only now. So super late Wheeeee!

Going Down Memory Lane

I was a child born in the 80's. That makes me feel ancient ( no offense to those born in the 50's, 60's and 70's.) I'm sure you understand my sentiments. In a few days, I'm turning 26 which for me marks a whole new quarter in my life.

Yes, I did go through the so-called quarter life crisis. Yes, I spent way too much. I thought I was all that when I became a yuppie. But I learned my lesson, and I grew up, eventhough I didn't want to. Peter Pan syndrome I believe.

So as a tribute to the 80's and 90's which marks the heyday of my growing years ... I give you some of the music, films, and stuff I fell in love with during that time.

Bon Jovi - I even watched the concert here amidst the typhoon and muddy location. My Mom still hasn't forgiven me for dragging her to it. Lol! I loved them so much. I memorized all their songs and would belt my heart out with my best friend, Hazel.

Aerosmith - I had a lesbo moment coz of Alicia Silverstone. She was just so hot in their videos, especially Crazy. I'd even imitate her in front of the mirror in my room. Shhhh ... that's our lil secret okay? Teehee.

Gun's and Roses - My other best friend at that time was in love with them. Ergo, I was forced to love them. Sooner, I did. We'd sing this while eating fishballs and kikiam. I never did get how to whistle the intro to Patience but I sure tried.

Dirty Dancing - I will always love Johnny and Baby. Remember, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner." Ever. Sigh ...

Some cartoons I loved: Thundercats, Bioman, Shaider, Care Bears, Ewoks, Smurfs, Rainbow Brite, He-Man, and She-ra.

I was also into Dawsons Creek back then. To the point that I had all their transcript printed out. And the DVD of all seasons. Now, they show it on cable dubbed in Japanese. Huwaaaaaa!!!! =(

Sigh. The good ol' days.

SPS Mini Reunion

So I met up yesterday with Marco and Flare, two people from my college days whom I've managed to keep in touch with. Sad to say though, Marco will soon be leaving for the States. He's gonna be staying there, probably for good. =(

Flare has always been there most especially now that I am married. She keeps me grounded and reminds me of who I was before I became wife and mom. Thanks girl.

Marco was there to witness my major meltdown back in college. Not a pretty sight but he still stood by me and has been a friend eversince. Fly away and hope you find the right path.

Love you both!

Thursday Thirteen # 2

13 reasons I enjoy blogging

1) I get to write about anything and everything.
2) I get to read other people's thoughts on what I wrote.
3) I get to "meet" other people from other countries. You gotta understand, I've never been anywhere outside my country.
4) I get to learn new stuff from other bloggers.
5) The interaction I get to do makes me feel like I'm part of a world wide family.
6) I get to know myself more through all the meme's that I "borrow" from other bloggers.
7) I meet people with the same interests that I have.
8) I meet people who have different interests and I learn from them.
9) I get to do magnet swaps. Now, if there's someone out there willing to do stationary or notebook swaps or recipe book swaps, I'd be more than happy to oblige.
10) It fuels my creative juices.
11) I have an outlet for my irrational thoughts and fears without having to hurt anyone.
12) I get to show off my son's pictures.
13) I get to feed my inner narcissists. Lol!

** thanks to whoever owns the image of Thursday 13 ... I forgot who I borrowed it from.

Love Thursday # 5

the effect a grandson has on his grandparents

Love is having two daunting persons who has the strongest personality become putty in the hands of a lil baby. This lil baby can make them smile with just a "gooo" or a grin. This baby can even make them do silly things like what my Mom is doing in this pic. Lol!

Recipe: Ground Pork in Fresh Lettuce

fresh lettuce
2 pcs garlic, chopped
1 pc onion, chopped
3 pcs carrots, diced and cut into small cubes
3 pcs potatoes, diced and cut into small cubes
1/2 kg ground pork (or beef, or chicken)

* optional
green peas

Saute garlic and onion. When it becomes translucent, pour in ground pork . Let simmer for 10 minutes. Add in a dash of salt. sugar, and black pepper to taste. Add carrots and potatoes. Let cook for 10 more minutes.

Set aside.

Take fresh lettuce and peel off one by one. Put it nice plate and voila! Dinner is ready.

How to eat:

Put ground pork inside fresh lettuce then roll it till it sort of wraps the entire ground pork. Think bacon wrapped around a hotdog. Or something like that. Lol!

The pink liquid in the blender is strawberry milkshake. Just add ice cream to milk in a blender and mix.

my wish for you ...

Inner strength is the one thing that I would like my son to have. With this, he will be able to face anything that life has to give him. With inner strength, he will be able to handle even the fiercest monster that life will have him face.

Inner strength will also teach him humility and the ability to forgive others. He will learn to draw energy from letting go of grudges and valuing the most important things in life, family and love.

