the year that was 2015

2015 was a pretty good year for me if I may say so. I learned a lot of things, realized who my friends were especially in the blogging world, and found out things about myself that I never knew was real or true. It wasn't as successful as I had hoped for it to be but it was better than what I had in mind.

On family

I'd like to think that this year, I grew closer to my siblings and the funny thing is, we talk more via Messenger than in person and this is because we each have our own lives with our own crazy schedules. I'm happy that we stay connected via online chat and that instead of it disconnecting us, we worked around it to stay on top of things.

My Mom is also better. She's finally getting out of her funk and starting to be interested in doing business once more. YAY! She really needs to stop moping about my Dad and just move on with life. She deserves better and she needs to make space for that something better.

My son is also growing up. He is having his own personality and sometimes it can be pretty painful for the two of us but I am hoping that we are forging a strong bond together where there will be moments of hate but I hope that there will be more moments of love, understanding, patience, and forgiveness especially on my part.

On friends

This year started with me losing a dear friend and it hurt. Throughout the year, I lost other friends, some of them mattered and some didn't but each betrayal tore at me. I never did understand why people backstab each other. There is just no point to it. If you don't want to be friends anymore, just stop.

Thankfully, this year also saw me gaining not just friends but a second family and this came in the form of a camp that my sister and I just chanced upon on. I learned this year that friendships come and go but the ones who are meant to last in your life, they will stay.

On work

This year, I put blogging behind for 6 months to work in a web development company called You_Source. It may not have been the best idea but for a time, I liked the security of it. Now, I'm going to focus on blogging and working on building my social media presence. I did learn a lot from the company I was with and I don't regret what I did. It helped me see which PR companies I should put more value on and which ones I should just treat on a need to know basis.

On love

I started the year in love with someone, fell in love with someone else midyear, and ended the year with no one to call mine and I couldn't be any happier. I finally let go of the toxic men in my life and the men who do not deserve me.

On fitness

I finally started working out but I have to be honest. I didn't take it seriously but December came in and I realized that after having missed Yawyan Alasan for 2 months, I missed it. I missed the pain, I missed the grills but most of all, I miss sweating and flushing out all the toxins. I missed being able to do things I never dreamed of and being able to jump, kick, punch, and be stronger than I ever thought possible. I am just so grateful that Coach has been so supportive and Yawyan is not just a fitness center or a form of martial art but a family.

2015 was good overall but 2016, I OWN YOU.

love in 2015 and love in 2016

I started 2015 still in love with the funny man. I know, it was pathetic seeing as we broke up early 2013 but the heart wanted what it wanted and till the beginning of 2015, it wanted the funny man. Also, he kept seeing me and so I thought maybe there would be an us again even though he was dating some young girl back then already. I was in way over my head and I refused to recognize the fact that I was making a fool of myself and I was letting him cheat on someone with me.

It was wrong.

March I met YM. He was funny, he was tall, and he was smart. He also made time for me and would even drive me around to events just to spend a little time with me. I realized then that should I let it happen, I could fall for this guy. In hindsight, I think I allowed myself to love YM just so I can check myself and see if I could be with someone else aside from the funny man. After all, I have been in love with the same guy for roughly 4 years and he had stopped loving me after the one year mark. It was time.

However, as with any rash decisions, this YM didn't work out and it didn't even take me one month to get over him. I realized that I was more in love with the idea of falling in love again rather than with the man himself.

In 2015, I started with the wrong love and ended it with the wrong kind of love as well. In 2016, I will settle for nothing less than the right kind of love. If I don't find it, then I don't. I would rather be alone than be with someone for the wrong reasons. I deserve to be loved and accepted for who I am, I deserve to be wooed and courted and made to feel wanted and desired. If there is no man who would do that for me, then I just have to accept that perhaps, God has other plans for me and those plans do not involve a love life.

So 2016, you either send me the man of my dreams and God's perfect plan for me or we keep my heart intact, beating strongly, and on its own. Okay? Okay.

PS. Heart, please do not fall in love with the wrong man again. Please?

Growrich Virgin Coconut Oil

As I got older, my Mom would often tell me to take supplements to help slow down the aging process. She would tell me to take this and that so that I would be stronger, able to do things that I want to do, and still look younger than my age.

