changing roles

" They say that people come and go
but the truth is no one
really disappears from your life.
People never really leave,
their roles just change."

This quote is something that I have kept on my phone for the longest time now. It rings so true of so many things. Friends who turned out to be not real friends, lovers into men you know nothing about, and even the occasional family member who made a 360 degree turn.

If you think about it, they never really disappeared. They still exist after all. They are still there. They are just not part of your life anymore and you don't have news about them because you no longer care enough to know things about them but they are there.

A great example would be my most recent ex. My world used to revolve around him. I knew every nuance happening to him. I knew almost everything. Now, if you ask me, I don't know shit about what's happening to him. I no longer care enough to want to know.

So its true; the roles just change. From being someone truly important, these people are now on the level of being trash or street decor. You know they are there, you just don't really "see" them anymore.

  1. I like that quote, it is so true. The roles of people i knew 20 or 30 years ago have changed, I know very little about them, but they are still a part of my life in a way.

  2. thanks for sharing this quote. i was enlightened and somehow answered a question i had about friendship.

    have a great week!

  3. @ kadri: I know right? they are still there, they are just not where they used to be, or where we want them to be

@ ibyang: it is ... it gives an answer to a lot of questions
