Modern Shanghai

I was pretty excited to try this place since its part of The Bistro Group so I was really happy when my friends agreed to eat there. When I got there, I liked that the place was very spacious and had a high ceiling.

We ordered Jellyfish Salad, Bamboo Shoots, Hakao, Fried Xiao Long Bao, and Chicken Feet for appetizers.

Jellyfish Php168

This was not the usual Jellyfish that I have in other Chinese places. This is a rip off in my opinion. It was icky and yuck. I did not like it at all.

Stewed Spring Bamboo Shoots Php88

The bamboo shoots were okay though one needs to put soy sauce for the taste to come out. If left alone, its bland but I think its really a bland thing to begin with.

Steamed Hakao Php198

The hakao was pretty okay. The cover wasn't too thick and the shrimp inside was pretty big. However, for a hakao lover like I am, this failed to impress.

Steamed Chicken Feet Php108

I hated the chicken feet. Our former cook's version was way better. This was dry and the taste was way off.

Chef's Special Pan Fried Xiao Long Bao Php198

Thankfully, the fried xiao long bao saved the appetizers. This was the only one that wowed me.

Beef with Broccoli Php248

This was another saving grace for Modern Shanghai. It was easy to chew and the taste was really right. The broccoli was also half cooked which made it really crispy.

Overall, I would have to say that I don't see myself going back to this place. Normally Chinese food is comfort food for me but this time around, it failed to comfort me. Sad.
