I recently went back to my hometown with FM. I was very excited about this trip because it was the first time that I was going to explore my own province. Yes, I was a tourist for 3 days in my own hometown. This is Day 1 of our trip to Cebu.
First stop, Sto. Nino Church and Magellan's Cross. Magellan's Cross is one of the most famous tourist spots in Cebu for inside the wood carving is the authentic and actual cross that Ferdinand Magellan stuck on the sand when he first set foot in the Philippines.
The candles you see below are the ones lighted by the dancing prayer ladies who would pray for your family or any wish that you may have. This is an old tradition that stems from the Spanish era where you pay someone a small fee to pray for your wishes or the soul of a departed love one.
As for the church, it is one of the oldest in Cebu and houses one of the most "miraculous" Sto Nino's in the country. The structure alone is worth taking photos of and the history, worth learning.
At night, we went to Larsian, a food market that sells only grilled food and pu-so. Pu-so is hanging rice and is covered in banana leaf. I ate Soriso which is one of Cebu's best delicacies.

Our first day was very relaxing. We did not go around that much but we sure had fun. We saw some sights and savored the food. For that, I bow to the queen city of the South, Cebu.
Wow...I didn't know Cebu is a hometown for you. Very nice post, Ate K. =)
ReplyDeleteI also didn't know that you were from Cebu Ate Kenny! But I'm glad you had fun! I hope I could get to visit Cebu soon :)
ReplyDeletetoo bad na there's no larsian anymore... :(
ReplyDeletegood to know you're from cebu too, ate kathy! see you around then. :)
huh? There is. I was just there last weekend.
DeleteI also like the food in Larsian. Actually, I like Cebu as a whole as it has nice beaches, great historical sites and a cosmopolitan atmosphere,
ReplyDeleteI hope I could visit Cebu, too.
ReplyDeleteHope you get to go to some beaches here and write about 'em ;)
ReplyDeleteI wonder where in Cebu where I saw a Cherry Blossom tree. It was a food market too serving grilled and pu-so as well.
ReplyDeletedon't Cherry Blossoms grow in Japan only? They need cold diba?
DeleteI love Cebu, have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI'm sooo excited to go back! ;)
ReplyDeleteWow! the 'puso' :-) It must be charming to tour one's own province. Cebu does look grand in youtube clips. I have visited only once.
ReplyDeleteOMG I miss Cebu already!
ReplyDeleteOh from where in Cebu are you Kathy? Your baby is so cute! Was that a jump shot that he made in front of the church?
ReplyDeleteYep, that was a failed jump shot. Hahaha. I'm from Alaska Mambaling.
DeleteI always wanted to go to Cebu but I never had a good chance to do so. Kaya pagpupunta ako sa Cebu, talagang lilibutin ko ito. :)
ReplyDeleteit's been 2 months now, i really missed the place! :(
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to go to Cebu since college because this place has a very rich culture. Just in case I'll make sure to drop by Larsian.
ReplyDeleteI love Cebu! It's actually where Ray and I got together. Hehehe. We should really save up to be able to go back and explore it some more. :)
ReplyDeleteYou really should! Wow ... nakakatuwa naman, got together in Cebu and proposal in Hongkong. Saan ang kasal? Sa Maldives? Haha
DeleteI've been to Cebu but we just toured it for probably 3 hours as we just waited for our plane ride back to Manila.
ReplyDeleteCebu is nice...but you know what...it has no sidewalks! hahaha. Everytime I go there, I have to walk on the street...nakakatakot ha! bicycles could sideswipe you.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to your hometown Cebu. Something has changed from your hometown since you left it?
ReplyDeleteI have always considered Cebu as my 2nd home.
