I cannot not love you ...

I cannot not love you
I cannot not be there for you
I cannot not want to understand you
when you are so hard to understand
when you are so hard on yourself
when you are so hard not to love.

10 highlights of the AsiaPopComicon 2017

I have been invited to the Asia Pop Comicon last year and because I was an idiot, I simply assigned it to my staff instead of going myself. Having gone this year, I wanna kick myself now for not going last year.

Anyway, this year, I finally went because it turns out D has never been to a Comicon and so I thought, why not just go with him? Thankfully, we were approved for media passes which is pretty neat. #Excited

Now, here are the 10 highlights of the Asia Pop Comicon FOR ME. Let's be clear. These are the highlights for me. First up!

The first thing I heard when I entered was the OST of The Walking Dead which made my heart pump. For those who know me, you guys know how addicted I am to The Walking Dead. I am so invested in that series. Finally, I got the chance to see a walker up close and also Terminus After all, those who arrive, survive.

Find someone who looks at you the way this zombie looked at me. Hahahaha.
Second one was getting this shot of D using the ASUS Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro. I loved the overall outcome of this shot.

3rd for me were all the cosplay that was happening.  There were a lot of really great cosplayers and I wish that next year, APCC will put a section where the cosplayers get 30minutes each to pose and show off their hard work on their costumes while people get to take their photos with them properly and without distraction. Hard work needs to be recognized. Seriously.

Saw my ex with a girl in yellow. HAHAHAHAHA.

Can I bring you home please?

4th highlight was the Netflix area. So much love and so much feels for this place. Riverdale is love while Stranger Things just have really good props.

5th was the stickers. I never knew our local artits were so kawaii nowadays. I wanted to buy all of them. I really, really do.

6th was getting to meet Ray Fisher, him hugging me and saying "oh my God, you are so beautiful!" Ang haba ng hair ko!!!

7th were the merchandise that were on sale. The sale is crazy because there were price cuts from 4500 to 1000.

8th is being able to give away tickets and making people happy. Here are the winners of the giveaway.

9th is hanging out with friends who geek out with you.

And the 10th is just being able to experiment with how I looked. Fine, it's not an experiment per se but that I was forced to learn to cover up blemishes and what not coz I had so many on those days.

So there. I am not a full on geek or part of any fandom but I did enjoy seeing Asia Pop Comicon and it was very enlightening. I'd definitely go ahead and cover it again next year. For now, I will indulge in binge watching Stranger Things, GoT, and Orange is the New Black.

On Uber's suspension

Today, people woke up to the news that Uber was no longer available in the Philippines.

There has been a lot of reactions and violent reactions. Most people are upset because the convenience of their daily ride is now gone. A few have defended LTFRB saying Grab complied and Uber did not which is why they are suspended. For those not aware, Grab and Uber were allowed to continue operating as long as they comply with a certain parameter that was set which Uber did not heed.

Is Uber wrong? YES.

Is LTFRB right in sanctioning them? Yes, BUT ....

The sanction given by LTFRB is way too harsh. We say this because the taxi companies who have been violating LTFRB rules FOR YEARS are still operating and have never been suspended for a month. This is what the LTFRB has granted Uber as sanction. This is the part that riles most people. Taxis can get away with anything.

Uber cannot operate for a month. A MONTH.

The taxi companies and drivers have been vocal about their own violation. It has even become a way of life before which is why people were more than quick enough to welcome Uber with open arms when they came into the picture. If LTFRB had done their job, there wouldn't even be a need for Uber. If LTFRB had fixed the root cause of the problem, there wouldn't be a need for a ride sharing app.

So what is the root cause of all of this?

LTFRB and their selfish ways. This governing body does not look out for it's people and the people they need to be serving. Taxi drivers become greedy bastards because the taxi operators and companies put too high a quota for them to meet daily. The flag down is Php40 and has been the same for many years. The taxi drivers need to make a living and so a lot of them resort to unlawful ways.

