Museo Pambata Receives PHP 2M from Mayor Isko Moreno

Last July 14, Ms. Bambi Manosa-Tanjutco, President of Museo Pambata, and Ms. Maricel Montero, Executive Director of Museo Pambata received the check for Mayor Isko Moreno’s Sailun Tires talent fee from Mr. Ruben Tan, President of Sailun Tires Philippines and Mr. Jameson Ong, Vice President of Sailun Tires Philippines. This donation will help fund Museo Pambata’s Project “Bakuran”.

It is a new open space that is conceptualized to create awareness and connection among visitors on the importance of nature and the environment to our lives. Space will feature trees and plant species endemic to the Philippines. It will show the value of plants as food and as medicine and how anyone in an urban setting can grow plants and vegetables as a solution to food security.

“We are grateful for Mayor Isko's contribution and the fact that he supports Museo Pambata's mission. By opening the “Bakuran”, we will be able to encourage nature-friendly activities that children and families would love. Outdoor play is very important as safety is a priority during this pandemic. We want Museo Pambata to be an outdoor classroom and an alternative learning environment for them'', says Ms. Bambi Manosa-Tanjutco.

The “Bakuran” will also be opening soon for venue rental for birthday parties, small family gatherings, shoots, prenup pictorials, and day of play for small groups as part of the Museo Pambata’s fundraising efforts.

Mayor Isko Moreno took a tour of the Museo Pambata last June 24, during Manila day, and pledged to help the people behind it after seeing its new Bahay Pukyutan Playground.

5 Apartment Hunting Tips in Chicago You Need to Know

Looking for the perfect place to live can be daunting, even in Chicago. Finding the one that has the right bedroom space, kitchen space, living room area, storage, basement, bathroom, or even the eternal whether you should have a porch or balcony can drive any sane person crazy.

When you are looking for something that fits what you may have in mind, it’s hard to choose which one to compromise, hold on to, or let go of. After all, it’s almost impossible to actually find a house that has every space that fits what you have in mind.

What is possible is checking key things to make sure that your stay in your next Chicago apartment would be pleasant and safe. To make sure that this happens, here are a few things that I have picked up after I had to constantly move in the last decade.

Tip # 1

Check for leaks. Whether you are buying or renting an apartment, it’s important that you check for leaks even if it’s brand new, and more so if it’s been lived in already. Leaks can be a really big problem when the rainy season comes in. You definitely don’t want to get flooded from inside your home or have to get buckets to catch all the dripping rainwater.

Tip # 2

Check for a fire exit. Any apartment should have a good fire exit route. As much as we don’t want to wish for something bad to happen, we should be ready in case something does happen, and knowing a good fire exit route in your apartment is very important.

Tip # 3

Use an online apartment search resource.

When apartment hunting, having an online apartment search resource like
Zumper to help you is necessary. These days, it has become doubly hard to go apartment hunting. When you have a resource like Zumper, it can make things so much easier.

Zumper is used by millions of renters to find houses, rooms, condos, or apartments for rent. You can simply submit digital rental applications and credit reports with Zumper's screening service, powered by TransUnion™. You can also filter by location, price range, bedroom count, pet-friendly, or amenity and set an alert to get notifications when a new listing is posted. It’s so convenient!

Tip # 4

Check for rats and the like. An infestation is the last thing that you want to deal with when you are moving to your new home. You want to know that you can sleep safely at night without having to worry about waking up to a rat staring at you or finding rat feces all over your new home.

Tip # 5

Check with the neighbors for safety and crime rate. As much as we want to rely on reports sent out by cities and local places, it’s still best to check with the people who have actually lived in that area for quite some time if it’s a good place to live in. Knowing the crime rate and checking to see if your neighbors are the friendly and normal kind is very important because these are the people you will be mingling with for quite some time, if not for the rest of your life.

As someone who has moved 10 apartments in 15 years, it’s very important to keep these 5 tips in mind as they can help you have a happier home life in your apartment. Let me know if you have more tips to add. I’d love to hear about it.