I never really listened to her until I hit 35 and started feeling my age. When I would wake up tired after an 11 hour sleep or with little energy when I lack sleep, I realized that I wasn't as young as I used to be. When I saw white hair (TWO!) I realized that I wasn't that ready to look my age either.

When I learned about Growrich Virgin Coconut Oil, I was intrigued, and I said to myself, I'd give it a try. After all, this is what they have to offer.

Salutare Inc. is the exclusive distributor of Growrich Virgin Coconut Oil, both locally and internationally. It is pure virgin coconut oil in a hard gel capsule. It is the healthiest oil on earth. It is extracted from fresh coconut meat by natural means and is chemically free without subjecting the oil to heat. It is the First and Patented Virgin Coconut Oil in hard gels approved by our Food and Drugs Administration (FDA).

Virgin Coconut Oil as a food supplement, is highly recommended by physicians for its numerous health benefits, including the following:

- helps build and maintain our immune system
- has natural antioxidant properties
- boosts energy and vitality
- improves our ability to absorb important minerals
- promotes weight loss
- helps in bacterial/fungal/viral infection
- reduces the risk of heart attacks, strokes and cancer
- lowers cholesterol
- helps improve poor skin texture and reduces falling hair
- prevents constipation
- promotes lauric acid in breast-feeding mothers
- helps in the proper distribution of nutrients throughout the body
- Indeed, since Salutare, Inc. launched the product in 2005, - consumer response and demand has been phenomenal, and the - Growrich brand has a loyal and growing customer base.

I'm glad that I found this and have started taking it. My mind has been sharper, my strength a lot better, and it helps with digestion which in turn helps me with my quest to lose weight. The fact that it costs Php8 per capsule is also a big thing because at least its affordable. It can also be brought easily at Watsons, Manson Drug, South Star Drug, and Mercury Drug.

Christmas 2015

It was a simple celebration but I really love how we spend our Christmas eve. The twins and our Mom are always the one who cooks while K and I are errand girls, well K more than me.

We had dinner and then later on, the twins and B played Scrabble while my Mom, K and I sang our hearts out and posted a lot of stuff on our Snapchat (@mskathykenny). It was a lot of fun though it was nothing grandiose.

So from my family to yours, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a kulayful New Year. We have been blessed and we hope that everyone has been as well.

Titus Pens

Everyone who knows me knows that I have been forever obsessed with pens and coloring pencils. I use it to write on my journal, color books, letter on my scrapbooks, and just about everywhere. I have over 1000 pens to date and last week, Titus Pens added more color to my collection which I totally love!

They recently held a Doodling contest and it was the first time that I saw these many talented artists in one area.

It was a fun day for doodlers all over the country because there were invited guests who taught how to doodle for fashion, food, and comic books.

They also held a contest for an on the spot doodling contest and they were given a theme. Some of the doodles that were created simply blew my mind. However, there were of course some who just really did amazing and they took home the prize.

Starbucks opens 2016 with Awesome Treats

One of the things that I have learned to look forward to after Starbucks releases their planner is what new merchandise they have for Valentines and Chinese New Year or CNY for short. This time around, I did not have to wait for long because I finally know what to expect.

I already have the CNY card and I super love it. I guess the fact that I was born in the Year of the Monkey makes me bias but it's really cute. The Valentine card looks quite dainty to me too.

The Starbucks Espresso Confections are also something to definitely look forward to. Chestnut White Chocolate Truffle and Strawberry Red Velvet Mocha sounds heavenly and knowing Starbucks, these will be definite hits. This will be available on January 8, 2016.

From Starbucks: Usher in the new year as we showcase our commitment to coffee artistry by taking espresso to a whole new level with the latest additions to the Starbucks® Espresso Confections line: the Strawberry Red Velvet Mocha and Chestnut White Chocolate Truffle. These decadent beverages are inspired by the elegance of candy confections with flavors that can only be found in the finest boxes of chocolates, but only perfected as beverages by Starbucks® baristas – our true espresso artists.

