a lesson learned from The Purge

I decided to watch this movie today with B at home. I was able to secure a copy of this and thought that it would be a fun movie to watch. After all, I've watched Walking Dead and Battle Royale with him before and I was able to explain what was happening and the do's and don'ts of it to my son.

Apparently, The Purge is an entirely different story.

The Purge tells the story of an All American family who has a son that won't listen and a daughter in love with the wrong kind of guy. Typical right? What isn't typical is that they live in a day and age where one day a year, crime is legal.

On this one night, the son decides to have a mind of his own and lets a guy being purged inside their homes. He wanted to save the man but in doing so, he endangers all of them.

This movie made me question my morals and myself. You see, I got mad at the little kid for saving the guy simply because he put everyone else in danger. I understand that saving someone's life is important but I need to be honest and at the end of the day, I will always choose my family over someone else's life.

B was affected by this movie. You see, sometime, he doesn't follow what I tell him and he saw himself in the little kid. He was worried that if he does something wrong again, he or we would suffer the same consequence.

I was just after watching a movie with my son but we got more than we bargained for.