Forever Living C9 Program, your baby steps to Losing Weight

I recently learned about the Forever Living C9 Program from a good friend of mine. As much as I wanted to try it, some health restrictions stopped me so I had my brother try this program out.

This is what the program includes.

Forever Therm - formulated with vitamins to provide supplemented support while achieving your diet and lifestyle goals. It helps burn body fat into energy.

Forever Lite Ultra - provides 24g of protein per serving, vitamins, and minerals. It is available in chocolate and vanilla flavors

Forever Aloe Berry Nectar - aids in cleansing the liver which helps detoxify the skin. It also helps cleanse the kidneys.

Forever Garcinia Plus - high in chromium which helps with healthy macronutrient metabolism. It contains Garcinia.

Forever Fiber - designed for digestive health and is high in fiber and low in saturated fat

Cloth measuring tape and C9 Brochure.

Here's my brothers' before and after photo. As you can see, there was visible change and I believe it's because of the C9 Program that he did for 9 days paired with an intense workout.

This is what the diet counterpart looks like.

Day 1 and 2 Program

Breakfast: 2x Forever Garcinia Plus, 4 oz. Aloe Vera Drink, Forever Therm, Exercise on treadmill

Snack: Forever Fiber

Lunch: 2x Forever Garcinia Plus, 4 oz. Aloe Vera Drink, 1x scoop Forever Lite Ultra, Forever Therm

Dinner: 2x Forever Garcinia Plus, 4 oz, Aloe Vera Drink

Evening: 4 oz. Aloe Vera Drink

Day 3 to Day 9 Program

Breakfast: 2x Forever Garcinia Plus, 4 oz. Aloe Vera Drink, 1x Scoop Forever Lite Ultra, Forever Therm

Snack: Forever Fiber

Lunch: 2x Forever Garcinia Plus, 4 oz. Aloe Vera Drink, 1x scoop Forever Lite Ultra, Forever Therm, 30 minutes - 1 hour brisk walking on the treadmill

Dinner: 2x Forever Garcinia Plus, 4 oz, Aloe Vera Drink, you can now choose to eat a 600 calorie meal, but I didn't.

Evening: minimum of 9 oz. of water

My brother lost a total of 3 kgs in 9 days. This is actually amazing and he lost most of it in the tummy area which is even more amazing.

He had some challenges with the taste of aloe and the first 3 days but after, it was more smooth sailing. Another challenge he had was the fact that we continued to cook sumptuous dishes for the home while he had to stick to a strict diet.

Suggestion: Have everyone on board when doing this to help lessen the challenges. This or eat separately from everyone.

Do remember that when it comes to working out and diet, diet is only 20% of the total sum while working out is 80%. It's a good thing that there are programs like the Forever Living C9 program that can help people jumpstart their weight loss journey and finally take those first baby steps to losing weight.

Sekaya, the Superb Reasons why Superfoods are Super

Good health starts with what’s on one’s plate. Now that many have become more conscious of their health, they have also become more mindful of what they eat. And conversations about healthy eating would never be complete without a mention of superfoods.

With July being “Nutrition Month”, it’s just fitting to learn more about superfoods and why they have, in recent years, emerged as a great companion to every health journey. It’s best to start from the beginning – so, what are superfoods really?

Superfood is often hyped as “power food” or food that has exceptional nutritional density. Meaning, it is packed with nutrients even in small serving volumes yet low in calorie content. Mostly plant-based foods, superfoods provide substantial amounts of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals and offer multiple health benefits.

Health experts say that the benefits of eating superfoods include improving nutrition, promoting good heart health, stabilizing blood sugars, and preventing some types of cancer.

Some plant-based foods that are considered superfoods are dark leafy greens such as kale, root crops like beets, and whole grains like quinoa. To illustrate their health benefits, a single cup of kale has more vitamin C than an orange and contains seven times the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for vitamin K. It’s also a good source of minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium that many people are deficient in.

Beets are some of the best sources of nitrates, or compounds that convert to nitric acid in the body. Nitric acid plays an important role in improving blood flow, which may improve athletic performance and also lower blood pressure. Quinoa, meanwhile, is considered a super crop by the United Nations for its high protein content. This superfood is also a complete protein, as it contains all nine essential amino acids that the body cannot make on its own.