Celebrate the special festivities of the Lunar New Year as you spend time with family and friends in ringing in the year ahead. Starbucks is featuring a collection of masterfully roasted packaged coffees that celebrates Starbucks® passion for coffee and pairs well with sweet Lunar New Year treats such as the Guatemala Casi Cielo. A Latin American coffee with elegant flavor complexity, a unique floral aroma, lemon-like acidity and dark cocoa finish. These coffee beans are expertly roasted to showcase subtle floral aromas, citrusy brightness and lingering chocolate taste. It is a remarkable coffee with a depth and versatility, perfect for a variety of special occasions at home.

I'm excited to try out the Casi Cielo because it has that Cocoa finish that I love in my coffee. I'll do a short review of it on my Instagram account soon. For the Reserve branches, this is what people need to look forward to.

With new beverages comes new food items and I simply look forward to the Calamansi Cheesecake and the Salted Belgian Chocolate Cookie the most. They simply look deliciously sinful.

Calamansi Cheesecake

Creamy Tomato Chicken Pasta

Ham and Cheese French Baguette

Katsu Roll

Salted Belgian Chocolate Cookie
For the Reserve branches I wanna try the blueberry muffin and scones.

Blueberry Muffin

Scones

3 Cheese Croissant
Most of all, I look forward to the Starbucks Coffee Wafer Rolls. I love the can.

Oh and the tumbler. Teehee, the tumbler. It makes me giddy. The monkey is adorable.

Thank you Starbucks for always making sure that we have something to look forward to when welcoming the New Year and this time around, we can't wait to swing by soon as 2016 opens.

Marriott Thanksgiving Party

One of the things that endears a brand to me is when they show appreciation for all the hard work and support that this blog has given them. I'm not asking for anything over the top; a simple thank you note would suffice but since Marriott is Marriott, they gave us thank you notes in the form of ginger bread houses and invited us to dine at M Cafe where we stuffed ourselves silly. There was also a raffle for staycations at Marriott Hotel which is what a real staycation is about. I've done a staycation here twice and I still look forward every time I have one.

I love how Marriott is all about quiet splendor. It is elegant and classy. It is all about great service and customer service that makes you feel like family, not just a customer.

Marriott is not just a partner brand. They have become a family and I seriously look forward to supporting them in everything they do for 2016. Cheers.

when meeting someone you met online ...

I met this guy online. He added me on WeChat and because he had the same name as a former coworker of mine, I added him. It was already too late when I realized that he was not who I thought he was. I have already added him.

He was very aggressive right from the start. He wanted to meet up but he didn't have any photos online. This set off red flags on my end. After all, it is not normal to just wanna meet someone right off the bat. I felt he was rushing things and since we were not in a race, this came off as quite iffy to me.

Afterwards, he would continue pushing for a meeting by dropping hints here and there. If we didn't get to talk for half a day, he would say he missed me. I knew that there was something wrong. He was either really pathetic, overly clingy, a stalker in the making, or an outright liar who just wanted sweet talk his way into getting me to bed with him. All these were not good.

Finally, I agreed to meet him but it was in a coffee shop where I knew the baristas. He agreed but soon as he got to the coffee shop, he called and asked me to step outside. He said to just get in the car because he was wearing house clothes and was shy.

Silent bells just rang in my head. The hair at the back of my head stood and it felt like alarms were going off. It just came off wrong. I felt like he was hurrying to get me into his car. For some reason, I had visions of being punched, electrocuted, or smacked soon as I get into his car so I said NO.

I told him that we agreed to meet inside the coffee shop, not in his car. He insisted. He was saying that since he will take me home anyway, might as well get inside the car. This just made me more wary. I mean, it wasn't right. It was just so OFF. When I told him that I will call the guard's attention if he continues to insist that I go to his car, he got mad and hanged up the phone. The next message I got was that he was leaving.

So ladies, let this be a warning. When meeting someone you met online ...

1. set it at a public place
2. go to the venue by yourself and leave it by yourself
3. do not let him pick you up nor take you home (remember that whatever you know of him online could all be lies.)
4. if he makes you feel uncomfortable in any way, LEAVE ... you are not obliged to stay
5. if he tries to manipulate you in any way to get you alone (his room, house, or car) DON'T

A real gentleman will not force you or make you feel obliged to do something you are not comfortable with. If a guy tries to make you do anything you don't want to, then that guy is not worth your time. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT.

So to you RAM or RRR on WeChat, I wasn't being "presko" or "feeling artista" as you put it. You were the one out of line and you were the one wrong when you tried manipulating me into getting into your car. You are a jerk and I hope you get your karma real soon. You are a creep and I honestly believe that you are up to no good.