LTFRB should have taken a serious look at this problem and fixed this a long time ago. It has now become a cancer that needs major chemo to fix. That or we just cut off the heads of the entire LTFRB because they obviously won't do their job the way it's supposed to be done. We mean this figuratively of course.

This suspension shows how LTFRB does not thoroughly think their decisions. It also proves that they really do not give a damn about the public. They keep using band aid solutions when people like James Deakin have been giving them suggestions that can work for all involved. We also fully support this:

So every application that has not been processed in the allowed time, or every bus, jeep or taxi company that has been allowed to operate even after not paying the victims of crashes, or every complaint from passengers that has not been addressed, they (LTFRB), too should be suspended.

SERVE THE PUBLIC LTFRB, not your own personal interest.

As for the sanction on Uber, sanction them if you must but not at the cost of the public. Have them pay a hefty fine but do not suspend what has become the most trusted ride sharing in the country. If you feel that the sanction is just, apply it to ALL, not just to one.

Be fair. Be consistent. Serve the people. For the love of God, serve the PEOPLE.

Fun with Hinoki Paper Shoot

I never got into the whole Lomo Cam fad. I just couldn't understand back then why you would want shots that were already filtered or have a fish eye view. Sometimes it can be fun but most of the time, it just weirded me out.

When D mentioned trying out the paper camera, I was a little iffy but hanging out with him has taught me to just say go so I did. We got our hands on the Hinoki Paper Shoot and my first reaction was, "it's so tiny!"

After a week or so, I finally got to try it out and lo and behold, I actually had fun with it. So, there are 4 filters that go with it. Normal, black and white, cold, and sepia. I took different shots inside my home, outside our village and even the skies. I have to say that I actually like the end product and that some of the shot are even very clear.

Lovin' the vibe of this shot.

The old feel of this photo is something that I can get used to.

I am so surprised that this was very clear.

Artistic? I think it's pretty good.

I had fun shooting around the metro and would definitely love to have my own Hinoki. I feel like it lets you explore more than a normal camera. If you can get your hands on one, I suggest you do coz it brings back the fun in taking photos.

Zenfone Selfie vs Zenfone 3 Zoom

I've reviewed so many phones in the past few months. I've handled VIVO, OPPO, Samsung, LG, and Huawei among others. Some of them have claimed to be the selfie expert and the others say they take the perfect selfie. This left me wondering because a year ago, I had the chance to hold in my hand the ASUS Zenfone Selfie which was the first selfie phone, way before the other brands came up with their own selfie phones.

I even used it during my Hong Kong trip. It also came with the beautification component way before other phones had it. I liked the beautification of the Zenfone Selfie because it was very mild. The beautification of other phones nowadays are just a little over the top and makes you look fake or cartoonish.

My unboxing of the ASUS Zenfone Selfie. My full review of the ASUS Zenfone Selfie.

Nowadays, I use the Zenfone 3 Zoom as my primary phone and I am happy with the photos it takes but I am more ecstatic with the videos. The stabilizer of the Zenfone 3 Zoom is simply awesome. One time I was talking to D and I told him that I missed the photos taken with the Zenfone Selfie and he said, why don't I compare the 2 phones and finally, we did yesterday.

As you can see, both photos turned out well but for me, the Zenfone Selfie looks more real while the Zenfone 3 Zoom is more IG ready and does not need filters because it already does that for you. I remember taking so many selfies with the ASUS Zenfone Selfie and now with the ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom, I tend to take more videos.

I love how ASUS Zenfone is able to give me what I need in terms of social media by continuously upping their game and their brand. I also like that they do not claim to be anything and just let their phones speak for itself.

I've recommended these phones to so many people and no one has ever gotten back to me to complain so I guess they loved the product as much as I do. Right now, my laptop is an ASUS Zenbook, my phone is the Zenfone 3 Zoom, and my powerbank (the one I trust the most to not fail me) is by ASUS.