The Harvard School of Public Health advises that regular consumption of superfoods still needs to be complemented with healthy living. Despite their popularity, superfoods should not be mistaken as cure-alls or miracles for any existing ailments. They should be incorporated into a proper diet and active lifestyle. While there is a science that backs their health benefits, variety and moderation in your diet are required to enjoy optimum results.

Plant-based Filipino brand Sekaya offers the dietary goodness of superfoods through its Sekaya Raw Actives line. Sekaya Raw Actives are superfood powders made with the highest quality USDA-certified organic wholefood ingredients. They come in ready-to-mix powder formats, so they are easy to stir in water or other beverages, and even mixed in with food.

Choose from Sekaya Raw Actives Barley Green to keep the digestive system healthy, Daily Greens to boost daily intake of essential nutrients, Maca Factor to help regulate stress hormones, Pea Protein to speed up muscle recovery, Powerbeet to increase energy during workouts, and Vegan Protein to sustain a plant-based lifestyle.

Moving in the Middle of the Pandemic, Again

Last year, we moved out of the house we were living in in the middle of the pandemic. I thought we were crazy but we really had no choice. Thankfully, we survived it and I thought that we would be staying in that house till we move on to better things.

I thought wrong.

Apparently, a year later, we would need to move out again because the house we moved into was not well maintained. The ceiling opened up during heavy rainfall and flooded the inside of our home. It was GHASTLY, TRAUMATIC, and just plain BAD.

The worst part? The owner was not even apologetic. Talk about rude. In all the times I told him how horrible the flooding inside the house was, the 6 hours clean up, the roaches, the mud, and what not, he never said sorry about what happened.

It was really appalling.

So, we started the quest of finding a new home but this time, we were racing against the next typhoon and this was hard because it's typhoon season right now in the Philippines. We saw 2 houses both of which were ghastly and overpriced. Thankfully, third time's the charm and we found a new place not far from where we live right now.

It's 3 floors, smaller, cheaper, but most important, far more pleasant and welcoming than the last one. I did have to let go of a lot of my stuff but these were things that I didn't actually need anymore so it's a good thing. I gave it away to people who needed it so it was a good thing.

As you can see, the dining and living room are now in the same area and it flows from one  point to the next. I love that now, there are no more walls in between the area where we eat to the area where we relax.

I also love that this place has an attic.

I turned it into my office, storage area, and display area for our books and toys.

It was stressful, having to move everything within 3 days. The last time, we had 5 days and this time around, we had 3 days to beat the incoming typhoon. It was also very costly. Truth be told, the landlord of our former house should have shouldered this but he was obviously someone who didn't know right from wrong and just wanted money.

I'm just glad we got out of that house and we're safely ensconed in this new one. I hope that this place is where we'll be staying till we move to better things.

AptaKid Milk Formula for Kids 3 Years and Up

Now that I have a baby of my own, I've been making it my job to read up on formula milk to make sure that I give him the right one when the time comes. This is how I stumbled upon Aptakid.

Aptakid is Nutricia’s staged milk formula for children aged 3 years and older. It has a unique blend of nutrients, Pronutra for tummy/gut health and brain development. I think that this is very important because babies and kids have sensitive tummies. We need to make sure that the milk they are taking in is the right one.

It's a good thing that it can be ordered online through their official Shopee store

It's also important to note that this contains Pronutra+, a unique blend of Ingredients (Vit A, C & D, E), LCPs (long chained polysaccharides / DHA), GOS/FOS (9:1 ratio) to help support brain development. Now, I don't know half of these but I do know that these are good for a baby's development.

With AptaKid, Moms have one less thing to worry about in the growth and development of their kids.

Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino 2021 goes digital with diverse and inclusive programming

Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) marks its second digital edition this year with a commitment to promoting awareness and appreciation of OPM artists from all over the world through multiple social media platforms.

The weeklong celebration promises a wide variety of music programs that not only cater to a specific format, but also encompass concerts and gigs, open mic challenges, exclusive premieres, workshops, and a lecture series.