Ladies, beware.

hurt hurts ...

I knew she existed. He and I, we've talked about her and I knew that she was in his life for quite some time now. I guess I didn't believe she would last long with him. Some silly part of my brain thought that they would eventually break up so when I saw that they had a photo out of town (another one) I wasn't prepared for it.

Stupid right?

We haven't even spoken. The last time we spoke to each other was on my birthday where he called to greet me perfunctorily. I'm pretty sure it meant nothing to him. It was just something he had to do.

Wake up.
Eat.
Take a bath.
Go to work.
Call Geom and greet her.
Forget about her.
Go on with my life.
Go back to my girl.

We haven't seen each other since October as well when I saw him back in his hotel when he was sick. It's been 2 months and so I don't understand why it affected me the way that it did. Is it because at the back of my head, I thought that the fact that we kept seeing each other even though we have broken up meant something? He was always there years after we parted ways. It had to mean something right?

IT DIDN'T.

Last night, when I saw that photo, I realized, no matter how much time has passed by, no matter how much I delude myself, it seems I will never really get over him. He will always have the ability to hurt me without even trying simply because he has moved on and I am left, stranded, standing on the same spot where he left me.

And last night, I learned that hurt hurts ... no matter how long ago it has been, hurt still hurts. I'm just glad that he no longer reads my blog nor view my posts. After all, he's moved on and is finally happy. Hopefully, I'll be able to say the same thing soon.

feelings

Thought I'd feel a pinch
Twas more of a punch in the gut
When I saw you w/her.

Disney on Ice says Let It Go

One of the things that I used to look forward to when I was a kid was hearing all about Disney on Ice. I would find out who would be featured and I would imagine watching them. Sadly, this has never happened in real life because Araneta is simply too far away and they always have a show during the Christmas season.

This year though, it seems that I will finally have the chance to see the show and a great bonus is not only The Little Mermaid performing, Belle will also be there, Rapunzel, and Anna and Elsa from Frozen. Now on its 33rd year, Disney on Ice presents Magical Ice Festival.

This year's grand production will showcase a medley of splendid set elements, impressive light display, and costume pieces, along with show stopping performances by a cast of world class skaters, Sure to amaze everyone who will be watching, Disney on Ice will take you in a winter wonderland and have you singing Let It Go in no time at all.

The show runs from December 25 to January 3. Tickets are now on sale via Ticketnet website or call 911-5555.

The Force Awakens at the GATEWAY DOLBY ATMOS Cinema

I grew up with a home theater system that had surround sound which basically ruined a lot of theaters for me because I grew up with one of the best home theater systems and thus, I learned to expect only the best when I watch movies. Most of the time, it leads me to be disappointed when I watch films but last night was definitely NOT one of those nights.

Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens was definitely the best movie to mark the grand launch of the biggest Dolby Atmos Cinema in the country which is located at Gateway Mall, Araneta Center. Featuring a revolutionary audio platform that creates powerful, moving audio using audio objects and overheard speakers, Gateway Mall's Dolby Atmos Cinema boasts of sounds that come from all directions, the dialogue, and the music of the onscreen story move all around the audience in three-dimensional space, transporting them into the scenes and putting them in the middle of the action.

Watching Star Wars last night with the Dolby Atmos speakers was simply amazing. I really did feel that I was inside the Star Wars Universe and I felt every blast that was ever hurled. The 53 speakers and 5 subwoofers made sure that the experience was fantastic. Each speaker is powered independently and has is own separate audio feed which results to having every sound in the scene reproduced in all 3 dimensions.

For more information and details from Araneta Center, visit their official website at www.aranetacenter.net

Shell V-Power Nitro+ ends the year with Puzzles and Excitement

It was just in recent months that I learned how important the kind of gas that you put in your car. It can apparently either make it better or make your car deteriorate like nothing else will. Thankfully, Shell knows this and has come up with something that can address and ensure that this never happens to your car. After all, car issues can cost a lot and no one wants to spend a lot of money on something that can be avoided.