Also you guys know I only post about products that I actually really use here on Life and yes, this is not a sponsored post. I wish it was. I sure could use the money hahahaha.

So there you go. If you can still get your hands on an ASUS Zenfone Selfie, I'd highly recommend it because it really has the best selfie camera in town hands down to this day. My over 2000+ selfies should convince you that I know my stuff when it comes to selfies. Also the fact that I almost always win when it comes to selfie contests that I join.

Disney's Descendants 2

How is life for the children of the world's most hated people in the cartoon world? What is it like to be the child of Maleficent or Jafar? Are they just as evil as their parents or did the apple fall far from the tree? These are some of the questions that have been answered during Descendants 1 but the adventure didn't end there.

The adventures of the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains continues in the highly anticipated Disney Channel Original Movie “Descendants 2”! What happens when the Villain Kids face off against a new group of villains who have more “ways to be wicked” than they do? The contemporary, music-driven sequel, which has already broken ratings records in the US, premieres Sunday, 20 August, 10am on Disney Channel (Cignal Ch 32/SKYcable Ch 47 (SD) and Ch 250 (HD)). Fans in the Philippines can also enjoy “Descendants 2” on the Disney Channel App, available for download on the Google Play Store and App Store.

Reprising their roles as the Villain Kids are:
  • Mal (Dove Cameron), daughter of Maleficent, the Mistress of all Evil from “Sleeping Beauty
  • Evie (Sofia Carson), daughter of the cruel Evil Queen from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
  • Carlos (Cameron Boyce), the son of fashion-obsessed villainess Cruella de Vil from “101 Dalmatians
  • Jay (Booboo Stewart), the son of powerful sorcerer Jafar from “Aladdin
The movie introduces a new group of villains who form the menacing Pirate Gang:
  • Uma (China Anne McCain), the leader of the Pirate Gang and daughter of Ursula, the villainous sea-witch from “The Little Mermaid”.
  • Harry (Thomas Dougherty), the son of cunning pirate Captain Hook from “Peter Pan”.
  • Gil (Dylan Playfair), the son of arrogant, chauvinistic Gaston in “Beauty and the Beast”.
The story begins with the gang of Villain Kids settling into their new lives in the idyllic kingdom of Auradon. When the pressure to fit in becomes too overwhelming for Mal, she returns to the Isle of the Lost which is now dominated by her archenemy, Uma, and her Pirate Gang, who plan to unleash all the villains imprisoned on the Isle. The story culminates in a climatic and action-packed battle where both sides face off to fight for what they believe is right.
A rich story full of adventure and heart, “Descendants 2” is centered on the themes of self-discovery, friendship, teamwork and empowerment, as the characters learn to stay true to themselves and discover their individuality.

Set to edgy, contemporary and fresh new music, the show features a brand new cover of “Kiss The Girl” from the 1989 animated film “The Little Mermaid” and six original songs, including the high-energy opening number “Ways To Be Wicked” and toe-tapping pop rock anthem, “What’s My Name”.

Emmy Award-winning director Kenny Ortega is the director, executive producer and choreographer. The movie premiere of “Descendants 2” in the US (July 21, 2017) bested two years of US cable TV ratings, and the soundtrack topped the iTunes charts within the first week of its release.

Now to win a very exclusive goody bag which includes 3 books from the Descendants novel series, a Descendants-themed notebook, keychain and a Disney Channel tumbler, you just need to answer this question: "When will Descendants 2 air on Disney Channel in the Philippines?"

Comment your answer below and we will randomly draw the winner. Contest runs from August 4 to 6. Winner will be announced on August 7. Good luck. There will be only one winner.

Your Summer Party Is Incomplete Without...