The series of virtual events will run from July 23 to August 1 and will be streamed live via Facebook and KUMU.

Aside from a diverse set of homegrown talents performing online, LMP also partners with key and emerging stakeholders in the music industry such as AmiananPop, MinPop, Kadasig & Artist Ko, Soupstar Music, and Warner Music Philippines to ensure that artists with different backgrounds, and from different regions, are given equal opportunities to perform and engage with the community.

As Christian Bautista puts it, “We wanted there to be a balance between independent artists and mainstream/signed artists from all over the country and to try to cover as many styles and genres as possible. OPM already has a large roster of artists and we wanted to be able to feature as many as we can from the organization. We took into consideration their music and styles as well as the platforms that they are active in for the artists performing the LMP DigiGigs.”

Aside from the music shows and online concerts featuring the roster of PhilPop’s past champions and finalists, LMP is partnering with PETA for a special online showcase featuring the songs from Rak Of Aegis, as well as songwriting and learning opportunities that are spearheaded by the institution’s other partners, FILSCAP and PhilPop.

Even as the music industry is struggling to get back to its former glory and a lot of plans are derailed by the pandemic, LMP refuses to back down in its efforts to persevere and push through with mounting an online celebration that champions Filipino musicians not just from Metro Manila, but also from other parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, and the rest of the globe.

Hence, the tagline ‘Ituloy Ang Awitan’ was formed. In the words of LMP Project Manager Gab Cabangon, it was developed as part of a “desire to just challenge the situation that we are in.” He explains, “We wanted to highlight how Filipino Music is here to stay and will continue to be a part of our lives and a sense of hope despite the challenges in these trying times. The creation and support of Filipino music should never stop because our songs are able to reflect the story and the culture of the Filipino people.”

OPM Icon and OPM Board Member Noel Cabangon maintains that nothing can stop this important milestone in the history of Philippine music from happening. He reaffirms, “In an ideal situation, we would have wanted to have live shows and concerts so that fans of Filipino Music will get to have that real-life concert experience once again. But of course, there are a lot of considerations that we have to make. Our priority is to mount this festival safely and responsibly for everyone. For the time being, the social media platforms are a suitable alternative to allow artists to perform without the health risks brought about by the pandemic.”

Organized and produced by Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), LMP has been around since 2014, and has established itself as the premiere annual music festival of Filipino music.

This year’s edition will be headlined by some of the biggest and most promising artists in local music such as Noel Cabangon, Christian Bautista, Sandwich, 6cyclemind, Gracenote, Bayang Barrios, Cookie Chua, PhilPop Grand Champions reon and Chud Festejo, Miss Ramonne, artists from Warner Music Philippines like Ferdinand Aragon and Y ARA, and many many more!

This event is also supported by private companies such as Max’s Restaurant, KUMU and KUMUSIKA, The Medical City and Shopee among others.

Smart Hallyu Hangouts with Son Ye Jin

CLOY fans or Crash Landing on You fans had the best time when they had a virtual hangout with Son Ye Jin, made possible by SMART.

There was a question and answer portion that everyone loved so I'll be sharing that part with those who were not able to partake in the virtual hangout.

I’m very happy to be here to meet with my Filipino fans. I’m so honored and excited to see them today.

Are you aware of how popular you are in the Philippines?

Honestly, I didn’t know how huge I was but I would get a lot of pictures and messages from fans so I’m actually very surprised but also very happy that I am so well-loved in the Philippines.

Do you really ride the motorcycle as seen in the Smart commercial?

I don’t, really. There was actually a stunt double who rode the motorcycle. The scene that we shot was just until the part where I was getting on the motorcycle.

What was the most memorable part about shooting the Smart commercial?

There were very long hours and we were on location. It took all morning and all night to shoot. And we were also remotely shooting with the Philippine team. It was kind of like a strange situation but also very fascinating, and to be virtually communicating with the team in the Philippines was a very different experience. But I was very honored to have shot this commercial for Smart and I’m very happy to be working with Smart right now.