In the 365 days in a year, any ordinary day can turn out to be filled with pleasant surprises. Unknown to some, these pleasant surprises can be claimed in exploring paths and finding new discoveries on the road. As the year 2015 comes to a close, Pilipinas Shell encourages motorists to claim the exciting drives they deserve with their premium performance fuel, Shell V-Power Nitro+.

“As we celebrate the coming yuletide season and mark the wonderful memories of this year, we Filipinos also deserve to revel in the simple joys and exceptional adventures on the road,” said Pilipinas Shell Vice President for Retail, Anthony Lawrence Yam. “More than getting to destinations, we share the passion of Filipino motorists in giving their vehicles utmost care in fueling their exciting drives.”

Fervent in educating motorists about the two performance-robbing threats, gunk and corrosion, Shell continues to showcase how Shell V-Power Nitro+ can help Filipino motorists bring their exciting drives to life. Road warriors continue to win against the double threats to their engine’s performance with Shell’s latest generation of premium performance fuels, Shell V-Power Nitro+.

Known for its commitment to innovation and technology, Shell developed an immersive 360-degree visual experience using the Gear VR technology. As an integrated educational tool to share to motorists about the two performance-robbing threats that can occur inside an engine, this experience took the audience on a journey inside the engine to learn about the performance benefits of using Shell V-Power Nitro+.

From a virtual reality experience, to an adrenaline-filled activity, Shell V-Power Nitro+ demonstrated the rush of excitement as it launched the Choose Excitement Challenge to the media. In this thrilling dare, different media personalities put their wit to the test as they unraveled clues and solved puzzles in a specially designed truck to find the missing formula of Shell V-Power Nitro+ Diesel.

Seriously, the virtual reality thing was a little insane. I actually almost jumped out of my seat when it started. It felt so real that I had to continuously remind myself that it wasn't and it was all in my head.

As for the puzzle inside the track, I learned that Cie and I make a good team because we were very supportive of each other and we didn't fight. Haha. It was fun and very challenging.

In escaping the terror of gunk and corrosion in the room, the same victory can be felt by motorists who fuel their engines with Shell V-Power Nitro+ fuels, Shell’s premium performance fuels designed to fight gunk and corrosion. Gunk or engine deposit is a battle that motorists face every day. The use of lower class fuels can cause gunk to build-up on critical fuel system components like the diesel fuel injectors—which can rob engines of power.

Shell V-Power Nitro+ Diesel is formulated with powerful cleaning agents that help remove engine deposits or gunk and is also designed to protect engines’ fuel system with an anti-corrosion component that forms a protective film on metal surfaces. This helps prevent corrosion tendency and helps to protect precision fuel system components.

Regular maintenance for motorists can be as challenging as unraveling a mystery. Beyond regular maintenance, the daily use of premium quality fuels can bring road warriors a thrilling experience on the road. With a well-maintained vehicle, conquering uphill tracks, rough terrains, and even the bustling city streets becomes a piece of cake. Shell V-Power Nitro+ Diesel helps motorists reclaim their engine’s performance as they make their thrilling road adventures come to life.

“We want our customers to make every mile a moment before the year comes to a close by claiming their extraordinary road adventure they deserve. With Shell’s best ever premium performance diesel, Shell V-Power Nitro+ Diesel, we want our customers to win against the threats that can hamper their engine’s performance,” said Yam.

So whether Filipino drivers fill up their cars with Shell V-Power Nitro+ Gasoline, Ferrari’s choice for improved performance, Shell V-Power Nitro+ Diesel, Shell’s best ever premium performance diesel, or Shell V-Power Nitro+ Racing, Shell’s top performance gasoline, Shell V-Power Nitro+ encourages Filipino motorists to bring their exciting drives to life.

this is what HAPPY looks like ...

Tonight, it was raining cats and dogs but it didn't stop us from celebrating my Mom's 52nd birthday. We had dinner at Acacia Hotel and seeing the smile on our Mom's face made all the hassle worth it.

I bought her a Yema Cake and had it decorated with flowers and butterflies. She loved it. In fact, weird enough, she cried when we surprised her with it. I mean, I was hoping she would like it but not make her cry. Still, it felt good seeing our Mom happy.

My brother had another surprise for our Mom. He had the staff of Acacia Hotel sing to our Mom and she was really surprised by it.

Our little sister got her a glass case with 3 bottles of cologne which she loved. I personally love this shot because you can see the love in our Mom's face.