Ah, summer. It really wouldn’t be summer without a party or two, especially with great British weather we have been having this year! Instead of propping up the kitchen sink and worrying about the state of your cream carpet as friends get merry on red wine, you can entertain everyone outdoors instead.

The great thing about outdoor entertaining is that no matter how much mess you make, it’s easy to clear up the next day. Sure, a few plants might end up trampled or plucked from their pots, but if it all descends into madness, you can hose the patio furniture down and embark on a treasure hunt looking for stray cocktail glasses and plates.

But, before you reach the ‘morning after the night before’ clean-up stage, you need to get into party planning mode. To help you prepare for your next summer party, check out the following must-have items to make your summer party one to remember.

A Glamping Tent
OK, so the weather doesn’t always play ball. That much we know. But, instead of fretting about the possibility of rain on the day, be a happy little camper and cover all bases. Since rain tends to put a damper on summer parties (literally), erect a glamping tent for tables, chairs, and food. The best way to do this is to invest in a sturdy gazebo and drape coloured fabric over the frame to hide the boring waterproof material. Decorate your tent/gazebo with lights, flowers, and anything else that fits your party theme.

A Fruit Tree

Everyone loves to dig in to juicy melon, delicious strawberries and grapes on a hot day! It is a refreshing and light catering option.  A fruit tree is the perfect option for a large group, hire this fruit tree and yours will come as a stunning palm tree centrepiece with 400 pieces.  Mix it with a chocolate fountain if you want it to serve more people.

Decorative Garlands

Decorative garlands look fabulous. Make your own using coloured paper – I love ice-cream cone garlands – or string together flowers and balloons. Thread your garlands through the trees and around the dining area.
Solar String Lights

Solar light strings are just as pretty as paper and flower garlands, but they really come into their own at night. There are loads of fun designs to choose from, so take your pick. The good news is that solar string lights are seriously cheap, so you can buy them in bulk and transform your garden into a fairy grotto after dark.

Shabby Chic Candle Holders

Candles are not just decorative – they also help to keep pesky bugs away from you and your food. Scoffing a tasty burger and sipping a sweet glass of fruit punch is not much fun if you are being eaten alive by mosquitoes and wasps. Light a few citronella candles and place them in hand-decorated glasses. Use small, shallow glasses filled with fragrant lavender sprigs. Your table will smell delicious as well as being a bug-free zone.

Tiki Torches and Grass Table Skirts

Aloha! Give your summer party a Hawaiian theme. Light some tiki torches to guide your guests around the garden once the sun sets. Decorate the table with a grass skirt and paper flower gardens. If you want to go the extra mile, screen Magnum PI or Hawaii 5-0 in the background.

Handmade Table Runners

Table runners add a touch of homespun charm to a summer party. Make your own by weaving wool on a simple loom. It’s easier than you think. Check out some videos on YouTube for inspiration or buy a kit like this one. You never know, you might end up hooked on weaving.

Reclaimed Bottle Vases

Poke around in your recycling bin and look for glass bottles. Any bottles will do. Soak them in water to remove labels, tie a ribbon around the neck, and fill them with flowers on the day. Fresh flowers make excellent table decorations, plus they smell heavenly.

Piñatas

We love these summer inspired pinatas or, if you’re looking for an entertaining game on a hot, summer’s day, look no further than water Piñatas. Fill up balloons with water and jelly sweets and invite the kids to whack them with wooden sticks. What’s not to like about being drenched in water and sweets?

Flower Box Drinks Coolers

Create a rustic drinks cooler from a timber flower box. Line the box with plastic and fill it with ice, bottles, and cans. Chilled beer sure beats warm beer every day of the week.

Themed Cupcakes

Decorate cupcakes according to your chosen theme and arrange them in a cupcake tower. Get the kids on board and ask them to decorate your cupcakes with frosted icing and edible flowers.
Don’t let the weather ruin your party. As long as you have some fun guests, plenty of drink, and cool tunes, it’s bound to be memorable for all the right reasons!