With inner strength, I am ssured that he will grow up to be a REAL man. One who knows how to love and treasure life.

the woman in me

I wonder where poets get their inspiration when creating such amazing poems? Do they have tireless muses? Did they get the better muses? It is just so heartwarming reading poems that truly touches the heart. A sample ...

for the many blessings

We just came back from a well baby check up of our lil tornado and everything was a-okay. He's 10kgs now and about 80cm long. Seems that once the tornado hit the one year mark, growth and weight gain would be slowing down since he's become a tornado in real life. Too much running around and getting addited to nonstop playing will do that to you. (I wonder why I haven't lost weight when I play with tornado all the time?)

So there I was feeling a wee bit cocky coz my baby was the handsomest tyke there when a woman came in with this uber small baby in her hands. So being the extroverted creature that I am, I asked if the baby was a newborn. She said no, that the baby was actually almost 2 months old. I don't think I was able to hide my shock well because she started explaining as to what happened.

She told me that the baby was premature, being born at 7 months. The mother had died during the c-section delivery because something had gone wrong and a vein exploded in the mother's brain. I was appalled. I thought that no one died anymore during childbirth. I was wrong.

I felt so much pity and love for the lil child. This child who no longer had a mother but was still fighting to survive life. He was so fragile and small. His arms and legs barely an inch thick.

And I realized ....

I was so lucky. My family was so lucky. My baby was very lucky. We had none of that. The pregnancy we had went smoothly and we were all healthy. So I just wanna thank the Lord for the many blessings He has given me. And I pray that that lil boy will grow up noticing the blessings that he receives more than the heartaches that he will encounter.

munimuni # 3

This week was a real good one in my opinion since everything was a-okay at home. No fights, no accidents, everyone is healthy, and we get to visit my family later today. I spent lots of time with my baby as well so that makes me feel like a good mom. Haha!

All in all, pretty laidback week. Nothing too exciting happened which is good in my book. Hope everyone had a happy weekend! =) Tell me all about it if you have time to spare. I wanna know.

Animal Cruelty Law

For a country such as mine to preach about kindness and following in Jesus' footsteps, we sure are doing a sucky job when it comes to treating the animals that surround us. I'm not talking about the animals that are the rapists, child molesters, and what have you but the actual furry creatures that provide us with amusement and company.

This morning on my way to work, I saw a dog crossing the street. Next thing I knew, he was hit by a truck and the truck just continued on its way without a single glance nor a care in the world. To him it was probably just another stray dog, but it broke my heart.

I know I looked like a fool standing in the middle of the street, stopping incoming traffic and telling them to go around because there was a wounded dog in the middle of the street but I could not help myself. I had to do it.

The poor dog kept howling and crying and finally, a man from a store across the street took him and laid him on the sidewalk. I couldn't stay long after that since I had to go to work and really, there was nothing more we could do.

Here, there' no law against animal cruelty. The guy who hit him would not even go to jail for it. It sucks. This is one of the biggest Catholic country and yet, we have no compassion for our furry friends simply because they're not human. They're not important enough.

I wish something could be done about it but I know it's just not gonna change. I admire other countries for caring so much about their animals. I wish it was the same here.

Love Will Conquer

Love Will Conquer

There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer;
no disease that enough love will not heal;
no door that enough love will not open;
no gulf that enough love will not bridge;
no wall that enough love will not throw down;
no sin that enough love will not redeem . . .

It makes no difference how deeply seated may be the trouble;
how hopeless the outlook;
how muddled the tangle;
how great the mistake.
A sufficient realization of love will dissolve it all.
If only you could love enough you would be the happiest and most powerful being in the world . .

Chocolate Cups with Whipped Cream

  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbsp. hazelnut liqueur or dark rum
  • 4 demitasse cups
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • Mint sprigs, for garnish, optional
When planning your menu, make this dessert first to allow these chocolate cups to set and chill.

Heat milk in a small pan over moderate heat until it comes to a boil. In blender or food processor combine egg, sugar, a pinch of salt, semisweet chips and liqueur. Run processor or turn on blender to low setting. Pour in boiling milk in a slow stream. The hot milk will cook the egg and melt the chocolate. Process or blend 1 minute, until smooth. Spoon chocolate into 4 demitasse cups and chill. After dinner, beat cream until soft peaks form. Add a little sugar and beat to combine. Top the chocolate cups with a dollop of cream and garnish each cup with mint sprigs. Place cups on saucers and serve with demitasse spoons. If you use teacups, this recipe will yield 2 cups, rather than 4.

