how my love affair with eBooks began ...

I have always been a fan of books. I grew up with books, most likely because I saw my Mom reading and because for the most of my childhood, I really didn't have anything else to do except play and read. Growing up as an only child (sister was in the province) trains you to entertain yourself and I did that by reading, A LOT.

It started with small ones such as Sweet Dreams and Sweet Valley but by 5th grade I was reading Sidney Sheldon and the like. One day I read two Sidney Sheldon novels in one go which was a bad idea because I developed a headache so strong I ended up crying on my Mother's lap. From that day on, I vowed to stop myself from finishing two books in just one day especially when the books have at least 400 pages in it.

All throughout college years and even when I was working, I made time for my reading. I had a reading list so high it had its own reading list. I was one of those persons who always had a book with her. When eBooks came about, I scoffed at it and made a judgement.

Yes, I was one of those eBooks hater. I gave so many reasons as to why eBooks sucked such as you don't get to smell it and touch the books. You don't get to savor that moment. For a time, I tried giving it a chance and even got around 2,000 eBooks and hoarded a couple from other friends but I never really got into it.

Three weeks ago, I realized that I haven't read much at all. I have books piled high but since I also lug around pens, notebooks, and other things in my bag, adding a book just put too much strain on what is already a 10lbs bag. I just couldn't add more to what I was already carrying.

I thought of my tablet but also realized it was pretty heavy until I took it out of its case for a hosting event I did. It was then I realized my tablet was paper pad light. It was like a lightbulb went on in my head and I remembered all my eBooks.

Fast forward to now and I have read 3 books already on my list and I would like to add more to it. I realized I was wrong in judging it too soon and that regardless of form, reading is reading.

This is how my love affair with eBooks began.

  2. Ebooks are a great alternative to actual books! People who act all rude about them just simply haven't gotten to use a kindle and see its wonders

  3. I have never been a fan of ebooks. Primarily for the same reasons as you, I wanted to feel the book and smell it. That makes a big difference to me. However, I am not above trying them.

  4. I love to read, so I check out my local library. However, if I could get free eBooks of books that I love to read, I'd read on my tablet!

  6. I am not a fan of eBooks either! I would rather buy myself a copy than buy an eBook, but you can't really deny how convenient it is especially when you don't have enough space for a book in your bag.

  10. I had a Kindle and I now have an iPad, but I will always hold a special place for real books in my heart. I just love flipping through pages and actually holding a book!

  11. I'm a fan of both forms and eBooks tend to be more frequent for a wanderer like me. When I'm at home, my usual paper books and magazines are my best friends.

  15. I love ebooks when I am anywhere out of my home. At home I still prefer regular books but ebooks have made life easier when traveling.

  16. It took me awhile to warm up to e-books. I still prefer the feel of a book, and the feeling of turning a page. However, you cannot deny the convenience of being able to tote an entire library with you on your Kindle.

  17. I am always a picker of the real thing over an ebook but I will never turn away the chance to read a work by an author if it is only offered in ereader form.

Hi! Let's all try to add more positivity in this world and adhere to the saying, "if you don't have anything nice to say, keep silent."

Showering you with unicorn poop so you'd always stay magical! Heart heart!
