Jesus Christ Superstar

Saturday did not start out so well for me. A broken heart is never a good way to start the day but I digress. It  rained almost half the day and I felt lousy and lazy. I was supposed to meet my friend Mike but I didn't go through with it. I was just not in the mood to go out. I was supposed to watch a play with Chris but I also canceled on him.

Throughout the day, I got different invitations from different people to go elsewhere and I was so tempted. Then I remembered that I promised a friend of mine, Kevin, that I would support him on his stage play. I said to myself that if it stops raining by 5pm, I would go. 430pm and the rain stops. I sent a text to Chris and told him that it was a go.

The play itself which was done as a culminating activity by adult work-shoppers was a disaster. The Judas guy garbles his words and screams. He does not sing. He attempts but he fails miserably. The Jesus guy ... it may be blasphemous but it was the first time in my life that I saw Jesus as emo, egoistic, irrational, selfish, and self centered. He, too, cannot sing.

The highlight of the play was thankfully, Kevin. He played King Herod and he played it to the hilt. He was funny and IMO, he stole the show. He was in his element and in his character the whole time even when he was just standing in the corner. It was good to see someone who was in his element and who felt real passion for the theater.

He's the orange guy.

And here is my friend Chris who kept me company and with whom I exchanged a lot of verbal diarrhea with. Hahahaha.

us during intermission, extremely bored hahahaha

and the best photo of the night ...

chicken burger rocked!
Do I regret watching? Nope. Though it was not great, it was worth it because of Chris and because of Kevin ... both guys my good friends. :)

  2. I only read reviews about the stage play and/or musical of 'Jesus Superstar'. Accordingly it was so acclaimed and recommended, the cast were superb and the production was a total exchange of your money. I feel sorry about the outcome of a local version that it failed to impress you at all. I hope they will improve and make sure they give justice to this internationally recognize production.

Anyway...my congratulations to your friend for being a part of the show.

  3. Aww.. I've never been to any stage play. Loser talaga ako. :(

I've heard of the JCS, at daming nagsasabing maganda daw. So sorry naman at ang nawitness mo na play ay medyo disappointing. Good thing, there's Kevin! The silver lining. Congratulations sa kanya.

    P.S.

  11. stage play is quite difficult than making films. Walang take two and if you're nervous, the show will suffer. Good thing, they were able to pull the show off.

  12. bilib pa rin ako sa stage actors like julie said, walang take two so mahirap talaga. tagal ko ng di nakakanood ng play.

  13. I can totally relate on the laziness during rainy days! Haha.. Anyway, I'm always amused with plays. I haven't seen a lot yet, pero I really admire stage actors. It was nice that this play was saved by your friend, Kevin.. :)

  15. Ilang months sila nag workshop? Why kinapos pa rin ang performance? Nakakahiya naman na pati yun Jesus di marunong kumanta :-( Buti na lang Kevin saves the day for you!

I remember when I was little my mom always enroll me to summer workshops and we present our play to the public during recital and almost always we received good comments and we were just all 9 years old.

Hi! Let's all try to add more positivity in this world and adhere to the saying, "if you don't have anything nice to say, keep silent."

Showering you with unicorn poop so you'd always stay magical! Heart heart!
