3 Lessons the NCOV Pandemic Taught Me

NCOV has finally hit Manila and it went from 0 to 5 deaths in just a few days.

Needless to say, Filipinos are rattled because if we're all going to be honest, we're one of those countries that are NOT EQUIPPED to survive a pandemic.

The fact that we have 2000 testing kits for a population of 10M should be evidence enough. It's sad. It's disheartening but as always, the Filipino will survive this with a smile on their faces, ready to wave when a camera passes by.

So, what has this taught me?

1. Health is wealth but there are people who will be susceptible and needs to be protected. I have a newborn and obviously, being a month old only, my baby doesn't have the strongest immune system yet.

It's scary for me as a Mom because we're so defenseless.

Yes, we take precautionary measures but how about the people we encounter on a daily basis? What if they don't take this seriously and do not take preventive measures?

We can stock up on multivitamins, veggies, and what not but all it takes is one droplet that gets transmitted for things to be over.

2. Fight or flight. People are wired to survive. This time, since there's no flight option, almost everyone is going on fight mode. Hoarding has begun, panic buying has set in, and a single cough or sneeze in public can easily turn you into public enemy number one most especially if you have fair skin and almond eyes.

It's a sad reality because honestly, hating on that Chinese looking person won't add another layer of protection for your safety.

3. I see your true colors. Crisis always brings out the best and worst in people. When the going gets tough, people will always reveal their true colors. People will either help others out or help only themselves.

This Corona Virus reminds me of movies involving end of the world and apocalypses. In the movies, it always shows two kinds of people and now, it's exactly what is happening to the real world.

It's a sad reality but it's our reality. Hopefully, things change and people realize that just like in the movies, the only way people will survive is if everyone helps each other out.

  2. The right information is the KEY. Without panic, but rationally, we make the decisions that are most appropriate to the situation.

  3. What an eye-opening post. Such a sad reality that health = wealth in a country ill-equipped to deal with a pandemic. I am sending you much good energy for continued good health for you and your family!

  7. My friend's mom was one of the 5 deaths in Manila. His father is fighting for his life. But, this is a great post as it is sad what a crisis can do to people. My friend wants love and understanding from the people around him for his mom's death, but there is already talking negative about her death. They blame her for something that happened. Why be negative in a sad moment.

  8. People here are hoarding things like toilet paper and diapers. Just today Louisiana Governor closed all the schools in the state for a month. People are honestly the worst part of this virus

  9. I agree all of these and very timing post. Many people are getting getting worse especially to those people who already hoard alcohol and they sell it overprice I'm kind of pissed though.

  10. It's a grim reality of most of the developing countries. The key is to practice excellent hygiene in these testing times.

  12. Listening to reliable sources is important. Many people are panicking over things they hear that are not fact based and going crazy.

  13. Reading and watching about all this is so sad. The lives that have been taken by the virus, the family who.suffered the loss, the anxiety of those wondering where it would come from and the helplessness. May God have mercy on us.
