Ondoy and Habagat

I've never been one to write about what's going on in the country. Rarely do I write about these things as I want to keep politics or what have you from this blog since it is a personal blog. However, what happened yesterday to our country was so devastating that it kept me up the whole day obsessing over the news.

I live in the South. As everyone in the metro would know, we are way up high that flooding here seems almost impossible. It has happened once in my 7 year stay but it was more a fluke than due to a typhoon. Yesterday, there was no typhoon. It was just winds and rain. However, it was winds and rain that devastated our city.

I will not post depressing photos here. There are too many of it on the net already. I wrote this just to give praise to God for keeping my family safe during Ondoy when there were just 6 of us in the house, all female and no one could swim. I praise God for keeping us safe during yesterday's Habagat when everyone else was reeling from the effects of it.

We were safe, comfortable, and dry in our homes. We had internet access, no floods, and we had electricity. As much as we wanted to go out and help, we couldn't because there was no transportation and roads going out were flooded. To help, we used social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

We also prayed. We prayed for our country, for our people, and for Mother Nature. We prayed that the politicians will soon realize that instead of deepening their pockets and thinking of their interest, they start fixing roads, trash problems, population, and emergency plans.

We prayed for the Philippines. We prayed for our countrymen who has been devastated and who had homes damaged and loved ones lost.

This Saturday, FM and I were supposed to go out and do something fun. Instead, we plan to do something worthwhile. We plan to look for evacuation centers where we could help. In our own little way, we want to give back.

We have been blessed and in return, we want to bless others. It may not be a lot but if everyone would do their own little share, it would be a lot. To these people, a little goes a long way.

I am just so overwhelmed that we have weathered 2 devastating rainfalls and we have been spared. It's time to give back. If not now, when?

  4. Heroism is really at an all time high when it comes to calamity as the Filipinos are by nature helpful to those in need and at the same time resilient from difficulties.

  5. Giving back and helping others in need are very noble of you.
Difficult times surely make us stronger and knowing others suffer
more than what we do... somehow lighten up our burdens.

  15. We were not affected by the "typhoon" either... The least we could do is to pray for those who had been affected.

  19. Praise God indeed! I had my fair share of experience with the flood two weeks ago, one I intend to blog about but haven't yet. Instead of feeling defeated, I felt blessed despite getting hit by the flood. We counted our blessings because despite being flooded, we still had electricity and internet. In crisis like these people would say "Let us pray." and others would say "What could your prayers do?" or "If there is a God, why is He letting this happen to His so-called children?" I feel sorry for those people because they lack the faith and do not understand how powerful prayers are, and what God's role in this is. I, on the other hand, am quite grateful that I experienced it. I learned something and grew as a person. We are okay now, we've moved to a new house, we didn't lose anything or anyone.

  20. Hope those kind of storm or typhoon would be enough and not another Habagat will attack us again. Looks like the weather is getting good as for now.

Hi! Let's all try to add more positivity in this world and adhere to the saying, "if you don't have anything nice to say, keep silent."

Showering you with unicorn poop so you'd always stay magical! Heart heart!