What have you been up to after Crash Landing On You (CLOY)?

Right as we were wrapping up CLOY, the pandemic was starting. We didn’t really realize how serious it was at the beginning, so ever since we went into full pandemic mode, same with everyone—I’ve been staying home, I’ve been limiting my trips outside the house where I would meet my friends or do things outside. This is a very sad situation, the whole world is experiencing this right now, and everyone is going through a difficult time. So I’ve kind of been doing the same thing as everyone else.

Questions from Fans

You get many comments like your smile is very charming, your acting is really good, I love you—these are the most common comments you get. Aren’t you a little tired of hearing them? Maybe your ears are bleeding at this point?

No, I’ll never get sick of hearing them. I want to hear more. (laughs)

What is your favorite season?

I like late spring to early summer because around this time, you can feel a breeze and it’s very fragrant.

What is your favorite color?

Light Indian pink

Can you say “I love you all” in Tagalog?

Mahal ko kayo.

What do you like to do when you take a rest?

I like to exercise to keep strong and fit and so that I’m always ready to jump on a project. I also really like to walk my dog.

What is your beauty secret?

It’s exercise still. It’s not so much for being slim or for a diet purpose but it’s really about my mental health. I think a lot of people when they see somebody, they see beauty or health not because they see beautiful features, but positive energy. Something that is glowing from within. I think that this is something that you feel as you grow older. (laughs)

How do you think you will change in the next 5 or 10 years?

I would like to still be acting. I’d like to be present among the fans and show my work.

Have you been to the Philippines? Which part of the Philippines would you like to go to the most?

I’ve been to the Philippines a very long time ago on the family trip, and the most memorable thing about that trip was just the friendly faces of the Filipinos. I could see that everyone was very happy, very friendly, and there was an innocence about them. I found that very memorable.

I would really love to go to Boracay.

Which aspect of yourself do you like the most?

I think I like it best when I can make someone laugh. There’s something about being able to do that to another person that makes me happy. I’m also normally very naughty and playful and I also like to laugh myself. Because I laugh a lot, it also makes the other person feel good, like they’re doing a job.

Yes or No Segment

“I am the best actress in Korea."

No. A little. Yes, maybe. (laughs)

“I would like to be born as Son Ye Jin.”

No, because I’ve already had this experience. In the next life, I would like to be born to fly, which is actually what I did in CLOY.

“I search for my name in portal websites.”

No. When I’m working maybe I will look, when there’s a new show out or something, I’ll check out what they’re saying. But when I’m resting like I am now, I would go for an entire week sometimes without checking online. When I’m resting, I’m really resting, I’m committed to that. Sometimes when I would post on social media, there would be someone that talks about that but when I’m not working, I really not checking anything.

“Do what you want to do, or don’t do what you don’t want to do.”

Do what you want to do. But of course, as an adult who’s working, there are some times when I have to do what I don’t want to do. Depending on your career, where you are in life, and your personality, your answer to this question can differ a little.

What is your favorite thing to do?

Eating something that I really love, like sweet and sour pork.

Filinvest Group and Amazon Partner to Drive Innovation Across the Conglomerate

Gotianun-led Filinvest Group–one of the Philippines’ largest conglomerates–has partnered with Amazon and its global industry experts to accelerate digital transformation across the Filinvest ecosystem by seeding Amazon’s “learn and be curious” culture to various teams.

As the world recovers from the pandemic and accelerates towards economic growth, Filinvest’s President and CEO Josephine Gotianun-Yap remain confident and steadfast in driving the business forward. “Today, Filinvest envisions its varied businesses in sectors such as real estate, hospitality, and banking and finance to embrace a digital future. This vision requires everyone in the organization to innovate and find new ways of doing things to cater to the increased expectations of customers.” The group believes that this is an essential step in ensuring that its people and businesses can empower more and more Filipinos to achieve their dreams in the future.