13 reasons to lose weight ...
* I can fit in to my old clothes again and look fabulous.
* I can run after my 15 month old baby without wheezing every 10 minutes. Must be all the fat.
* I can wear a two piece without looking like a sausage.
* Hubby won't call me Miss Piggy anymore.
* I can live a longer life, health wise that is.
* I can win the Biggest Loser PexMoms edition.
* I'll look like the daughter instead of the mother when my Mom and I go out. She's way thinner than I am and never lets me forget it.
* It'll be easier to become flexible because there won't be any fat to get in the way.
* I'll feel better about myself since I'll have one less thing to be depressed about.
* If I ever feel the urge to indulge in chocolates and sweets, I'll have a leeway.
* I won't be asked if I'm pregnant again.
* I can call myself a SuperMom and look the part.
* I won't have to write another 13 reasons to lose weight.

letter to my young self

You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small

But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

- - True Colors by Cyndi Lauper

hey girl,

be strong. you will survive all that life has put in your path, you will overcome it. know that though friends may have left you all by yourself to deal with things, it is only because you need to deal with things by yourself so that you will be a stronger person ... so that you will have more depth.

don't lose hope with your family. they will be there when you most need them. your dad loves you, he just doesn't know how to show it. your mom's nagging will bear fruits one day, when you have a kid of your own. your brothers will matter more and your lil sister, she will need your guidance.

don't bother with the lost loves. though they may have hurt you, the lessons you learned will benefit you in the end. you will learn to appreciate all the small things. you will learn to be happy and to be content; to make the most out of everything.

stand tall and be proud of your achievements. they're more than any ordinary kid could have made. you need to learn how to say thank you when complimented instead of putting yourself down.

you are loved. you are treasured. and you have touched lives more than you are aware of.

working mom's

I have no idea if there is a meme out there that already has this and if there is, sorry but I never meant to copy you. If there isn't, YEY! I'm starting one and it's called ... dan dananan ... Wednesday Wonder. It can be about anything that makes you wonder. Something serious, something juvenile. Just make a post and leave a link to the comment section.

Lemme start.

I WONDER how working mom's find the energy to get up so early and prepare breakfast for the family, fix themselves, go to work, hustle meetings and meet deadlines, have time for friends, go home, prepare dinner, fix themselves again and then spend quality time with baby and hubby? Where do they find the energy? Where do we get the seemingly endless supply or cheeriness and love?

Working moms ... care to shed some light on this query?

Arroz ala Cubana w/o the Banana

Thought that might get your attention. I recently cooked up dinner for my family and upon seeing a recipe for arroz ala cubana, decided that I'll cook my own version. I had all ingredients but unfortunately, the banana was overriped so when I tried cooking it, it turned mushy. Eewww.

So here's a pic of the meal we had and eventhough it lacked the banana part to make it an authentic arroz ala cubana, it was a HIT.

Recipe follows the picture. Lemme know if you guys tried it.

vegetable or corn oil (about 3 tablespoons)
minced garlic (1 tablespoon)
minced shallots (1/4 cup) - green onions
diced tomatos (1/2 cup)
ground beef (1/2 lb)
soy sauce (3 tablespoons)
raisins (1/4 cup)
salt (1/2 teaspoons)
ground black pepper (1/4 teaspoon)
peas (1/2 cup)
peanut oil (5 tablespoons)
plantains (3, peeled and sliced) - if you dont have plantains, regular bananas may do
6 eggs
freshly cooked rice, kept warm (5 cups)

In a large stock pot or skillet, saute garlic and onion in heated vegetable or corn oil until golden brown.

Add minced shallots and cook until transparent.

Add diced tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes. Stir in the beef, pork and soy sauce. Cook until the meat is brown.

Add raisins, salt and pepper. Stir constantly. Add the peas and simmer for another 5 minutes.

In another pan, heat the peanut oil and fry the banana slices. Remove from the heat and set aside. Put more peanut oil and fry the eggs sunny side up. Set aside.

On a large serving platter, arrange the cooked rice with the meat and plantain and the eggs ... however you like them to be arranged.
Bon appetit!

organized clutter

As a mom to a 15 month old baby, I know how messy the house can be due to all the playing and inquisitive mind running loose. Babies will check everything, taste everything, and touch everything. They're made that way so that they can learn more about their environment, surrounding, and about life in general.

No matter how much we clean up, they will mess everything again. Of course this pushes most of us to the edge but before you snap, here are some tips from yours truly on how you can minimize the damage that can be caused by your lil tornado.

Wouldn't we all lvoe to have a room for our babies that looks like the one on the right?

SORT. Make sure that everything is sorted accordingly. Why? If things are sorted properly, there would be a place for everything and everything in its place.

RID. Get rid of clutter. This goes for everything. Look at your closet and if you have any clothes that you have not worn in a year (I'm being lenient here.) then start giving them away or donate them to charity. If you must absolutely keep it, then put it in a plastic organizing box to make room for the clothes that you do use. Something like this would be of great help. Rid the papers that you've kept in your drawers thinking that you'll get to it or there might be something interesting, there isn't. Throw it away. If there are things there that you just can't throw away, then get a small file folder and put it all there. Organize your clutter at the very least if you really can't throw it.

Do this once a month and I can assure you that the house will be tidier, more organized, and clutter free. Save of course for the occasional toy strewn around. But then, its just a reminder that its time for some playtime with baby.