It was a simple dinner but it was full of love and though I may have been feeling a little down lately, tonight, I was reminded of what mattered in life and it was the people in these photo. They are what matters and they are what makes me happy.

This is what HAPPY looks like. This is what happiness is. Happy 52nd birthday Mommy. I love you very much.

Doc Pao's most wonderful time of the Year

Christmas is fast approaching and at a time when a lot of our fellow countrymen still seem to be down in the dumps and financially not stable, a lot of people are not feeling the Christmas spirit. Some have even refused to celebrate because they feel the pressure to spend for a feast, gifts, and what not. However, Dr. Paolo Bellosillo believes that Christmas is so much more than that.

Doc Pao believes that Christmas should be a time where we commemorate the greatest gift of God to mankind, the birth of our Lord. After all, this is the epitome of love and generosity that has been given to us by God to share to those who have less. This should remind us that instead of spending on ourselves for a feast and getting extravagant gifts, we should be sharing to our sisters and brothers who are less fortunate than us. Christmas should be about the real meaning and reason for giving, it should be about how Christmas completes you as a person and finding a sense of purpose.

A Christmas feast is something that need not be extravagant; being together as a family or with friends should be more important than what you actually have on the table. Temperance is key. We are what we eat and as much as we love to eat, we need to ensure everything is in moderation.

For the Filipino, Christmas is the best holiday during the year. It starts in September and ends in February. However, disasters have struck the Philippines for several years now during Christmas season and amidst the despair and death, this country has survived together and moved forward as one nation. Doc Pao wishes that instead of seeing these disasters as a tragedy, we should feel blessed that God allowed us to conquer storm surges, quakes, and sieges. It takes a lot to break a spirit but thankfully, the Filipino spirit is not easy to break. We are a loving race and we have heaps of charity, love, service, and humanity.

This Christmas, Doc Pao will be sharing his blessings by providing food for the hungry, water for the thirsty, and medicine for the sick. He also plans to visit the Lord and have a dialogue with him. Lastly, he will be with his family enjoying a family meal cooked healthily so he won’t need to to worry about having an attack and visiting an emergency room on Christmas eve. Sounds like a plan to me.

Marikina Date

It seems that I have a knack for meeting nice guys. I met one recently and he played guide when I visited a friend in need in Marikina. In the middle of it all, we managed to eat at one of the famous eateries in Marikina and ended up having coffee in Eastwood.

This place is called Pan de Amerikana. It's rustic, It is old fashioned and it gives you a forest like feel. There, that's how it felt eating inside that restaurant. It felt like I was in the middle of a forest.

There was a also a very big wall containing photos of celebrities from decades past and for someone like me who grew up watching Sampaguita pictures, this was a lovely sight. It felt really nice seeing the photos of the old stars, the true stars in my opinion. They just all look so dazzling and glamorous.

However, this place is actually more famous for their life size chess pieces.

There were only 2 of us but he was very supportive in my wanting to try almost all of the best selling dishes that they have.

This was the main thing he wanted me to try the most. Laing in Wheat Pandesal. It sounds yucky but it was actually REALL REALLY good. The combination between the laing and the pandesal was just perfect. I don't even know how to explain it but it was just right. You just gotta try it to understand for yourself.

Now this, BARRY's chicken was just crazy. I was intially thinking to myself that okay, this is fried chicken so what's the big deal about it? Why name it Barry? Why does this "sauce" matter so much. I took one bite and I understood.

It has been ages since I tasted fried chicken so juicy and tasty. This Barry, whoever he was, is definitely deserving of having a sauce and fried chicken named after him. It was just so good. Correction: IT WAS REALLY TASTY!

And this guy, he was my date. He is Mr. Nice Guy and as with all nice guys that I met, he gave me quite a night to remember with a really delicious meal and coffee afterwards. He was easy to talk to and funny. He was also very dedicated to his job.

We also tried out Costa Coffee which I have never been to. I didn't really like the coffee though. I felt it was too bitter and I got the Flat White. I don't know. I loved the interiors but I didn't like the coffee.

As I mentioned, I seem to have a knack for meeting nice guys but the nice guys that I meet, I normally meet them for only a season. This one is married to his job. So there .. I met a nice guy and as always, they are not interested in me.