“We are inspired by the Day 1 mentality at Amazon, their customer obsession, as well as their ability to maintain a long-term focus, and pursue bold innovation,” says Xavier Marzan, Managing Director and CEO of F(DEV), Filinvest Group’s digital innovation and venture arm. “The recent global pandemic has forced all organizations to rethink the way that they do things as well as prepare for an accelerated digital future. To us, this means creating more digital-based experiences for customers and being able to launch new digital offerings. What better way to drive all these than through an innovation-led culture, which is at the core of Amazon.”, Marzan added.

As part of the collaboration, Amazon’s AWS unit will work with Filinvest business teams to leverage Amazon’s Working Backwards methodology, with the aim of rapidly building out and deploying customer-centric digital solutions. AWS innovation experts will also connect these business teams to its digital innovation specialists and enterprise strategists to provide cutting-edge industry knowledge from different markets to support the conglomerate’s digital growth initiatives. Moreover, AWS will support Filinvest’s efforts with its AWS Activate program which includes providing mentorship to Filinvest business teams, creating sandboxes to speed up experimentation, and providing go-to-market support to the tech startups within the conglomerate’s portfolio. The partnership is part of Filinvest’s broader Filinvent.io program that was launched last year by F(DEV) and is geared towards accelerating the development of new digital-based capabilities, products, and businesses across the group’s subsidiaries.

Conor McNamara, Managing Director of AWS ASEAN expressed excitement towards the collaboration, stating that “AWS has been at the forefront of helping organizations of all sizes across the globe with their digital transformation journeys. We’re very excited about our collaboration with Filinvest Group and F(DEV). It presents an opportunity to combine both our deep expertise in technology and digital business models to support the growth objectives of the Filinvest conglomerate across its diverse businesses ranging from real estate, retail, financial services to power, and infrastructure.”

Review of Baker J in Crimson Hotel Alabang

I recently learned that Crimson Hotel in Alabang recently opened a cafe located on the ground floor of the hotel. Since my brother and I are now fully vaccinated, I felt a little bit brave venturing out.  I told my brother that I wanted to visit the place but we both agreed that should there be a lot of people, we would turn around and go home.

Luckily, we got there at a dead hour and so there was only one other table that was occupied.

First impression: cafe with luxury feels. I LOVED IT. I love bakeries or cafes that give off this kind of vibe because a small part of me can pretend that I'm in another country, having a cup of hot coffee and eating delicious pastries.

Baker J gives you just that feeling or vibe.

My brother and I were seated and given a QR code to scan for the menu. I loved this since it was a contactless way of scanning a menu and we didn't have to touch a physical one. When we saw the menu, we knew that we were in for a treat because it offered food just like the ones in a legit Parisian cafe / bakery.

We started with bread. This was complimentary and I loved the packaging that it came in. Very chic. I also wanted to take home the ceramic jar that housed the cutlery but had to restrain myself haha. It was just so pretty. I don't know about you but little details like this matter to me because it adds to the overall effect and impression of the place.

This is the Champignon Tartine with is an open faced mushroom sandwich. I super loved this one because I am a mushroom lover. I don't know about you but there's something soothing about mushrooms and whenever I eat one, I feel healthier. Maybe it's just me but that's how this Champignon Tartine was to me. Healthy food on top of a sandwich.

We also had the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict with Hollandaise Sauce. My brother loved this, I only liked it coz it's pretty haha. For me, it was a little bit too tangy but my brother said that this was absolutely perfect.

This is the complet which is the complete breakfast set that anyone who wants to stuff himself silly should order. It has everything and when I say everything, it has EVERYTHING. As you can see, it has bacon, eggs, sausage, mushroom, fruits, and waffles. It even has a side salad.

These are just appetizers and it was all very filling. Then came the main course. The salmon was absolutely perfect. It was cooked perfectly that I ended up eating everything off the plate. I also loved that the slab of salmon was big enough to be filling.

The steak, on the other hand, would be perfect for any meat lover. Cooked the way you want from rare to medium-well, this is the kind of steak you have on a Friday night or the weekend when you just want to celebrate.

Overall, I would definitely recommend hanging out at Baker J in Crimson Hotel Alabang. It's chic and definitely a place worthy of more than a visit.

Some of the other must-tries from the new menu is Chef Nicolas’ take on the classic French dish Coq Au Vin from Burgundy, which beautifully showcases the exceptional wines of the famous wine region; rich yet light Quiche Lorraine from the region of the same name; Baker J’s signature Confit de Canard made with duck confit croquettes and served with green lentils and mizuna leaves in balsamic vinaigrette; the healthy but satisfying Pan-Seared Salmon Steak with Ratatouille; and of course, what would a visit to a French café be without the ever-favorite French breakfast Tartines, which includes the Salmon Tartine with Avocado and Goat’s Cheese and the brunch-perfect traditional Croque Monsieur with Grùyere.

To wash down all the delectable food, diners can choose from a wide range of Baker J signature beverages — from refreshing summer drinks to detox options, espresso, frappé, and even mocktails and cocktails.

At the helm of Baker J is Crimson Hotel Filinvest City’s Executive Pastry Chef, Nicolas Pasdeloup. Born and raised in Paris, Chef Nicolas has studied and lived the heart and soul of French cuisine. Graduating from the prestigious École de Paris des Métiers de la Table, he worked in various capacities in some of the finest and largest hotels and restaurants in France, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Egypt, China, and around Asia. He also established and grew his own catering business for a decade before going back to the corporate world.

Edukasyon.PH, ASUS targets school IT departments for better learning outcomes

Distance learning is proving to be challenging, as recent data shows that only 28% of Filipino students believe they are prepared for distance learning. But it isn’t only students who are being left behind by this digital shift. Teachers are also experiencing equal, if not greater, challenges compared to their students.

To support distance learning, Edukasyon.PH and ASUS are teaming up through the ASUS Edukasyon School Partner Program to provide Philippine educators with the technology and training materials they need to keep teaching and guiding students through the new online setup. Part of the program will provide school administrators and technicians up-to-date technology and all-around support. These include cloud-based applications to supply the need for collaborative learning and cybersecurity ware to keep important records and student data safe.

“By working closely with the IT departments of each school, we can be sure that they are equipped with the resources needed to effectively assist teachers and students through the digital shift,” said Rafi Quisumbing, Chief Technology Officer for Edukasyon.PH.

In a media briefing on Tuesday, key speakers discussed the state of educators in distance learning and the vital role of IT departments in the digital transformation of schools in the Philippines. Quisumbing was joined by George Su, Country Manager for ASUS Philippines and Mon Ibrahim, former Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary and current President of the UP System Information Technology Foundation (UPSITF), Trustee of the Analytics Association of the Philippines (AAP), and ASUS Philippines’ Ambassador for Education and Digital Transformation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken more than 1.2 billion students out of their classrooms all over the world. But even as campuses stay closed and face-to-face lessons remain suspended, more than 24 million elementary and high school students have returned to school as the Department of Education (DepEd) has shifted to distance learning.

“On top of juggling work with family duties, educators usually take on more administrative tasks and struggle with unfamiliar technology too,” described Ibrahim. “That’s why we turn to the ones trained to handle and troubleshoot tech problems—our schools’ IT departments.”

“ASUS has always been a go-to brand for reliable gadgets for learning, both for Filipino students and teachers. This year, we are extending our long-term support to the entire education ecosystem with technology that improves productivity and learning outcomes while keeping IT management costs low,” said Su.

The ASUS Edukasyon School Partner Program is set to bridge gaps in virtual learning through a holistic, tech-forward approach. Benefits for ASUS partner schools include an annual IT fund, learning seminars, internship opportunities, and exclusive discounts on ASUS products.

To kick off the initiative, Edukasyon.ph and ASUS will host a free live webinar on hosting, growing, and maintaining learning management systems (LMS) this July 8 at 1:30 PM. It will be open to all IT personnel and teachers, plus give them a chance to win four brand new ASUS laptops which include the ASUS BR1100, ASUS newest and best K-12 education laptop, and more freebies during the event.

Registration for the webinar is ongoing at asus.edukasyon.ph

Additionally, ASUS and Edukasyon.ph have launched an all-in-one hub of helpful online learning resources for education partners. To access the hub, visit the microsite here.
